I bought this case for my MacBook Air

http://www.booqbags.com/us/sleeves/viper-hardcase

It is an amazing case, very durable and has many uses it can not only hold a macbook air but also has a separate slot that can be used for an iPad and a smaller one for an iPad mini.

Since I have read mixed reviews on using hard shell cases (dust getting under the case and the case itself scratching the macbook) I bought a 6 dollar one from eBay instead of spending the extra for the speck or incase hard shells.

just curious do you use this instead of your hard case.

I do have one of the ipearl cases and love it in the house. BUT I am getting ready to go on a two week trip to italy and want to take the laptop and in the backback want something more cushiony. I like your case as I could put everything together in this case and stick it in the backpack.

But I can't tell how big it is. I am also looking at these:

Basically I need it to stay light weight but protect...it should be in the backpack and protected by all the OTHER stuff in there..but looking at options.

LOL thx :p
I just want a bag for travel. Most of the time the Macbook Air will be at home.
That list can be refined to a few chargers, nintendo 3ds XL, iPad Mini a book.

I've currently got the speck satin mba case.
link.

It's designed for the old MBAs. It covers the microphones. I'm looking for recommendations for something similar to this shell that doesn't cover the microphones, please.

I recently got the "iPad Zero" bag from Rickshaw.

Not only does it hold my iPad, but it also fits my 13" Air (barely).

I'll post some pictures later.

These cases look very functional and convenient.

My only concern would be with heat buildup. I believe the Air vents out the back. Wouldn't they get hot being enclosed in a case like this?

I have the Mcover on my rMBP. It fits well very snug, good air cooling strips on the bottom. I love the Kick Stands as it gives you a good typing angle. However these "Snap-On" cases provide very little protection.
The sleeves also have and issue. You can get great protection but once you take it out of the sleeve you are at risk.

This is why I'm a fan of the "Brief Case" style because
1. Great bump and ding protection.
2. Close it and your are protected, no additional steps.
3. Rain and spill protection. (If have Kids)

This is why I go with this style of case. I actually have the bottom one for my rMBP 15 and I just ordered the 13 for my wife's MBAir. The pouch is very handy, charger, phone, pen, ear buds, screen wipes. However it still remains slim and light much more than I realized. I love the hand straps, I can quickly grab my machine and its closed and protected and ready to go. Plus I don' have to worry about spills!

Correct it does cover the vents, but on 5-10 degrees under light use, web & email with some YouTube. I think the concern over heat is over rated, all pc's get hot. I've ran 8 tabs, YouTube vmware win7 and YouTube plus music in the back ground. I got some beach balls but no heat shutdown. Besides you can always take it out I'f needed like a sleeve and you still have the flexibility for this case to do what you need.

Having perused this forum for a number of years, I have learned quite a lot about more than Apple related matters. This has included threads on the topic under discussion, cases, bags and sleeves for Apple computers.

Last year, I noticed a reference to the products of the US company Twelve South, which manufactures the wonderful leather 'BookBook' laptop computer sleeves, (designed specifically with Apple in mind). These are beautiful, hand tooled leather sleeves, designed to look a bit like an antique book. Over the past fortnight, I have bought a MBA and an iPad, and, having promised myself that I would invest in a BookBook cover when I next bought a computer, I added a BookBook cover for both the iPad and the 13" MBA. They are beautiful and very well made - a terrific combination.

I am in the market for a small bag, mostly for my iPad but fitting an Air would be pretty handy for the future as well. No backpack, I'd like some kind of satchel/messenger bag style. The leather options are particularly attractive to me.

I read through this whole topic, and there are a ton of awesome suggestions. So thanks to you all for posting! I am tempted by the Muzetto that seems to be a favorite.

But I have to ask-- am I the only person who is confused about how open these bags are?

The flap just flaps over the top of the open bag and you're done. What happens if the bag tips over? or it's raining? or you have to lay your bag down under the seat of the air plane? Or you toss it in the backseat of your car?

Don't your items within the bag just... fall out and roll away? Obviously your laptop isn't going to roll off, but I'm thinking writing utensils and smaller items, even a phone.

For example, I see this picture of the Muzetto:
muzetto_laptop_15in_green_md.jpg

And I think to myself, there is a lot of extra space at the top for something to get free if the bag were tipped on the side (or even upside down by mistake).

