Some things I don't understand. Why do so many people feel the need to buy the new Iphone every year or every two years.

I treat my Iphone 3G as a longterm device I'll be using for the next four years.

Why? It has everything I need and use:

Push Email
Web Browser with 3G speeds which is PLENTY fast
Phone
Calendar
Good Enough Camera
Music
Facebook & Twitter

This is all I use on my Iphone. I don't even have but a few apps.

How does it make sense to get the new one every time a new one comes out??? For what????

this could very-well be the dumbest post i've ever seen on these forums. you people manage to one-up yourselves all the time, to my astonishment.

-why do people buy new clothes when their old clothes aren't destroyed?
-why do people buy new cars when their old ones still run?
-why do people buy computers, TVs, iPods, stereos, when their old ones still work?

holy crap man....

I rarely keep any electronic device more than about 2 years. I upgrade not because I have to, but because I want to, and I can afford it.

of course its a marketing scam and you are falling for it by starting this topic :) thank you, we 0wn you now.

I didn't buy the original iphone bc it didnt have everything i needed ie 3G browser.

I DIDNT get caught up in the hype. When the 2nd gen came out it suited my needs so i got one

Now i dont plan on buying one until AFTER my first two years in medical school bc when rotations start ill need a keyboard and will have to get a BB. But until then why in the world would i just get the new one when this one has literally more than i can use?

BB owners dont do this.

Then don't. No one is asking you to, anyhows.

Initially I thought you were querying on the marketing campaign of Apple. Now it seems that you're spilling over and trolling on other peoples' decisions to upgrade - which in all fairness, is their perogative.

I'm starting to see this thread lose its plot by the post...

....... A certain lack of self-confidence/self-esteem?.... Insecurity?..... Immaturity?..... Desire to impress their peer group?

Not everyone fits into your categories ;)

Because new things are always better in one way or another. This "better" you might not care about but others do.

You are like these people complaining during the 80s that modem speeds are plenty fast. Only when real applications for broadband was out, these whiners started seeing the real benefits.

The same will probably apply to the new iPhone. Faster CPU, GPU, better camera, Magentometer will mean better and more interesting apps.

I just love the phone its a good way to support apple I will always try to get the next gen iPhone if I can. The 3G is great and beats any other phone out there but theres more it cant do and will be added.

I just hope this guy learns a little more about logic and reasoning before advancing too much further into medical school. :)

Yes, for the safetey of others, hopefully he'll choose a different profession.

Btw, anyone else notice that just a couple hours before this thread the OP said he was going to buy the new iPhone in June in another thread. I think someone is just trolling or trying to get their post count up.

Its not about the money...

I can't even RESTORE my phone leave alone get another 3G if this thing breaks.

MY LIFE is in this phone and since i cant just pull out the micro sd card from the micro sd slot apple gave us im stuck with this particular phone for a WHILE.

And like I said i dont see why id get the new model anyway.

But ya like the other guy said:

Some people are professionals like me (headed to medical school, busy, etc) and need a smartphone for work and only some play

OTHERS need their smartphone for fun, status, etc so ya then it makes sense to get the newest and greatest.

Well then, by all means, someone as "professional" as yourself should not be forced to buy the latest and greatest iPhone each year.
...
Wait, I forgot, no one is forcing you to buy it!

Is it impossible for you to accept that some people might just want the new iPhone each year? Why is that so hard to grasp in your "professional" mind?

That's pretty rude man.....nah j/k, you got owned OP now go back to your "professional" life and leave our "unprofessional" lives alone.

Well for starters, you're a student, not a professional. I guess we are all suppose to be impressed that you're in med school, seeing as you like to mention it over and over.

Maybe you should learn to do your research, I know I'd want my doctor to. If you'd done your research you wouldn't have been saddled with such an inferior device that clearly doesn't meet your present or future needs.

no the iphone 3g is great. i'm a professional busy person and i need my device...it's been an investment actually.

when the dji was higher and things were normal i made $3,980 (bought wachovia at $2 and sold at $6)

so i've paid for my iphone more than 13 times over. the iphone 3g was a very useful tool in me making this money.

but ya this is settled. people that are professionals and busy (im headed to med school, meetings with top scientists and MDs,etc. [i got connections]) don't want to leave their device b/c it's their life b/c all their info is on it. My particular iPhone that I own I feel is a part of me like an arm or leg that I couldn't afford to lose without suffering greatly.

consumers, nonprofessionals, and people who just buy for pizazz, flare, status, and hype then should get the newest and greatest b/c their specific device is not their life.

I get it now. If my specific iPhone wasn't so vital to my daily life I'd upgrade too.

I hope your hospital upgrades to the newest and best technology, LOL!

Guys, he'll be preaching the wonders of the "newly" released medicines to his unknowing patients as he pockets kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies.

Some things I don't understand. Why do so many people feel the need to buy the new Iphone every year or every two years.

It probably has something to do with complex systems of socialization, whereby people are taught that consumerism is a healthy extension of a natural life... or maybe they just like new ****.

uhhmmm.. if your "specific" iPhone is so important, why don't you just back up all of your info on your computer? Then you can buy a new phone and transfer everything over? I think you just came on here to brag because you think you're important.;)

I wish all (future) doctors were required to post in forums and on blogs - it'd be so much easier to know which doctors to choose/avoid...
