It was 7.5 months between the previous and the update before that, not six. Buyer's Guide includes all iMacs since 2003. Ignore older than 2006 iMacs as those are PPC. It has taken 11 months TWICE since Intel iMacs, and three times it has taken 7-8 months. So, 11 months is not extraordinary, it's completely normal. Whether this update takes 10 or 11 months, nobody knows. It does look like it's imminent but how imminent? Late August seems possible

Another report. Every time Apple instructs its retailers of a short-term shortage tells them to get rid of their stock, a refresh happened soon after. Lets hope the same thing happens here.

Your right, seems like longer due to the fact I bought at just about every refresh for my business. I buy the best for my workers at the firm but usually the base for my house usually. My wife hates the big screens. She is a accountant and controls all the money.I now have the 27 i5 right now, but will have to make due with a 21.5 during the refresh as the i5 is going back to the office. Women are crazy sometimes.

New size?

I see that a lot of people are hoping for a 24 inch model somewhere, but the thing is, what would the screen resolution be for that monitor?

Im pretty sure they aren't going to use 1920 by 1080 since that is already on the 21.5 inch model.

The thing is, I don't think apple is going to try to make a new screen resolution for a new screen, and making a 24 inch monitor 1080 would probably be steering away from how apple always try to keep the best DPI they can.

Dont really know about stuff like that, but it was just an observation.

Apple could use 2048x1152 as that 16:9 as well. I seriously doubt that Apple is going to come up with 24", 3 different sizes would be too much

My guess:

1. Refresh in Sept w/ i3 550 (base 21.5"), i5 (top 21.5" & base 27"), i7 (top 27"). Improved GPU.

2. Another refresh in Apr 2011 w/ Sandy Bridge & USB 3.

I didnt even know that resolution existed.

I guess you learn something new everyday. :p

And I agree that having 3 different size models seems like to much to keep up with in terms of new desktops.

Light Peak will be here before USB 3  What's Intel thinking?

They are thinking about LightPeak as it's their invention.

I was going to get the new iMac when the refresh happens in Aug/Sep, but now I'm wondering if I should wait until next year for Sandy Bridge??

Depends on what you do. Likely not because there is always something faster coming so unless you really need speed (professional), it's not worth it.

The current quad-core iMacs should be a huge step up from your G5 iMac. If you already had a Core iX-based iMac, it'd definitely be worth it to wait until Sandy Bridge, but in your case, I think you're safe to take the plunge now.

I am planning to do some gaming though I am by no means a hardcore gamer so should i wait for the refresh. Will the upgrade that is eminent from the 4000 series of video cards to the 5000s. I am a noob and have no idea how much of a change this will create when i game.

(planning to play cod mw2, bfbc2 through boot camp)

i'm waiting for the refresh as well. I've been chugging along on my G5 Quad but one of the pump is failing and I'm experiencing thermal runaway issues. For how much it's going to cost to get a new pump, i can buy an iMac...

I don't even care about USB 3.0 right now. I just wish apple would add an esata port (probably unlikely) and update the GPU to maybe a 5850 for the top of line iMac. A 5870 is very unlikely. I also wish for a matte screen but that'll never happen. Looking forward to the update soon :D

The performance difference between the Mobility HD 4850 and the 5850 really isn't that significant (check out the links); in fact, NotebookCheck.net seems to tier the HD 4850 a little higher.

I can't wait for the refresh.

If 21,5" model gest updated, and gets an good i5 and a good graphics card, I will get one, plus the iPod and printer with the promos. I also will get an Time Capsule.

Come on Apple!

The doubt is : update this tuesday or not?

We want a good GPU in the 21,5" to play future Steam games and diablo 3 !!

ATI 5750 or higher please please please

An 5770 would be great.

i5 (even dual core), 4 GB DDR3 and an ATI 5770 will make a great machine.

But I really doubt that it will get 5770. :(

How much time usually goes since tue news of low stock that we had the other day, until the update?

Can we get it on Tuesday?

The Macbook Pro started running low on stock 2 weeks before the update. Then, when it really became bad, when almost every shop where empty, the update came. So, we can expect it from this Tuesday, to around 2-3 weeks IMO.

...strongly considering the 27" i7 top-end after the upcoming (eventual) refresh.

Was very close to buying the current 27" i7 but since I could wait, I opted to delay until the next revision.

I won't upgrade my i7 until I can get 6 or 8 cores in a new one. If I did not already own one I would hold out until the refresh.

I guess I will also be waiting.
I have decided to become a Mac user for the first time.
I was going to get the iMac 27" quad core... but I guess I can wait a little longer.
But dang... I want it now!

Guys, my local apple seller, didnt have anymore imacs when i checked yesterday. Also they didnt know when they would have new ones in.

Secondly, the country's biggest computer seller, didnt have more imacs, and they also had sale on the models that were left.

I think the update is imminent
