That's what is confusing me, they shouldn't have released a 4 then. This is my personal ranting... I understand their move and all, but they should have just called the Mini to be released and that's all. They should have kept iPad 3 over introducing iPad 4.

Why? You want them to allow Samsung to surpass Apple for having the best tablet on the market?

4th gen is twice as fast as 3rd gen. If it's ready, release it. No sense in holding technology back for no reason.

samsung/google are about to announce the nexus 10 tablet with exynos 5 cpu. It outperforms the A6 in the iphone 5 and leaves the ipad 3 A5x in the dust completely.

apple needed to step up the ipad in the face of such competition otherwise ipad 3 would be fighting against a tablet with double the power at the same price

3rd gen already had 1GB so the answer is yes.

I really think the iPad 4 really just got lost in the news of all the other new products. It's really a 3S, which in the phone world is no small thing when it's the only news that quarter. Never as big as when they make it look different, but this is no small update; the processor, camera and new charger will all make noticeable differences.

Thanks for the information on the memory. I'd looked around and couldn't confirm the memory. Didn't think about looking at the iPad 3 since the scores are similar to the ipad 2.

The iPad 3 is the one that shouldn't have been released.
They should have held back on it like they did the iMacs.

Unfortunately it runs android so in practice it will probably be slower and more laggy than the a6x.

You're not keeping up with the latest Android developments. Jelly Bean is super smooth, and Key Lime Pie builds on that. The Nexus 10 with higher rez and more memory is gong to give the iPad quite a scare....

Good effort, but I have a nexus 7 running and it still lags and stutters more than my iPad and especially my iPhone 5.

And android in the tablet space needs to get its apps in order before it could ever give the iPad a "scare"

I also have a Nexus 7 and I wouldn't call it laggy. My iPad stutters and crashes once in a while, I don't hold it against it.

The app situation is a different discussion. Hardware and OSwise, Android is caught up with Apple.

Apple wanted to stop making the 30 pin docks and connectors so they decided to upgrade to the lightning connector and they said lets through in something else into it to make it exciting.. Lets add the A6 and call it ipad 4. The next generation ipad will clearly be the the grown up ipad mini, same design will add colors like the ipod. Ipad mini will get the A6 and retina display. Everything became so obvious with apple.

This confusing update is perfect for all offical 3rd party resellers here in Belgium. An average consumer will be sold a 3rd at the same price of a 4th gen.

We don't have an official Apple store here.

Unfortunately this will probably be the case in a lot of places.
