As I just posted in another thread, this is ridiculous.

No one knows what, if anything, will be announced.

Apple, and most other hardware companies, are on a 6 - 8 month hardware refresh cycle and have been for years. What's that mean? Within 6 - 8 months of you buying ANY technology, from ANY manufacturer, the manufacturer will announce the next version of the technology that will be better, faster and/or cheaper than what you bought. Deal with it.

Why people sit around fretting over this is mind boggling and the way they 'solve' this dilemma is by asking strangers on the Internet, as if they have special insight into What Apple will announce.🙄

If you need one now, buy one now.
 
mac mini

Well i couldn't wait Ive got my new mm i7 2.3 coming this week. also to add the apple keyboard/track pad and super drive.

It comes with a 1 tb drive inside however ill want to replace this with an ssd for the system to run etc, and have an external or fusion with all my other files on.
Am i better to have both drives inside rather than an external ? do they run well etc. I want the ssd to boot system not the 1tb drive.

I also see alot of people upgrading ram to 16 i just don't think ill personally need that much however id like to go at least 8gb.

Cant wait for my new toy.

I REALLY wouldn't count on this...that would be like half the life cycle of the last one.

The Mini also isn't a WWDC type announcement, it's generally more development or pro user related.
 
Took a chance & bought a 2009 Mini on eBay 2-3 months ago. Been doing the Hackintosh thing the last few years. (I’m retired & don’t have much $$ although I’ve owned ‘real’ Macs ages ago.) The 2009 came modded with 8G RAM & a 128G SSD. I upgraded OSX to 10.6.8 and it was wonderful! Fast boots and a joy to use. 🙂

Then a couple weeks ago it crashed. Hard. Would not boot, even via an external drive. 🙁 I didn’t have another Mac handy to try to troubleshoot (Terminal mode, etc.). My last Hackintosh had been getting flaky and I couldn’t even get that running. Sooo, here’s what I did: Installed Ubuntu on a minimal x86 motherboard so I could surf the web & stuff. I figured odds were that either RAM or the SSD had died on the Mini. RAM is cheap & so is a small spinning HD. Fired off an order to OWC (I tend to trust them).

The stuff came & I installed it in the 2009 following OWC videos. Wasn’t too hard and Bingo! It booted right up. Did a happy dance & was sooo glad to have OSX again. Fortunately I didn’t lose any data - had recent backups. Put the SSD I took out into an external drive and it was mostly readable (couple of corrupted spots). Reformatted it & tried it as an external booter (via FireWire). So far so good. I have lots of backup now, both away from the Mini and a cloned booter on the internal HD.

However, I still have only one running Mac. I’m tired of the Hackintosh scene. I’ve been doing research including lots of reading here at MacRumors & I’m excited by what I see. The last few years Macs have gotten really good! I’m pretty sure I’ll buy a new Mini soon (2012/13). At this point it seems a good idea to wait for WWDC & back-to-school sales.

(Follow-up to my last post.) WWDC keynote was pretty interesting. A lot to absorb & ponder. The internet Macways & blogosphere is busy tonight!

However, my present path is clear. No new Mini on the immediate horizon & I need one now. So, I fired off an order for a 2012 model today to B&H Photo (cheapest I could find). I’m already pretty well fixed for FW800 peripherals & I included a TB cable in my last OWC order. Will be watching for new TB peripherals/hubs/docks etc.
 
Just ordered mine!

I just placed my order. New mini with the 2.6 processor and a fusion drive with the government discount so I saved a few bucks.
In a separate purchase at my local military exchange I bought a new iPad along with a wireless keyboard, track pad and SuperDrive. All tax free, then I saved a bundle by signing up for their card (10% off first days' shopping). And it was all tax free!
I also placed an order to OWC for 16gb of memory!
It is going to be one fast little machine. I am going to use it as our htpc. It will be hooked up directly to our sweet tv!

These are first world problems for sure but I always hated using my laptop. Having to plug in the video to the tv (apple mini display port) and then the audio to the portable sound dock because the tv wouldn't do the audio while something was hooked to hdmi. Should be here soon. Super excited!
 
First time mac user here.

Installed my Mac mini this morning and its pretty good. Silent but does get quite hot. Is this normal for macs? Also; does anyone know if there are any app recommendation threads about?

Just ordered my second Mac.

Refurbished 2012 Mac mini 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8gb ram, 1TB fusion.

Should be a nice step up from my 2010 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo Mini.

I guess its my lucky day. My MacMini that was supposed to have 8GB of Ram, came with 16GB. WooHoo.

My order said: RFB MAC MINI 2.6QC/2X4GB/1TB-FUSION-USA

My system says: Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
 
I just bought my first Mac mini off Amazon (my other Mac is a 15" MBP which my gf took over). Already replaced the HDD with an SSD. So far I'm really liking it. Amazingly quiet. I plan to get the dual-drive OWC kit so I can put the HDD back in.

Loving i7

I'm loving this i7. I can rip and encode my Simpsons DVD's fast. A 22 minutes episode ripped and encoded to mp4, in 4 minutes using Handbrake.
 
My Mac Mini gets delivered tomorrow and I'm currently sat staring at my 16GB Ram for it, when I get it tomorrow should I just go straight ahead and open the Mini and put the 16GB Ram in or should I go through the setup for the Mac Mini first?

Or doesnt it matter?

Anyone been able to update Samsung firmware?

Installed win8 via boot amp to update Samsung firmware, by the way it is setup fusion, downloaded and launched the magician software it "scans for devices" for about 5 seconds, encounters a problem that triggers windows to search for a solution which it doesn't find and the only option is to close the magician.
 
I hope the new Minis come out before my return window is up. Just bought a Mini on July 5th and I'd rather return it to get a Haswell model.

Took advantage of the No Sales TAX Days in Florida and my Refurbished Mac Mini (base model) is on the way from the Apple Store.

I presently have my Dell Laptop connected to a BENQ HDMI Monitor, a Microsoft wired Keyboard and Logitec Wireless Mouse.

Hopefully the above acessories should work for a few months as I plan on buying a Apple Wireless Keyboard, Apple Router and mouse by the end of this year.

Good deal. I forgot the no tax here applied to computers under a certain price as well.
 
My certified refurbished Mac Mini i7 arrived this weekend and I am loving it! This replaces my early 2007 MBP which is still going strong, although the Mini is much faster and quieter 😀

In Florida the maximum amount per item could not exceed $750.00 and the Florida no State Tax Deal ends tonight.

The refurbished Mac Mini i7 had a price of 759.00 but the refurbished base model cost me $509.00. I also bought a Apple Wireless keyboard and a refurbished Airport Express Router.
