Never really understand the fascination with watching a full HD movie on a 5.5 inch phone

Guess I'm just weird and would rather do so on a big screen TV...

True story:

I was at Target recently and walked past their phone display and was disappointed to see that they had put out a mockup phone next to the 5s and 5c instead of a real iPhone 6.

I touched it and the screen moved. The screen is so good I thought that it was printed on.

A similar thing happened to me at Costco. I saw a 6 Plus on display and thought the screen was just a sticker. Then I touched it and it turns out it was real; and this is coming from someone who already had a 6 Plus!

Don't downplay the significance of this upgrade. It's not just bigger; it's also got a higher pixel count, higher pixel density, and higher contrast ratio. DisplayMate has officially dubbed the 6 Plus display the best LCD in a smartphone they've ever seen. And I'll take the superior colour reproduction of the 6 Plus' display over the over-saturated Super AMOLED Samsung uses anyday. AMOLED may look better for video games and action films, but LCD is the superior choice for regular use and photography.

Anandtech reached the same conclusion. They ran quite a few display quality tests on both the 6 and 6+, and performance was superb in almost every category. Apple didn't win all the tests, but they were fairly consistently near the top:

Honestly, the screen stands out for good reasons. It looks amazing...seeing it in person for the first time, the text is so crisp, that the screen looks fake.

I believe you. The screen is so good that it looks fake and you would have to double take. Happened to me the other day at the Apple Store. I was really impressed.

Anyone detecting uneven brightness

I generally like the screen but like most retina displays I have seen across all devices, this one seems to suffer from uneven light distribution. I see a slightly dimmer upper right corner on mine that I have seen others complain about too on this forum. Anyone seeing this? Evident to me in lighter screens like the web browser and message/email. Brighter on the bottom generally than the top and a more noticeable light fall off in the upper right.

My cousin and my friend got a 6 I was able to mess around with and the screen was amazing. I still need to get my hands on a 6 plus and check that out and I may upgrade.

Just needed to say it, for those who have it know! It really is awesome! HD movies look incredible, really made a brief road trip for a sad situation a little more enjoyable this weekend.

Wow, did we really need a new thread for this? Can mods move this to one of the dozens of others?

If you check it out....its not you "may" upgrade its you "will" upgrade.

I agree with this phone being awesome. What's interesting is that the 6 actually has a higher contrast ratio than the 6+ but the 6+ seems to get the nod in the display comparisons due to its higher resolution.

Big screen TVs are a little hard to bring with you, I've found. A phone may not be optimal for watching movies, but this phone is way better than past ones have been. I used to watch movies on the iPod with video (although only while traveling or whatever). Now that was a sub-par experience.

I would not call it amazing since ive seen a better screen on the g3 at bestbuy. Its definitely a improvement on the 5s screen.

Having actually owned the G3, I disagree completely. The G3's display is much dimmer, not nearly as accurate, has worse black levels, worse off-angle colors and contrast, and all the while consumes more power. Also, LG runs this awful sharpening filter that makes text look terrible.

Despite being QHD, the display is one of the G3's greatest weaknesses.

The only display I'd take over the 6 Plus is the AMOLED in the Note 4.

Never owned a g3 but examined one in the store and the screen was clearer and sharper than my 6+.

Whether i6 screen looks amazing to you or not, depends on whether you've seen Note 4 or not. If you did, iphone screen in comparison looks more like a screen of the first color laptops from the early 90's. ;)
