I would think the 'Official' New Member Thread: Welcome thread is a strong candidate.
Bacon should never be too far off.
I think the Waiting for Skylake MBP thread takes the cake. it's at 1,477 pages and 36,916 posts.

Waiting for SkyLake was started in 2013, The new Mac mini also in 2013. The new member thread was started in 2002. Bacon stated in 2004. So it looks like New members is at least one of the oldest threads still in use, it’s interesting to compare busiest to oldest.

I think the point is looking for a thread that is the longest running (by time) not the longest thread (by pages/posts).
No worries. Now I’m actually wondering about the “oldest and heaviest threads”, but I don’t want to dig around at all.

Ya know...without much effort, we could easily turn THIS into the longest and longest running thread. On a certain other nameless forum in which I used to participate, they regularly had contests with their sister sites as to which could have the longest thread with the largest number of participants.
I think many of the truly biggest, longest running threads have been replaced with “this year’s discussion” a la the many sports threads, or the “what are you listening to, version 27” threads.

Yes, I had wondered whether the question of the thread title drew a distinction between how long the thread has run for or how many posts ave been made in it?
Most of the really old threads have been moved to the archives if they have been dormant for a long time.
