" Here's a look at the possible culprits: The press: Ah, the irony. Could it be the Apple-loving media is killing this iPhone? *"

Why aren't people buying the Verizon iPhone?

I'll tell you why, because it's not a NEW iPhone.

It has nothing better to offer than what the AT&T iPhone has.

In fact, it's a lot more restrictive in terms of what you can do with it.

Well, iPhone 4 is now an 8-month old phone. Folks either got it already and sales already saturated with this model or the ones who didn't get it are just waiting for the next one. Even iPhone 4 fell out of the TOP 5 in the UK with the HTC Desire being #1.

iPhone turns 4 this year. Anything in life can get OLD and tiresome.

I am getting bored of all the OSes right now. I played with the Atrix 4G the other day and Android still isn't buttery smooth with its multi-touch like iPhone. I've supported Android since the beginning and now feel it is just the ugly twin sister of iOS with more steps to get done. I got a better experience from WP7 and even I know the lack of customizing it will make it boring after awhile. I want XPERIA PLAY, but Android is becoming such a turn-off for me and who knows if the OEM updates them responsibly compared to the Nexus phones. I heard the Motorola XOOM's Honeycomb software is still buggy.

The only OS that interest me is QNX. Ironically, QNX has been around a lot longer than people realize. That looks like it is optimized for multi-cores. But knowing RIM, it could take awhile before we start seeing them in phones and not just tablets. It still takes years to catch up to apps and refinement with the hardware and battery life. I'm sticking with iPhone for awhile since iTunes cards are accessible and doesn't need a credit card to pay for apps like I do with Android. But at the same time, iPhone is getting rather boring and I don't want to use Apple forever since I don't necessarily like them either. I do want to try something else, but I haven't found the one phone where I can truly love the software, hardware, and the company that produces it.

I really don't care if the iPhone isn't as hot as it once was. All I care about is if it does the things that I want it to do.

2. The iphone will sell on Verizon just fine. It will never do ATT-esque numbers because Verizon is charging out the yin-yang for a device they got 4 years late (ok, maybe just 8 months late). It will be one of their most sold devices, but I can't see it being dominant a la 2008-2009.

except for the fact that they're charging exactly the same as ATT is currently AND offering unlimited data (ATT is not), unless you're considering that $5 extra a month "out the yin-yang"

iPhones don't depreciate in value during their life cycle until a new model is released. Unlike other phones (ex. android) which have their value driven down by a newer device a month after their release. So no, Verizons pricing isnt unreasonable

Actually, if you'd been paying attention, you would realize that AT&T actually RAISED their unsub price on the iPhone to match Verizon's.

so yes, verizon is charging people out the yin-yang AND their data plan is more expensive

I'm not sure i know what you mean, verizon raised the price of the iphone due to the antenna difference. Now if AT&T raised their price just to match verizon then that would be a very verizon-ish move on their part since they didnt have to raise the amount.

The iPhone is successful, because it does everything so transparently. The day after I got my iPhone 4, I was talking to a Honda dealer to buy a new one for my daughter, in another state, when she called my land phone with her cell. I wanted her to talk to the dealer, so I tried to make a conference call, and it worked so easily. She is now driving a new Honda.

To make a conference call with my LG phone, I had to spend 10+ minutes with the user manual.

Uh, yeah. The iPhone 4 is almost a year old. Also, that is why the next iPhone needs a complete redesign because everything smartphone looks like an iPhone now.

This thread made me laugh.

If the iPhone isn't as hot, which phone would the OP say is hotter than the iPhone 4 right now?!? The Atrix?? LOL. One of the Samsung Galaxy phones JUST NOW getting Froyo? Please.

The iPhone 4 may be a year old, but it is still the hottest device out there. Sales may not have met expectations for Verizon, but lets not forget it destroyed their previous 24hr sales records.

The reason is simple, it's not a new device and most people know a new one comes out in June, also CDMA iPhone has no sim slot and is useless for people that travel.

Think that irks me that absolute most and keeps me from being totally interested in android is the inconsistent manner handset makers are rolling out OS updates ... the one thing you can be sure of is that for a minimum of 2 years you'll get every single update (yes the odd feature might not be there) but in general its damn close.

Some of the android devices are stuck on the release at point of sale and that just blows the experience for me....

Agreed, couple of red flags for me with Android are:

No Hardware UI Acceleration.
No multicore support - Galaxy S II? Wasted hardware right now.
No guaranteed and on time updates.
No consistent UI across all devices - Diversity is good but it creates fragmentation.

...has the Verizon iPhone really not been selling that well? I know the lines bombed, but every Verizon person I know who got an iPhone 4 preordered it and got it in the mail from Verizon. They let existing subscribers get it a week before new subscribers, remember?

I was under the impression that no one showed up in lines but sales have been pretty steady.

There are no sales numbers yet. All we have are rumors on gadget blogs, hence the flaming.

The iphone 4 has been out for a while now and the competition has caught up. I played around with an Atrix at the AT&T store and imho the hardware is better than the iphone4. Check it out for yourselves if you don't believe me. I was shocked how fast it loaded web pages and how easily it handled Flash video. I couldn't get it to stutter on any Flash videos or Flash heavy sites. Apple will always have the better apps, but people are waiting for better hardware. They're not as dumb as Verizon thinks they are.
