No assumptions made. You started a thread stating that you don't have enough money for a iPhone 6 and asked if it's a good deal to get an iPhone 5 for free.

I know if I didn't have $400 in my checking account I'd probably consider taking a free iPhone 5. Call me crazy

The iPhone here is 1000 of offcontract. I have 620 dollars and the holiday job may not get me all I need.

That doesn't invalidate the point that if buying a 6 will be a financial burden then accepting a free 5 seems like a sensible thing to do. It's by no means a bad phone.

Nice assumptions made. I'm 16, saving up for a phone because I can, my parents are more than capable to purchase it for me, I don't like to be a burden especially since I got a rMBP for my birthday.

My parents are very successful. Please don't make assumptions.

Ummm because when I get a phone I keep it for two years. I just do. I don't keep contracts so I may get an upgrade from the 5. I don't know.

lol

Oh wow I didn't know that. Doing a conversion it's $817 US. That's even more ridiculous than I thought. I make a good enough living in IT with savings and no debt and I wouldn't even pay that when I could get a 5 for free. Call me crazy...

I already have a 2 year old upgrade. It won't be an upgrade over my current phone.

The iPhone 5 is more than good enough for most tasks you'll do as long as it's not graphics-intensive. It will probably continue to get iOS support for the next few years. I'd say the 4s is on the way out of support, though.

If you're happy with the 5 I don't see why anybody would upgrade to the 6.

The 5 is a great phone, but depends on your priorities. Phone is my lowest priority and I bought it outright, so I won't replace it until I have to. For power-users on a contract it is different.

Take the free iPhone 5 and save your money. The iPhone 5 is a good phone that still runs great. It's fast, thin, light, takes great pictures and uses LTE. You'll be happy you waited when the iPhone 6S comes out!

The offer was taken back because he wants to give the 5 to my Aunt. I'll sell my iPod and save as much as I can then get dad to fill in any difference remaining. Thanks for your advice everyone.

No, The iPhone 5 is nothing more than an iPhone 4s with 3 new features. 5s is the lowest you should go.

Honestly, the 5 is probably the best phone I used. In the beginning battery life was REALLY bad and after the latest iOS update, it's just decent/mediocre but not bad. I upgraded from a 4 and it was night and day.

I got my 5 on Day 1 and it still works perfectly, no battery defects(according to Apples IMEI check) and all the button still works fine. I'll probably keep the 5, I have no problems with it, perfect phone.

If I manage to save up enough money I'll buy an iPhone 6+ but if for some reason I can't, my dad has offered to give me his iPhone 5 for free. Is that a good deal?

Yeah, man. It's a good phone. Take the free one and thank your dad. Save your money so you can get the 6S or 7. You could always get a new battery put in it to get a nice fresh one.
