Where did you get those screen sizes?
 
It looks like a really nice phone to me. If it is as snappy as the G2 with equal battery life I'll probably end up getting one.

Whats this heating issue MKHD is reporting? What is this the year Sony & LG get away with launching devices that overheat. Seriously dont see how people are excepting this from manufacturers regardless of who they are. Can you imagine the furore if Apple or Samsung did that....

you are correct...not the same size...but pretty damn close! 😀

Hi Jamezr,
It is 4mm (74.6 mm vs 70.6mm) wider than M8. Not sure if I am looking at wrong dimension. M8 is too thick for phone with 5" screen.

For me this isn't an issue, I usually don't run my brightness to 80%, much less 100%.
 
^ you should still be able to though .... that kind of response is like Apples your holding it wrong kind of response. Justifying something not working by blaming users.. just as iPhone users should be able to hold their phone any way they choose, so should LG users be able to use full brightness. no excuses really.

LG could have just tuned / optimised their software so that it didnt get as bright in the first instance if they know it has heating issues (clearly they did if they factured/designed software to step brightness automatically down) to avoid it overheating.

But yeah - it shouldnt be overheating.

Lets hope these issues are fixed before it hits retail shelves.

My iPhone 4 would heat hop a fair bit as well.

IMHO it will be a non issue.....the phone does not seem to overheat to the point it slows down the phone or renders it useless like antenna issue you mentioned. It seemed to function normally in the video. It just brought the resolution down a little....i doubt most will know it was done. Then the small percentage that runs their screen at 100% brightness will complain about the battery drain before noticing the the reduced resolution.

I guess when the public gets their hands on it and we get real world uses.....we will see if this is an issue or not.....

We dont know full ramifications just yet of heating.. but if isolated to screen brightness only i imagine LG will likely do as i said and rollout a software update limiting brightness to that 90% level, changing 90 to be 100%.

I do, but I think it's mainly due to the fact that the SGS3 doesn't have a very bright screen even at 100%. When I had the Nexus 5 I had the brightness at 20% and it was already much brighter than my SGS3 at full 100%. Even my Nexus 7 is at 30% brightness only and it's more than enough.

I saw the problem when trying a G2. I was indoors and put the brightness to 100% because the screen wasn't that bright, so having it at 100% would be a must for me, just like with the SGS3. Some screens just aren't that bright. Nexus 5 and 7 have the brightest displays I've ever seen, but the G2, Note 3 or SGS5 aren't half as bright in my experience (or for my liking).

When I was trying the G2 I was only doing basic stuff like web browsing and going through the UI. No games. After a few minutes the brightness went down to 90% because of overheating... What overheating????? I was only doing basic stuff!!! 😱😱

So it's definitely an issue. LG had the same issue with the G Pad 8.3.

That's too low! SGS5 can reach 500 and Nexus 5 I think was 480 or something like that.

See my point now? At 430 nits I would have to put the screen brightness at 100%. Maybe MKBHD also thought the same and that's why he encountered the overheating issue.

If the Nexus 5 with Snapdragon 800, 1080P screen and more nits didn't had overheating issues then I don't understand why the G2 with the same specs but less nits did.
 
It truly feels like the first flagship of 2014. Really glad to see LG bring a QHD display on the G3, it's the feature I'm mostly looking forward to on my next phone. I'm an S4 owner, I really was considering the S5, but once I saw it, it barely felt like an upgrade over the Note 3. The G3 on the other hand actually feels like the first upgrade of 2014, I can't wait to try out this phone in person.

Still, what's keeping me from buying this phone, is that it only has a S801 and a few months down the road, the Note 4 will include a QHD display and the S805. The biggest improvement of the S805 is the GPU and I'll feel better about spending $700 on a QHD phone with a S805. But the G3 looks like a great phone, and given the choice between it and the S5 and the M8, I would have gone with the G3.

It is a tad wider than the M8.

How do you find those numbers?

Not that it is a issue for me. I have my Nexus 5 on Auto so it isnt close to the 480 it can get to so that 430 would probably be fine for me. I never have the brightness all the way up.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The 805 is basically a tablet processor. There's a reason why you have yet to see it in a phone. The 810 and 808 are what you're looking forward to but those won't be in phones until 2015.

Do a little research on the topic before you drink the 805 coolaid.
