Dear OP.

There is this thing, its called marketing. Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.

If you do not wish to buy said products then don't . Welcome to Capitalism.

I do have good news, I did find a phone to suit your needs.

The Firefly! Man, I remember that thing.
Sounds perfect for the OP.
Very "professional," in my opinion. Perfect for our "professional" OP with his "professional" connections, you know, scientists and MD's.

Give. Me. A. Break.

Firefly looks too complicated for this confused person, maybe the Life Alert product with the single easy to press button.

Some things I don't understand. Why do so many people feel the need to buy the new Iphone every year or every two years.

I treat my Iphone 3G as a longterm device I'll be using for the next four years.

Why? It has everything I need and use:

Push Email
Web Browser with 3G speeds which is PLENTY fast
Phone
Calendar
Good Enough Camera
Music
Facebook & Twitter

This is all I use on my Iphone. I don't even have but a few apps.

How does it make sense to get the new one every time a new one comes out??? For what????

I wonder why you care so much what other people do? I'm not a mac head but I just think the device is that cool that I'd like to sell my old one ebay and buy a new one when it comes out. What's the big deal?

i'm not posting on here to re-assert my importance in society. flaunting this would be conceited, ill-mannered, and totally unacceptable by our standards.

you see many iPhone owners choose to make fun of the OP and post ridiculous pictures of outdated phones. you lose your credibility and from now on i will not take any regard to your posts. there is no second chances in life when it comes to this.

now correct me if i am wrong, but if you back up your iPhone are not there certain things that will not transfer to a new device?

exempli gratia notes?

Wow there were only 2 iPhone's released and I still have my first one since 07'. So yes without a doubt Im buying the new iPhone just because I don't have the features of the 3G. . .and becuase I can :D

Well mostly because of 3.0 and the hardware!

I don't know anyone who bought a 1st Gen and then went out and got 2nd Gen when it came out.

there is nothing wrong with this. as a member of this forum stated, many owners buy iphones and tech for pizazz, status, and hobby

other professionals like me (med school again) use their technology as work horses to further enrich their careers and have a harder time switching around

nothing wrong with getting the "latest and the greatest" if that's your thing.

So you started this thread to just voice your thoughts:rolleyes:

This forum is going to be hilarious!

Okay Mr.High and Mighty (med school student again), good job you got your post count up with this crap. I really recommend that Mods close this thread.

When I got my iPhone 3G and set it up, iTunes asked me if I wanted to restore from the backup of my 1st gen iPhone. I did so and pretty much everything was restored to it: contacts, camera roll, SMS messages, calendar items, youtube/stocks/weather/maps/clock settings, WiFi networks, mail settings. Pretty much the only stuff not in the iPhone backup stored by iTunes are music and videos which are easily restored by just syncing with iTunes anyway. Apps are easily restored as well, and I believe that the backup includes and data associated with those apps.

So, as long as you keep an up to date backup of your iPhone you'll never lose anything if you replace a damaged or missing/stolen iPhone or upgrade to the new one that will probably be released this summer.

Really? This is good news. I will consider the next iPhone if this is the case. Hopefully it will have a feature I need or desire.

Now, 1 more thing and this thread can be be closed for all I care....

Are you guys actually competeing to get higher thread counts and posts or something?

I don't understand. How does this benefit your membership on here? Or is it an ego thing?

Thank you all for your participation. I believe we have had a superlative dialogue.

Being a productive member by offering good help to all other forum members best benefits your membership here. Post count has pretty much no bearing at all, just shows which of us are a little too obsessed with this stuff...

The only thing that comes to my mind, regarding this topic is; don't buy new all the time just because you can, and have money. Try put some thought behind your purchases, make them more justified. It's a better lifestyle...

So you started this thread saying that the iPhone hype is a marketing scam and that it already does everything you need, but now that you know that you won't lose anything when changing to a new one you're considering upgrading after all?

That pretty much sums up this thread, although you forgot the bits where the OP also likes to keep pointing out his self importance as a "professional" (read student)

Ok I've hopped on the bandwagon now that I'm aware you can restore your iphone and everything will transfer to the new one.

How much would a white iPhone 3G 16 GB sell for on ebay if I sold it a week or two before the new iPhones launched?

Thanks,

-Future MD

Now i dont plan on buying one until AFTER my first two years in medical school bc when rotations start ill need a keyboard and will have to get a BB. But until then why in the world would i just get the new one when this one has literally more than i can use?

BB owners dont do this.

I didn't forget it, I just thought it was mentioned enough by other users... :D

Erm... If you recall correctly the OP doesn't want to highlight his importance:

Hence why he doesn't sign every post with - Future MD  ;)

Just a thought...
