I constantly change my phone and computers since I have what seems like a "disease" for wanting to try a new gadget out constantly. As such, resale value is pretty important to me so I put on an invisibleshield (or bestskinsever skin since they are like 1/2 price) on mostly all my electronics. I personally suck at putting them on so I make my GF do it and she's a pro at it by now ;). I get more $ back from reselling since there's nothing like selling a "used" gadget that looks like new.

I can assure you guys that the IS on the MBP doesn't look like a giant poo poo. It looks good, IMO. I'll take some pics later.

My only protection is a booq Vyper. It's perfect. If I'm out somewhere, I just unzip the Vyper and leave my 17" sitting inside.

My gf had a speck case on her white macbook and man oh man it scratched it worse than if it had no "protection." I took the thing off after a few months and there are scratches all over the macbook.

I'll never buy one of those crappy hard cases.

I smiled when i saw this thread, i've taken my speck case off about 50 times now since i got my pro a week or two ago. I love how much lighter it feels with it off but i dont want to get it scratched! I noticed a few tiny dots on the back hinges of the macbook where a small plastic point was sticking out of the speck and its scratched a really miniature hole there but it looks black. I'm really annoyed

This reminds me of a girl I used to see all the time in university.

She had some regular old Dell laptop or something. But the protective cover that comes on it from the factory, she left it on to protect the top of the lid.

Anyways, by the end of our university career, the cover was all white and peeled up on the corners to the point barely half the cover was still sticking to the lid...

To this day I wonder why she just never took that thing off.

I had an associate like this, they had an old Dell, and it still had half the protective cover on it, the other half was still there, just not sticking to the lid anymore. I finally convinced him to remove it. The part that was uncovered was worn just a little bit, but the part that was still protected was perfect. However, since they did not wear at the same time, it looked like he had hung part of it out his window while driving, and it had "road rash".

His feeble attempt to protect the laptop, ended up making it look even worse because any slight damage stuck out like a sore thumb on it.
