The feel of it, so light and thin, it's like you are holding a piece of slate/hardened glass almost. You have to experience it yourself, get yourself over to the Apple store and then report back.
It's so, so nice. It's even better than I was expecting and feels amazing in the hand.

I did own the iPhone 6 and 6S which were a very similar thickness to the Air, albeit not having the thicker camera bump, so I am no stranger to thin iPhones lol. I will handle it at some point, preferably not in an Apple store as I try to avoid those as much as I can. They will be in the supermarkets over the next few days. I don't know as though I am the type of person who can promote 'thinness' over features though in my own mind, so I doubt we will have the same experience. Enjoy your new iPhone though, my wife's 17 Pro is arriving between 2pm and 3pm, so I will at least get a play with that.

Here is a thought experiment. Imagine the iPhone Air launched as a luxury device at $1,299 instead of $999. At its current price, the Air falls into an uncomfortable space, priced above the standard iPhone but below the entry-level Pro. The problem is that it clearly lacks the Pro’s important features, including the full camera system and the larger battery, which makes it feel like a compromise. Even though it is built with premium materials and designed to be thinner and lighter, its placement so close to the Pro highlights what is missing rather than what makes it special.

By setting the price at $1,299, Apple could have reframed the Air as a true luxury alternative rather than a stripped down Pro. The phone is not meant for spec chasers but for those who value design, portability, and materials. A higher price would have strengthened that identity and helped the Air stand apart as an elite option. That kind of positioning often shapes perception more than specs, and it might have made the Air feel aspirational instead of compromised.

Dunning–Kruger effect on display right here folks!

$999 is already overpriced for what it is. Just give it a few days in the wild, then the battery life/overheating complaints will start.
You tell them man! How dare people come to Macrumors and actually like or enjoy a new apple product. It’s terrible! This forum is for hating apple products…duh! These airs are clearly going to spontaneously combust in your hand!

Air is in a totally different level to the feel of 6 and 6s. Nothing Apple has ever released comes close to the feel of the Air.

It is an iPhone that looks the same from the front. Once a case is on the phone, its just another iPhone still. If I handle an Air and don't get this magical awakening, I will be very disappointed with you lol.

It’s the weirdest thing! I’m glad I wasn’t the only person to notice that. I can’t figure it out.

I’d prolly get the Air if I couldn’t get a Pro Max for cheaper (with trade-in and bill credits).
In a sense, that is a true value indicator. You can get all on us deals on regular and pro iPhones any day with bill credits but not for Pro Max and add Air to that list. So buying outright you get more value from apple - because otherwise you are better off with free Pro.

You couldn't read this on a non-American forum.

The Air, from what I can see, is a scam at 999, and this thread is about how AAPL could have scammed customers even better.

im sure they thought about it.

they could easily put a new camera sensor in it but then it would contradict the pro series.

the idea of the air is to cannibalize sales of base iPhone, not the pro

I imagine the second sensor is being saved for the next iteration, if the phone sells well enough to continue in the line-up.
