They shouldn't have forced the un-removable download on them.

That may be true, but in any case it shouldn't be ignored that the iPhone 4 runs the latest iOS and is just as capable as modern flagship phones from Apple and other companies. iPhone 4 competitors from around that time (HTC Desire, Samung Galaxy S) have been dead and buried with their Android 2.3 Gingerbread for a long time now. Even high-end phones released a year after the iPhone 4 are completely irrelevant nowadays.

sorry what does this exactly mean. "just as capable as ..."

lets leave the appearance of the ios out of the debate but what advancements does ios7 bring to iphone4? and then when you factor in that its a slower ios is that worth it?

Nail on head. If you're a fashion victim and simply HAVE to have the latest (and definitely not greatest) o/s running on your phone, even if it absolutely slays the performance...if it somehow makes you feel that you're keeping up with the latest tech, then by all means make iOS7 available for the iPhone4.
However, for goodness sake allow people to revert back to iOS6 when the vast majority of them feel that their phone has become a frustrating to use, severely slow brick.

It doesn't even bring any advancements to my iPhone 5. Wow, Airdrop, something I'll never use. Wow, control centre, a gimmick. I have had to switch off ALL the new iOS7 features along with a raft of old iOS6 features just in order to manage a day's battery life from my phone. Now I understand that some people have apparently perfect battery life with iOS7 but neither me nor my friends are part of this lucky group, so my position is built on experience and not what I've read on the internet.

btw airdrop does not work on iphone 4.

My comments in relation to the i5 were in context to the discussion, anyone with some sense can see that. I was responding to a previous poster who said that iOS7 doesn't really bring anything (positive) to the i4 and I expanded on that by saying that in my opinion it doesn't bring anything positive to the i5 either. This should help show how little it brings to the i4, which does not even have airdrop/SIRI/transparent dock/parallax etc.
The 'fresh new look aside' MOST people have got a raw deal out of iOS7. If you can live without the new aesthetics, then you can certainly live without the new performance.

You can do everything you can on an iPhone 5S that you can on a 4 (ignoring functionality achieved by hardware the 4 doesn't have).

ok now i understand your point although i wouldnt have made it because of the obvious hardware differences which is sometimes just an arbitrary excuse.

although i for one dont get why you cant make a facetime audio call from an iphone 4 but have been able to make such calls with skype and viber since the original iphone.

but nevertheless i obviously misunderstood your post and apologize

How can you ignoring all functionality achieved by hardware the 4 doesn't have and then call it just as capable as iPhone 5S?

If you just doing phone call and messaging, yeah, you can say something like that. But if you ever trying to browsing web or opening multiple apps at same time, no, you can't say that.

I think the ops point is at least apple keeps supporting older devices like the iPhone 4 which is 4 years old

Which is fine, but the older Android operating systems are still far more advanced than the latest IOS 7. Apple is still playing catch up to Android.

For the record, I have an Nexus running 4.2, Nexus 7 running 4.4 Kit Kat and an iPod Touch 5 running IOS 7.1......Android beats IOS hands down.

I don't for the life of me understand why people are so desperate to get the 'fresh new look' of iOS7 when it comes with SO many negatives. Hell, it comes with negatives for iPhone5 users, let alone those who own a handset two generations behind that. Perhaps I'm odd in that I value battery life way and above visual gimmicks, or perhaps it's because I'm over 40. Maybe the younger users don't want to be lumbered with an unfashionable and uncool operating system.

Not the biggest fan of IOS 7, I have gotten used to it. The one area of improvement that makes it hard for me to ever want to go back is the new main swipe main function screen. The other stuff has been on android for years.

This is sorta not something to brag about. Yes, it has the latest software, but iPhone 4 was almost unbearable with iOS 6 (I sold it for a 4S), so I couldn't imagine how bad it is with iOS 7.

Maybe on-par with how crappy iOS 4 was with the 3G (which I sold for the 4).

The fact is, people are FORCED to use the latest OS, even when they know it'll cripple their phone.

I'd say Apple was purposely trying to cripple its devices, but the 3GS was solid, even with iOS 6.

talking to anyone and everyone crying and whining about their iPhone 4 being slow. It's like complaining that their car with 250k miles is falling apart. It's an old phone, and Apple's getting ripped for 7 not working that well on it.

People need perspective. It's an ancient phone by today's standards.

You didn't answer someone's question, only complained about iphone 4. Everyone on here is looking for answers and many complain about the latest iphone.

My iphone 4 works fine with 7.1 and I don't even know why I bother telling you.

You need to sit in the corner and talk to yourself.

if apple had not sold the iphone 4 in 2013 or had allowed a way to totally refuse updating to ios 7 on the device, there wouldnt be complaints

im not saying apple made bad moves or is mistreating its customers, not at all. but i do think that by selling the iphone 4 as new until last year, that raises expectations quite a bit, especially when it comes to effectively 'mandatory' updates
