Mid-2007 MacBook Pro brought new did absolutely fine until it was damaged last month.

It was a solid spec on release, 2.4GHz C2D, 256MB nvidia graphics card, 2gb RAM and 160GB HDD.

Kept up pretty well after increasing the RAM to 4GB and adding in a SSD, I dare say that it would have kept going for another couple of years as a general use machine.

6 going on 7 years isn't bad at all.

I get the feeling that my new rMBP won't last as long though.

I got the Early 2008 MBP in my sig as a AppleCare replacement for my PowerBook G4 and been using it ever since. It has gone through a few upgrades and repairs after coming out of warranty.

2009: Upgraded to 4GB RAM
2012: Swapped out HDD with SSD
2014: Replaced right-side fan and front display bezel

I dont have much issues with performance, but the machine is showing it's age. Planning to get a 13" non-retina MBP soon and move the old one into a spare/loaner pool. That said, the SSD was the single largest performance boost and pretty much extended the life of the computer. Right after that is the fan and bezel.
