The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An internal error has occured.

Keep trying

i thought my iPad had some sort of legitimate internal error but I just tried the update 3-4 times and it eventually worked. I did update lion earlier, but the only thing that seemed to work was trying to update it over and over.. Its worth it:apple:
 
My Ipad and Iphone both just updated...and it hung up on the verify for some time before it was good. So I wonder if they increased the time-out settings on the server or something? I'm not a guru of enterprise, but it seems logical. Just weird they both updated within one try of each other after doing like 100 attempts on each...one from mac mini other from MBP.....
 
Been trying to update my Iphone 4 for some time now.

After several attempts getting the 3200 error, on about the 6th attempt I managed to get to the next step. It then hung for about 45 minutes before giving error 3014.

phone is now in recovery mode and completely wiped. tried a restore about 10times but get the error message 'The iphone 'iphone' could not be restored. An unkown error occurred (3004)'

Anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it??

Its ironic that one of the main reasons for upgrading was so I wouldn't need itunes in the future for updates.
 
I am seriously still trying... This is going to be the 37th time. I think I give up on this one :(
 
Hi! I live in Germany and I have the same problems. :(
I first updated my iPad and even though it had some error messages along the way, I could still update it, as well as my OS X Lion. Alas now with the iPhone, it's a completely different story. :(
Also, I can't even migrate my MobileMe-Account to iCloud. First it was still "only for developers" and now, it simply says that it can't do the transition right now. I'm really bummed about this one, I waited the whole day and now it doesn't work. :(

No one's claiming Apple is not at any fault, but rather that any of us end users can avoid these pitfalls by simply exhibiting a little patience.
 
After several update attempts and failures, one of them put my iphone in near brick (DFU I think) mode - it booted but told me to connect to itunes - i tried varies ways of getting out of it with combinations of power/sleep/home buttons. No go. As near as I could tell - I HAD to restore my phone. After several attempts I got that to go through. Unfortunately some of my apps do not back up their data to the mac, and I have to reload media, but at least my phone works again. And it can't hurt to have a fresh reload once in a while, I guess. For awhile there I thought I'd have to go pick up a new phone, but alas in the end I got the old one working again. (the 4s may not be a huge upgrade, but it is better than the 4 . . .) Eventually I had to set it up as a "new phone" - too bad it is still the old one. Lesson learned, again, don't upgrade on first day - the potential aggravation is not worth it.

I understand the ease of use thing - but if apple servers cause the problem then ease of use is useless if the apple servers do not work. This makes me very nervous given the lion distribution channel.

I just hope apple is ready for iCloud

edit: I suspect they are ready to gather "social-personal" information. Like everybody else - aarg!

Worthless iPhone

Right now It has set my iPhone in DFU mode, But I can't restore so my phone is worthless right now!:eek:

I've tried updating my iPad for last two hours and last 20 attempts were exactly the same, and finally it is updated :)

Yes. Most of the "fixes" listed here are not really fixes, and are just coincidence. The only fixes that might help are rebooting and disconnecting/reconnecting the usb cable (this last one might be useless, too).

The restore/upgrade process requires that Apple's servers be contacted for permission or something, and Apple's servers are currently horribly overloaded. If iTunes can't successfully communicate with Apple's servers, the restore/upgrade will fail. It's as simple as that. (However, I'm seeing indications that the servers have to be contacted more than once, which would explain why people are seeing different errors at different points in the procedure.)

Just keep on trying -- eventually, you'll succeed.
 
iPhone could not be restored

Tried updating my iPhone 5x and still didn't work after updating OS/iTunes.

Switched to my iPad and tried....still nothing. Then went back to my iPhone and bingo worked no problem. Didn't do anything special...it just worked.

I am going to go back and try the iPad...cross your fingers.
 
My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode now after the update failing over and over again with the internal error message and unknown error message. This is a huge pain, I'd be fine if the phone was useable after the update failure, but now it's useless.
 
I tried updating 3 or 4 times, and I'd get the same restore error. And it would take ages to get to this error as well, as it would do a backup before updating which was slow as ******!

So then I hit the restore button, and I think it is installing now! :D

EDIT: It's done! Funny how I clicked on Restore on the first try and it worked!

20th attempt so far, still stuck in recovery mode :(

past 11pm now.. could do with it working pretty soon!

21st attempt, it worked! phew, what a relief.

Did Apple take control of your phone and force you to update right now? I'm sure your phone was working perfectly before you tried your update--you got excited for this update just like the millions of other users and just can't wait. And if you thought it would go perfectly smooth, you are either new to Apple or just a bit delusional. New product release, major software update, etc., all have issues of some sort or another and while yes, this is certainly frustrating is shouldn't have been totally unexpected--happens every time.

If your iPhone is crucial to your business/work, why on earth would you think it was a good idea to try this within a couple hours of launch in the middle of the day when you admit you cannot work without your phone?

I did it now mainly because there is never a good time to do it as far as my job goes...actually Wednesday was probably the BEST time for me to do it......and no...I am not losing it...LOL....I really am not....I just think its piss poor for Apple to have this situation EVERY time there is a software upgrade or a new phone released. If I did this in my business I would be fired...my company would probably lose every single one of its contracts... If this was Microsoft, and they had this problem it would be front page news and stock would drop and every apple fan boi would be laughing their asses off...

I just feel bad for all the guys that are totally bricked right now like me....as I said I have a work around...I have my number ported to my wifes phone...guess I empathize with the guys who truly are screwed more than the guys who succeeded...
 
After several attempts to back up and restore, including restarting my computer it finally worked and I am good to go:D

However, it appears, I have to reload my apps (ie. banking, credit cards, etc, mobile apps)
 
Turn on Airplane setting

A friend on Facebook said to put the phone into 'Airplane' mode, then try the upgrade. Did it and it worked first time (after 3 hours of trying). :)
 
I'm sure it's been mentioned, can't keep up.

Anyways, I got this tip from another forum. User said after turning off, it worked.

I just tried it and success!!! BTW, this is for my 64GB touch 4G.
