I've had my iPad 2 since launch and have since ditched my laptop and only use my Windows tower for hosting/backing up media on my home network.

The usage of my game consoles, TV, BluRay player, and Roku boxes have all decreased drastically. The piles of past issues of magazine are gone from my house--they are all on my iPad. Train schedules? On my iPad. The letter to Santa I typed up for my son? On my iPad. And yes, I used the screen, not a keyboard. And when I wanted to show everyone at work how cute it was, the letter was up in iCloud without me having to do anything. Didn't even have to reach into my bag and get the iPad. My wife's grandma's 80th birthday slide show? Done very easily (while riding the train to and from work at that!) on my iPad. I have cancelled BluRays in Netflix (since we rarely watched them) and whenever we want a brand new release in HD, I rent it on my iPad and hook it up to my HDTV. Works beautifully.

My point is, I have little use for a computer anymore. No, I'm not a power business user or a professional writer. But most people aren't. For the every day stuff, the iPad certainly can replace a computer and it IS most certainly a content creation device.

Since you buy movies on the ipad via itunes to watch on your tv , yiu should consider an apple tv for your movie purposes , plus you get wireless mirroring to the apple tv

i don't have a hate on for tablets by any means, but its sorta telling that there's such a strong need to "justify" them. its another option and options are good, but listing off reasons like "finally you can easily read the news on your commute" is just going to recycle debates whether its any better than a smartphone. where i am transit is cramped with people, and a smaller device is more practical for me. if you want one just get one, as for me i'm gonna cross my fingers and hope for a 4" iPhone someday :p

Everyone wants to think they made a smart purchase. When i got my ipad it took me while to actually feel like i had some use for it. Now a year later i am on my second Ipad and absolutely couldn't be without one.

I don't mean to stink up this thread with a rant but here goes. I think that the ipad is a great, well made, and fun gadget, but it is by no means a productivity machine. We will never be able to replace computers with it, it will just be a companion to computers. With that said, I don't really see why it only comes at 10 inches. It should really come in a variety of sizes so people can have the screen real estate they want, similar to computers. Also, there really needs to be a 7 incher. For those of us who can use the 11" mba as a primary productivity machine, we want a toy that bridges the gap between the mba and the 3.5" iphone (11" mba and 10" ipad overlap too much.) For those of us who use a macbook pro 13" or higher, that bridge is already provided by the 10" ipad. End rant.

I have placed many stock trades on my ipad and made some decent coin doing so. I think that qualifies as productive!

Today, my case arrived, and went to the Regent Street Store.
After walking around aimlessly for a half hour thinking 'Am i going to go for it?'
I did, i walked out with an iPad 2 16GB Wi-Fi and I'm waiting for iOS5 to download and install :)
Right now, loving it, loving the case, can't wait to use it in lectures and to actually have space as well!
I'll add to this for my impressions, or on my blog :)
