from best to worst in my opinion:

4/4S > 5/5S > original 2G > 6/6+ > 5C > 3G/3GS

The plastic backs just don't do it for me, and the massive bulge of the 3G combined with the fake chrome rim around the front...ugh. The shape, size, and design of the 4S was the best so far, though it was the most fragile with the double glass.

Agreed, but I would add this: keep the 3G in context. Remember what the competition looked like back then? :p

I don't like the antenna bands & I wish the space grey was darker.

I didn't upgrade to the 5 series because I didn't like the look & how easily they scratched.

I had to upgrade this time but I'm gonna put a case on my 6+ to hide it cuz I don't like the back. I'm gonna miss rolling neekid with my 4s. I loved that device. :( it felt great, it looks sharp. The back is black, no protruding camera! For me, it was the best of the line looks wise.

They all look pretty sexified to me

I think they all look good, but yes, I'd prefer a darker space gray, or even more so, the slate color from the iPhone 5. But I still haven't see. A better looking smartphone, outside of another iPhone.

I actually think they look pretty good. :) I was iffy at first but they've grown on me.

I think the gold actually has the poorest look out of the new ones, now, whereas I got the gold last year. The silver and black look pretty good.

I love it! Which is why I stayed up ALL night last Friday to get my order in early.

They are all fine except the gold one. The gold and white lines dont go that well.

I agree! Gold and white looked better on the 5S model. I wonder if a gold phone with black lines would look better? OR a completely gold phone...

iPhone 2G - 9/10
iPhone 3G/3Gs - 8/10
iPhone 4/4s - 9/10
iPhone 5 - 8.5/10
iPhone 5c - 6.5/10
iPhone 5s - 9/10
iPhone 6/6 Plus - 6.5/10

Yeah, it might be the worst design iPhone ever especially the rear along with the 5c. The front looks good enough as a blown up 5s but still unoriginal. Based on ergonomics though, the 6/6 Plus should be pretty good with the rounded sides.

It isn't like Apple has made every design great. I only like four of their iPhone designs (2G, 4/4s, 5, and 5s). The Apple Watch isn't a stunner either. Even past choices of the iPod nano or classic were not always great. I think HTC has better and more varied designs than Apple when it comes to smartphones, but even HTC can give us a clunker from time to time.

Apple is known for great design, but NOT always. This year might fall into that NOT always. By 2016, people will start saying the iPhone 6/6+ design is hideous. Most are apologetic now because it is new and want to be in denial to enjoy the thing. I think Jony Ive is starting to lose his touch on aesthetics beginning with iOS7.

But performance might start being more important to iOS users. Millions and millions bought the Samsung Galaxy S4 last year, didn't they? Forget art museum, people just use their phones as a tool. Not as a precious jewel. Looks fade. Performance lasts. I much rather have a better, faster, and stable performer than something that is just prettier but inferior or slower doing most things. .

I like the bands better than the solid bars.

I agree. I think that the antenna bands are much more subtle than the big bands. I have a gold 5S and have ordered a 128GB Gold 6 Plus. I think the white bands on the gold matches the white front of the phone way better than the silver one. I never liked the squared off edges of the last iPhones. I found the curved edges of older models much more comfortable to hold, so I am happy Apple returned to that design. I think the gold is classy and I got a clear case to show it off. It seems that every color has its fans, so I hope everyone was able to get the one that they like best. I am thrilled that mine is coming on Friday.

i'm not super excited about the back with the plastic/metal divisions, however, what I like about the back is the curved edges like the 5c, 2G and 3G(S) phones. But the sides and front of it is teh secks...:D:apple:

The 4S is so gorgeous that I'd rather risk destroying mine than cover it with a case, but I'm already picking out something for the 6 to wear. Still looks better than the 5/5S though.

I remember some of the hypocrisy when people scoffed at the Galaxy Note. Some didn't want that humongous plastic slab ever. Now GNote 4 has a metal frame while the iPhone 6/6 Plus got bigger but not any better looking. So iPhone is still beautiful to many because it is from Apple which makes everything beautiful while GNote 4 is not?

Watch that Nokia 920 (2012) commercial between Apple & Samsung fanatics fighting during a wedding. There is an iPhone user that goes, "Excuses me. Would it be ok to put down your enormous phone?" That now applies to iPhone 6 Plus owners.

Apple no longer have the best designed smartphone. They lost that title last year to HTC One. And I would go far to say HTC One M8, OnePlus One, LG G3, and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 all look better than iPhone 6/6 Plus. Look up Gionee Elife S5.5, Meizu MX4, Huawei Ascend P6 or P7, and a red or gold Asus Zenfone 5. Those might be better looking than iPhone 6. Apple may not even be ranked Top 5! It only looks better because the North American market is not as competitive as the Asian market where there are so many brands to choose from. In US, maybe they are limited to 6-7 different OEM's with Apple & Samsung being the top dogs and too much carrier control. Asia's market can go up as high as 25 different brands. The competition in design is weaker out wesr because it has lesser faces.

The protruding camera is the only thing that bothers me. It's very un-Apple like. They usually are design perfectionists and this seems like a cop out in a sense. I think I would prefer a slightly thicker device if it retained the same "flushness" as the 5/5S.

lol at the poll results.

Are you seriously complaining about what looks like a 1mm ring protruding around the lens?

Where's the "it's okay" option? It's not an offensive design. I don't love it, but it looks pretty good. It gets the job done.

I love the industrial design of the iPhone 4/5 but in actual use I hate them. The edges are so cutting and uncomfortable.

That's why I laugh at all these people worrying about one handed use on the 6 (and 6+). Sure it's bigger but the slimness and rounded corners will make it infinitely more comfortable to hold. And things like ergonomics and visibility are infinitely more valuable to me than "how pretty it is".

I agree 100 percent with all of this.

The complaint is less about how to looks as to "why " they did it.

Even the smallest increases to battery size results in more battery life. So, on a device notorious for "not good" battery life then it doesn't make sense as to why not just make not thick enough to be flush and put in a bigger battery.

Like them all, shame about the bands.

No sure there's a need for silver AND space grey. Could have just done a shade in-between those two and had a full on black instead.
