At work I sometimes freak out worrying that my phone isn't on vibrate. Even when I check the switch and see that it is I have to flip it to ring and then back to vibrate to ensure it is set correctly.

My biggest one is: Download games and apps but not use them in fear of killing the battery prematurely or heating up the phone.

The same kind of apps have to be next to each other, all apps not used as much cant go on first page, constantly deleting the apps in multi tasking, no folders on first page, have to have even number of apps on first page...

This thread has made me appreciate how non OCD I am. It must be tiring and stressful to be like some of you are in this thread

I'm not too OCD about software usage etc...I'm OCD about the hardware! I spend many hours a day laboriously polishing my glass with micro fiber...

Sounds like sarcasm, but funnily enough I don't care much about the hardware. Never had a case on any my 4 or my 3G, and if my 3G and MBP are anything to go by, my 4 is gonna get some abuse. I just give up being careful at some point.

I can't believe how many posts there are about how so many of you are think we are crazy, nuts, are laughing at us, or "proud" that you have non of our "problems". For one, you make it sound like you're superior to us or more intelligent. Hah, it's not even a big deal that we do these things (for most of us). We're going out of our way to specifically name every little thing that relates to the topic of the thread, for the purpose of a quality thread, but most of us could probably live without doing any of this stuff and/or would never think much of it until they found this thread and decided to share, for the first time, the secret little things they do with their own phone. And just because I'm the one that made the thread to begin with doesn't mean I'm any more extreme. I just wanted to make a thread so I put a little effort into listing whatever I could come up with.

Ditto. You mentioned a 'hardware OCD' thread in the OP. Link?

my ocd list////
1. things like Phone + Messages, Photos + Camera, Safari + Mail have to be next to each other
2. third row (Tumblr, Twitter, IM, Facebook) HAS to be in that order
3. remote has to be in the bottom right corner
4. dock has to be safari, mail, ipod, settings (can't STAND it when settings isn't in the dock)

i totally understand what someone said about the battery percentage driving them crazy, but i think it'd drive me crazy not knowing exactly how much juice i've got. AND i wish locking it in portrait mode didn't put that stupid icon on the top bar.
:)

I love this thread! It makes me feel slightly normal :D

Here are my little iPhone obsessions:

* All of the default apps must stay in their original position, including the apps on the dock
* All iTunes media must be correctly named and have the correct album art
* I must always revert back to the first screen before locking the device
* All apps should be notification-free
* I prefer to have a full page of apps (I dislike empty spaces)
* The battery indicator number must be either a 5 or a 10 eg. 95, 90.
* My safari app must stay page free, unless it's in use
* All but four app store apps must be in categories
* No default apps should be in folders

I'm OCD, I know :p

*sniff*

You all make me so happy. I like you. I really, really like you!

Okay... my OCD stuff is a combo of hardware/software:

Hardware:
1) Dislike smudges. DISLIKE! Wipe down phone at every opportunity.
2) Dislike bubbles/disruptions in anti-glare screen protector. In fact, I'm gonna go change the one I've got now. It's freaking me out.
3) Must have a case. Tried going without one and almost went nuts from looking for scratches. At least when a case gets scratched, I can throw it out and buy a new one.

Software:
1) No folders on the home screen. All other apps not on home screen MUST be in folders. Must.
2) I never delete apps unless I really hate them. If I EVER found them useful or think they may be useful, I have to keep them. They go in a folder.
3) I must have certain apps on the home screen in just the right place. For example, Camera must be on right at top (one of you is my brother on that one), Mail must be top left.
4) I dislike the look of the "Settings" app, and even though I know it is useful, it's in a folder on the 2nd page.
5) I cannot have two apps of the same color side by side (hello my German brother!). I can, however, deal with them if they are on top of one another (there are so many blue ones, I had to give in on that).

I know I probably have more. I am also using the percentage thing for the battery, and you all have made me realize that it's probably driving me nuts. My husband loves it. He set it. I think that if I change it, he'll feel less helpful, so I will try not to look at it.

:D

Here's my OCD setup.

There was a similar thread made about a week ago but it leaned more toward hardware related stuff (such as keeping the phone fingerprint-free). Here, I'm referring mainly to software related stuff (organization, etc.).

Let's talk about the stuff that bothers you, you absolutely need to do, or whatever it may be that is fitting for a thread like this. I'm interested to hear what everyone else does and doesn't do with their iPhone.

For me, I...
  • cannot have applications on my phone that I don't use
  • must have my apps in the order I put them (meaning if I were forced to change the way it is, I would REALLY hate my phone)
  • really don't like having a page that doesn't have a full row of apps on the bottommost row
  • do not want to jailbreak my phone because of how messy/ugly/unofficial I feel it becomes
  • LOVE browsing through the "Post your iOS4 home screen" thread because about 80% of them make me cringe at how gross/bad they are (which is fun since it's not my phone)
  • can't have anything from my iTunes library on my phone that is not at least of VBR quality, must have high-quality artwork (for cover flow), and must be perfectly filled out (name, artist, album, etc.) (unfortunately my library is about 50% perfect and 50% a total mess still)
  • often close out of apps on the multitasking bar and reboot my phone
  • have my contacts filled out with all fields properly when applicable (well, to an extent)
  • hate when I hate the name of an app but don't have the ability to change it (e.g. Bank of America's app is called BofA - gross!)
  • kind of hate the look of folders but use them anyway
  • anything less than 4 apps on the dock kills me for some reason (especially when there is just a single folder)

Okay, I'm not really as bad as I probably sound from the list. But I want to have a fun/silly/bizarre discussion so I added whatever I could come up with for myself, even if it's really insignificant (and I'm probably forgetting stuff). Feel free to post your home screens as well.
Professional help is appropriate when a mental, emotional, or behavioral problem significantly interferes with someone's ability to function, or when symptoms exceed an individual's tolerance. Therapists vary considerably in their training and professional standards.

This is how OCD I am:

1st page:
Camera has to be top right
Mail has to be top left
The stores have to be right next to eachother
Texts on left while phone on right to have green on both sides

2nd page:
8 folders on the sides while 8 fav. apps in the middle
Folders have to have an emoticon right next to the title

3rd page:
Free apps on left, paid on right
Has to be full rows or i'll buy more apps

All those notification badges would drive me absolutely crazy!!!

They kind of do already and its not even my phone.

This is an insecure type of response. Nobody said anything about who is more intelligent. Never entered my mind at all. And no i dont think you could just stop doing these things because a lot of them most people dont do.

I mean if i get a bunch of fingerprints on my screen, ill wipe them off but i dont do it every time i touch it and it dont bother me if i have some. Just when it gets real bad ill wipe it off.

The only thing i think about this thread is that it is damn funny to read some of the OCD's going on.
