I just purchased a 16 inch Space Grey MacBook Pro M1 Max 10 Core CPU/32 Core GPU with 64GB and 1TB storage to use for my desktop replacement computer. I'm looking forward to how well this new to me laptop will perform as I begin putting it thru it's paces doing photo editing duties with my Samsung 4k 32 inch curved display connected to it.

The price I got this M1 Max laptop for was very hard to pass based on it’s configuration . . . a no brainer to pick up.

EDIT 1: my 16 inch MBP arrived this afternoon. Couldn't be happier with the purchase as this laptop looks brand new.

The laptop came with MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1 installed. I have since updated the OS to 15.7.2. I'm not sure if I want to upgrade to Tahoe just yet on this laptop.

EDIT 2: I have since done the software update to MacOS 26 Developer Beta 4 on this laptop and have not had any issues whatsoever since the update. This M1 Max laptop breezes thru any task I give it and is such a joy to use. Even though I no longer have Apple Care coverage on this laptop, my experiences in buying Macintosh Laptops via eBay have been positive and have been getting my used Macs from this source for years and have not experienced any issues. This laptop is in pristine condition with no blemishes or dents anywhere. It came with its original box and looks just as new as it was when it originally shipped. For me, money well spent :apple:

I was nearly going to get a New Sealed In Box M4 Pro 48gb / 512SSD 16” MacBook Pro from ipower until I noticed that it appears to not be eligible for AppleCare+.

It would have replaced my M2 Macbook Air 15”.

Anyone else purchased one of those and knows more?

Hi all...

Been a while since I posted anything - nothing really had changed at my end - I had a 11" Pro (2nd Gen) still have it and use it, had an iPad mini 6th Gen (exchanged it for my new folding phone) - but today, I picked up my MBP M4 Pro 14" 28GB RAM/512 HDD - with the nano textured screen, which I really really like! For the record, I did see the news about the M5 release, but that did not lead me in any way to consider either cancelling my order or returning the machine that I picked up - literally this afternoon!

This is my first MBP and first exposure to MacOS. I have paired this with a LG 34WR55QK-B curved monitor and its a very good and comfortable set-up.

As for MacOS, there are some hiccups in my use - but that is to be expected. Some of the things I am very unfamiliar with - for example, I am still wondering why all the windows manipulation controls are clustered on the left top right and why the "x" to close the window is not to the right top corner. But this is just a matter of getting used to a new system. Btw, I am coming to the MBP from a much cherished ThinkPad X1C6 but the 8GB of RAM and the 256SSD was not cutting it - it's 5 years old now so to be expected. It now will serve as my back up machine.

As for the MBP hardware - naturally, I got the Space Black, which I really liked. I am finding the KB on the MBP quite interesting as compared to the legendary KB of the ThinkPad, which has always been my benchmark. I do like the aspect ratio of the MBP - it is more to my preference. I do find the MBP to be a bit heavy but then again, the ThinkPad is comparatively lighter (but not by much) being an all plastic (albeit good plastic) build. The MBP seems more dense and that's a good thing in my books.

I am looking forward to working with the MBP - I don't think I will find it problematic to get comfortable. I think I understand - at least in theory - how the file system works so that's more than 1/2 the battle won.

One last point - In all honesty I should add that till recently I was in the no-Mac camp. I preferred Windows machines and specifically the ThinkPad line (which I still like) but it's time for me to experience something different. I have used Linux, Windows, and now it's time to use MacOS. I did come to the decision to buy the MBP via circuitous route - but that's for another post!

Cheers!

Added an M5 MacBook Pro in silver (matches my phone, watch, iPad, etc.) to the family today. My last MacBook, the 2020 i5, definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth, but I knew Apple Silicon would have solved all of my issues. If benchmarks are to be believed, this thing is more powerful than an M1 Max while only being 10 cores for CPU and GPU. I can't complain about that.

Just bought an M2 Pro 14” off eBay to upgrade from my M1 Pro. Not a huge upgrade, and still “only” 16GB RAM (not that I can ever tell), but it has an 8TB SSD and I got it for $1800 shipped! Should be able to sell mine for ~$600 or so and make some of that back.

Excited to fill it with 192KHz FLAC files from HDTracks 😄

A little nervous about the 16GB, tbh, but I’m happy to finally have my lossless library in Apple Music instead of Plexamp.

I just received my new 16" MacBook Pro M4 2TB 48GB. It is replacing a 16" M1 pro 16GB 1 TB. My old one could have gone on maybe. I shouldve bought it with more ram and more storage. I really was interested in the new M5 14" but the larger screen is a must for me for coding and music production. Anyway I know it isnt alot different from my old computer but it will be a long time use machine and is very nice. Merry Christmas to me!

I needed a somewhat newer and better-powered Intel Mac to use as my backup Apple computer and for any of my regular Intel Mac needs (like making Let's Play gaming videos with a Windows XP virtual machine)...

It's a 16" Space Gray Touch Bar MacBook Pro from 2019, with 2.6 GHz six-core i7 processor, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. I know it'll be the last Intel Mac to support the newest Mac OS versions, but for $300 it was a real deal thanks to my new I.T. job (I was going to use the $300 for a new Dell 4K monitor but it was out of stock before I could make the purchase). So far it's actually only slightly less powerful than my M1 MacBook Air (8-core graphics with 16 GB of RAM), not surprisingly, but when I drop off said Air to have the keyboard replaced again after the holidays, it'll make a pretty good secondary Mac to use for a few days!

Just ordered a M5 14" MBP 32/1T to replace my aging 2017 15" MBP Intel i7. I wanted to hold out until the redesigned OLED MBP (26/27) but my screen started to flicker and MacOS Office stopped upgrades. So, I thought it was time. I keep my Macs for 8+ years. So each new one is a major revelation. Looking forward to its arrival!

There's a pawn shop near me that runs an annual 50% sale on just about everything for Boxing Day only, so I walked in and impulse bought a 2022 13" M2 8/512GB MacBook Pro with Touchbar for $375 CAD (roughly $275 USD). After a good cleaning, it's in great shape and still delivering amazing battery life at 94% battery health. This is my first ever MacBook so I'm still figuring out the quirks of Mac OS, but I'm enjoying it so far.

I use laptops mostly for consumption + light productivity and do serious work on a desktop, so I don't expect the 8 GB of RAM to be an issue. Considering Chromebooks with Celerons and 4 GB of RAM go for about this much, I think I got more than my money's worth.

EDIT: Must have been a good deal. Best Buy, Staples, and the Apple Store all give trade-in estimates higher than what I paid.

Wow, that is quite the upgrade! What are your impressions on the hardware and software advancements?
biggest change for me was the security password stuff, takes getting used to that and the bugs in the OS, oh it is fast
