While I was looking in dismay at memory prices on EBay this morning, I stumbled across an Apple-refurbished M4 Mac Mini Pro 64GB/1TB, still in sealed box, for less money than I could get a 32GB 2666 SODIMM stick to amp up my spare 2018 MM 8,1.

That was a no-brainer. So, I’m now going to be a member of the really-mini community.

If you bought 1,000 shares of this a month ago, you could fund your RAM purchase. The memory companies are just making insane profits on it.

Understood, and thanks for that thought. There’s always that risk. I decided to throw caution to the winds here…

We shall see, and in the worst case I will reverse the charge on my card. Painful if it comes to that, of course, but you can’t make omelettes without breaking some eggs….

I’ll let you know if and when I take delivery of it, which is to say if it turns out to be a legitimate listing and not a scam. I would not voluntarily bring a scam listing to this group. Meanwhile, I’m getting ready to liquidate some of the vintage hardware, and especially memory, that I’ve accumulated over the years of upgrading and keeping my 5,1 alive. Apparently, elderly memory still has value. Who knew?

Incoming is a 2.53GHz A1283 Core 2 Duo to sit next to my 2012 i7. With these and a Trashcan, I may just get rid of my dedicated Windows boxes.

Just to close out the chapter on that hypothetical M4 sale above: the Ebay listing was indeed a scam. I have been able to recover my funds, the seller's account has been nuked for fraud, and all is well with the world once again. And the beat goes on.

I'm back. It's been a while. I have a shiny Mac Mini 16gb/512gb. Had to borrow my Steam Deck dock to plug in a mouse and keyboard 🙂 but its all good.

Ordered m4 16/512 on may 18 with delivery schedule between june 10 and 17. and now waiting for june 8. If m5 announced with the same price tag, i will cancel/return my m4 and re-order m5