It seems impossible to find a nice leather bag such as these, that has zippered compartments to avoid these accidental spillings. I may have to get this bag, though the non-leather makes me sad. haha:

Well you got to think more intelligent and can't just rely on a single flap hanging loose and water washing your mac ! Solution: you have to buy another Sleeve 1st and then insert it into this bag.

Haha I suppose that is true! I do have a booq Viper for one of my laptops, and my iPad has a folio I am pretty happy with. Maybe I am just overthinking this bag thing. :p

Melissa at Borsa Bella (http://www.borsabella.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=101) does great e-reader/iPad/laptop bags, and purses as well. All of the styles are available in any of her patterns, or you can even send her your own fabric. She's also doing a giveaway contest this week on Facebook.

I have 2 Kindle bags and an iPad bag from her, all of which I love. If I were looking to get a bag for my Air (which I'm not since I mainly use it at home) I would definitely get one from her.

I did get this Brenthaven sleeve, based on recommendations here, and love it:

I also got this skin from Decalgirl:

The Macbook Air actually fits nicely with a hard case on. I use this case whenever i am leaving the house and taking the macbook with me.

Its a fairly slim case but might be able to fit the magic mouse. It definitely can hold an iPad along with the macbook

How is this holding up for you? I like this style of case. Small enough for every day use yet able to carry charger or whatever when needed. I suppose you can use the separate compartment for an IPAD too? Got my eye on this one.. just not sure if it's cheezy...

Just got my ACME MADE Skinny Sleeve for my MBA yesterday, I couldn't be happier. The texture of the case is amazing, such a polished finish like it was made by Apple :) I guess I got what I paid for - $40!

I have this case and think it is one of the best cases out there. It is hard enough to protect the MBA from a little tumble, and it has space for the charger, a super drive, an external hard drive, and all the cables/adapters. Very protective and very convenient.

If I want to carry the MBA only (not any accessories), I have a couple of other nice sleeves I got at the Apple Store, bit the Viper is the best IMHO.

There are two tiny microphone ports on the left side of my 2013 MacBook Air 13", and the InCase Hammered Hard Shell case covers them--it's going back to the Apple store.

As well, the top part doesn't quite fit.

The 2013 MacBook Air 13" is *definitely* machined differently than its predecessor, in addition to those tiny microphone holes.

Skype and face time work on my 2013 air with an incase snap on case.

I loved it when i received it in the mail and is perfect if im just trying to carry my laptop and accessories and not need a big bag to do it.

Im excited for the semester to begin so i can see how tough it is for daily use. Also want to see if it will fit all the items im ordering.

I own the 'iPad Zero' or aka 'iPad Messenger' from Rickshaw as well. I have the MBA 11" though so it fits nicely with my iPad in the front pocket. I interchange between my iPad Messenger from Rickshaw and my Chrome Buran II when I need to carry heavier loads (e.g. Macbook Air 11", iPad, Wacom Medium Intuos 5, a change of clothes, water bottle, a few beers, charging cables, iPhone 5). Granted the Buran can hold a 17" and my 11" is engulfed by the large sleeve, I enjoy both bags and they suit my needs. I would definitely recommend a Chrome Buran Mini to anyone looking to pack a little heavier. It's got a built in sleeve that suits up to a 13" laptop, waterproof exterior (definitely lets you rest easy when you're caught in terrible weather), and feels comfortable regardless of how little or how much you pack. It's one biggest downfall is that it is most comfortable when worn high. For people who like to wear their messengers more like a shoulder bag or lower, this probably isn't the best option. But for anyone with an active on-the-go lifestyle like myself, it kick ass. The buckle seemed more like a novelty at first, but it came in handy when I needed to get the bag off in smaller spaces like a packed train. IMO I think it's a nice professional looking messenger that breaks away from the typical biker/hipster stereotype that's followed the Chrome brand. Definitely go for the black/black with black buckle though. It makes it less identifiable as a Chrome bag.

But both Rickshaw's iPad Messenger and Chrome's Buran/Buran Mini are amazing.

In regards to my previous post above.

To anyone who does like to wear their shoulder bag lower, there's this option by chrome. Have a friend who owns this and they absolutely love it. It fits an iPad in the front pocket perfectly and a MBA 13" just fine in the main compartment.
