Here's my issue with the idea of a 8MP camera in an iPhone. Everyone is going to think that means it's just as good as an 8MP P&S. This is not really true, a dedicated device will always produce a better quality picture. For example a P&S camera generally will have Optical zoom (much better than digital zoom available on the iPhone and other phones), aperture control, fStop control (depending on the camera), iso control, the list goes on and on. Last I have checked, the iPhone doesn't do much, if any of these, especially out of the box and if an App offers it, it does it all digitally not using the hardware that a P&S camera will have.

While this is true, the simple fact that a fairly high quality camera will be in the iPhone from now on (and thus make its way to competition soon) will destroy the sub-$150 P&S market since those cameras aren't usually much better than what the new phone can do. The dedicated device is going to have to be substantially better to keep up in sales.

Hopefully this wasn't already mentioned (I skimmed through most posts here, but I probably missed a few), but I saw posted as a comment elsewhere this link, where a different developer said that the 4S does indeed have 1GB of RAM:

"I think parity with the CPU/GPU of the iPad 2 is great for those of us working with these top-end devices," says Simon Barratt of Bradford-based Four Door Lemon, which has just released its latest iOS title, Tic Toc Body Pop. "I wasn't expecting the RAM to be increased to 1GB, versus the iPad 2 with 512MB, so that was a welcome surprise and should allow for more working memory to be available to developers. As with iPad 2, having the extra core allows us to either make specific content that targets multiple cores only, or it lets us add extra effects or polish for 4S owners. Developers could also provide a solid FPS boost by offloading work to one core."

The fact that he mentions that the RAM increase was a surprise is interesting...

Geekbench confirms 512MB https://www.macrumors.com/2011/10/11/iphone-4s-geekbench-benchmarks-68-faster-than-iphone-4/

Perhaps a friendly German 4S owner can post results of one of the hardware profile programs.

Did geekbench get it right when the 4 came out with 521MB of ram?

I don't recall seeing geekbench for the iphone 4, but I remember all benchmarks pegged it at 512MB. That's why I'd like to see some of these supposed Germans who already have 4S post some benches/stats from the available programs out there.

Cool, I honestly didn't remember either. The one application I had going from 3GS to 4 was SysStatsMon and I don't think it showed how much RAM the 4 had correctly.

Siri runs on an AI chip, Its built into the 4S, thats why its not included in iOS 5 GM and thats why it wont be on iPad 2 or iPhone 4. Sorry. Its completely independent of the RAM.

To me, my opinion here, Siri seems to run as a hierarchy of the kernel/iOS and have ability to share data between applications (itself + one other), So when you search for a contact (Siri+Contacts), then ask for directions to that contact (Siri+Maps+Contacts data temporarily) its working well within its contracts.

However I think languages and the way of thinking from different languages could extend the memory confinements ... "Use Mom's address to search for nearby hospitals, email the list to my sister - tell her congratulations - while phoning for a cab to pickup my sister (use her saved address), and join me into the call." (that's just a simplistic conceptual idea of Siri+Contacts x2+Maps+Google Search/Safari+Phone app+Mail). Yes I'm sure Siri cannot do something like this so complex ... YET! But I believe that with a A6 chip - whatever the name and a concept

You work for Apple or something? There is nothing good for the costumer.

Hey wankey, I'm new to here and I can't really figure out how to private message, even if it is possible. I don't want to ruin the thread, but I was hoping you could email me at kalmahswamp@yahoo.com or I was hoping someone could tell me how to send a private message if possible.

THANKS
