I also wish Podcasts (or any media) had better fast forwarding/reversing ability.

Whats wrong with the one now? The futher down you bring your finger, the more precise the scrubbing (or the reverse, I can't remember since my Touch was stolen :()

Alright, I call troll on OP. There is no way he could have this many complaints about the iPod app, especially with insignificant things such as crossfade.

I just want a now playing for music and a separate one for audiobooks so I don't have to scroll through all my audiobooks and chapters when I stopped to listen to a bit of music. Also it often forgets which track I was listening to.

If i remember correct iphone/ipod touch has won almost every mp3 player test?i have been using it since the first iphone and i love it.

I love the iPod functionality on the iPhone, and I've owned:

1st gen iPod Shuffle
4gb iPod Mini Silver
1st gen iPod Touch 8gb
3rd gen iPod Touch 64gb

The iPod on the iPhone is just as good as my 3rd gen. Which is brilliant.

The iPod app was one of the main reasons I perchased the phone. I wasn't a big fan of carrying around a cell phone and mp3 player, and putting music on a blackberry was a pain in the ass. I had an iPod touch for a while and always thought it would have been better as a phone, so the iPhone 4 was just what I was looking for. Its preference, and I thought it'd be better to have everything in one device.

The only thing bad about using iPhone as an iPod is when there is heavy wireless interference and you hear that buzz sound coming into your headphones.

Other than that it's all good.

The what? What are you talking about?

As for the OP, I don't get the complaints. Crossfade? Is this an issue? I've never thought about it in my life. Why would I want this?

I love the Iphone Ipod app, I think it's pretty close to perfect, and I'm surprised my wife agrees. She's been using a click-wheel Ipod for years, either an older 20gb 4g Ipod or 16gb 3g Nano, and didn't seem to think the touchscreen would be an improvement. She quickly was won over to the Iphone Ipod this summer.

The only improvement I'd make is what another poster said - scrolling song titles (and I'd add album titles.) I'm not quite sure why they removed this functionality, but I hope it comes back.

Thread starter couldn't be more wrong.

It's perfect, it's super organized (as long as your itunes is organized).

I have all my music, genius mixes, podcasts, tv shows, movies, all organized perfectly.

Makes easy switching too with the bottom bar.

The only time I don't use my iPhone for an iPod is when I"m working out. Then I use my shuffle.

The iPod app for the iPhone is a simple music player for people who like things simple. If you want more features try Cue Play DJ, however this is not an iPod like app. I like to be able to tweak the music little more than the iPod allows, so I live with some of the limitations of Cue Play DJ. At home I never use iTunes to play music, I use Traktor or Numark DJ. Looks fantastic on a 65 inch TV.

If its so simple why can't Apple make it work ?

Everytime I get a push notification my ipod volume shoots to max.

I don't think it's great. Certainly there are lots of things that could be improved - one click update checks for all your subscribed podcasts rather than checking individual episodes one at a time in the music store, being able to turn off cover flow, access to the EQ controls without the usability nightmare of having to exit and go into the settings app, a more natural way to add tracks to a playlist while it's playing etc etc.

The iPhone is just as good of an iPod as well, an iPod. Don't understand where the OP is coming from at all.

Agree with that...and not sure about all these extra expectations. It has play, pause, shuffle, etc... If you have a dock in the car or at home it works even better.

For me, it's the idiotic syncing process that kills music on the iPhone. It's ironic that I listened to music because of owning iPods and iPhones. In our cars, now we only listen to the radio or we listen to CDs.

At least I kept a Creative Zen Stone, which is what the Shuffle should have always been.

My only issue is there is no scrolling text. I would like to see the full title of a song before choosing... many songs are live versions where the (Live) at the end of the title is cut off, so I'm always guessing.

This is one thing I always have an issue with. Not so much live, but long titles in general.
