I just now cancelled my order. I was at the Apple Store yesterday and tried the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Currently using a 12. They are so heavy and the camera bumps are absurd. The design is just not great at this point. They’ve seriously lost the plot here.

Wish I could swallow Android but I hate Android. So here I sit, with a 12.

I did not expect the camera to be so weird with the normal 14 pro, and didn’t thing the weight would be drastically different either based on the specs.
I was wrong indeed, but i dig the upgrade. 120hz DI AOD are great additions. I would say the camera too, but that is a ********.

I haven’t yet, but I’m considering returning my 14 Pro. It’s a chunker. It’s not drastically heavier than the 13 Pro, but it feels noticeable in the hand and pocket. Part of me wants to jump back to the Max since you gain battery and screen for the heft, but the physical profile is a turnoff. (I think ~6.3” would be my sweet spot.)

I mostly like the dynamic island, the camera upgrade is cool and the screen seems to function a bit smoother than the 13 Pro. Battery life seems worse. Ironically, my screen on time has been lower and it’s still dying faster. Overall, I think I prefer the 13 Pro. Going to give it ‘til at least Friday before deciding. This may finally be my chance to jump off the annual upgrade train.

I’m tempted to return my 14 Pro as it’s just a bit underwhelming. Dynamic Island is nothing special, camera seems better in some situations and worse in others, while AOD doesn’t really bother me. I have a watch to give me urgent notifications.

I’ve also noticed that on quite a few websites the Dynamic Island means less of the page is displayed. Not a lot less, but if you put the 13 and 14 next to each other, showing the same page, the difference is clear. Not what I’d consider an upgrade.

I do quite like the new Space Black though and it’s good to have a shiny new toy. If I could easily get a Pro Max I’d give it a go as it would probably feel like more of a new experience. But I also know that I’d probably find it too big.

I suspect I’ll probably end up keeping it, but I’m not yet at the point where it feels like a phone I’ll definitely be keeping. Still feels like one I’ve borrowed from Apple and I might need to give back!

Good points.

I returned my 14 Pro for the same reasons as above. My 12 Pro felt no different in day to day usage so why upgrade when it still works perfectly well. Dynamic island is nothing special (just additional content around the existing notch), AOD… I leave my phone facing down most of the time. No improvement in cell phone connectivity (actually worst in my case). Will see what 15 Pro brings next year.

I understand the need for better cameras, but the bump is getting ridiculous. At least place them all horizontal across the top (rather than in one corner) so that it won’t wobble when touching the screen. I’m sure there will need to be a redesign at some point if they just get bigger.
I would love it if they were all in line vertically or horizontally.

I have this every year 😂. Usually it is just I bought the pro/pro max and should I have bought the pro max/pro instead?

I am enjoying my pro, I agree that the island is overrated and on the pro does take up more room than I would like but overall I really like the AOD which is a feature I have been wanting for ages and I like the purple way more than I thought I would, it’s really nice.

Is it easy to reactivate your previous phone from the 14 Pros, since its going from e-Sim back to physical Sim?

I don’t think the island is overrated… as the reviews both from tech reviewers and actual consumers alike seem mixed, I will say I believe it’ll become more useful and more and more developers code for its functionality. I personally am extremely excited for the live sports scores. If those work the way I believe they would, and as Apple has implied, it’ll be the single most thing I love about how the island works. I’m personally not huge on notification bars dropping down and zipping away, and a lot of my apps even have them turned off. The island updating live with the game I want to monitor would be huge for me.

That being said, I think people overestimate what it’s intended to be and got their hopes a little too high for something that just launched. We shall see if this goes the way of the Touch Bar, or actually evolves into something a lot of people enjoy as more devs utilize the space.

Some good reasons to return the phones here. The one I don’t get is the size of the camera bump(given that all phones will have some kind of bump); it doesn’t matter to me one way or another. What is it that people find objectionable about this years bump? (Honest curious question).

Especially people coming from a 13pro, or even the 12 pro. Not like those were exactly small either >_>

‘The 13 ProMax was one of the best selling phones, ever, for Apple so there are many who do not agree with you. The 14 ProMax is the same with a little bit larger camera area. I suspect it will also sell very well.

If you’re going back to a 13/12, you could just swap the e-sim over which is done very easy through the software when both phones are near each other.
I have a 11 Pro Max, but I have my new 14 Pro Max still sitting in its box. I'm worried if I transfer to the 14 Pro Max and decide to return, if it will be difficult to reactivate the 11 Pro Max.

It's the same design and the weight increased by a mere 5%.

Seriously some people have issues making a mountain out of a molehill
