More people would be in the market for an MBA if it lived up to the marketing hype of "Air" and included 3G wireless. Lots of people are in the market for an MBA type device.. just not one missing essential features common to other sub notebooks on the market. I'm at home now... sitting in front of 3 desks with at least $30,000 worth of just Apple products. I would like an MBA with 3G and a firewire port. Those features are essential to my needs.

See that's just the thing, those features are essential to YOUR needs. And to someone else a built in optical drive is essential to THEIR needs. And to someone else a customer replaceable battery is essential to that persons needs.
When does it end?? Apple can't produce a product like this and include everything the other notebooks have or just have certain features they think Trancepriest will need.
You have to accept what they are offering or take a hike. The Air is the future and this happens every time Apple comes out with something new, people trash it, say it doesn't fit their needs, say it's too expensive and compare it to Dell, threaten to leave Apple forever and then report back later saying "I BIT THE BULLET AND GOT A NEW MBA".
Don't say it won't happen to you because you have a handful of Macs that DON'T suit many people needs.

From what you are saying you would think that firewire has not been a staple on every mac and that 3g is not a staple on sub notebooks. I also don't have to accept anything... I can continue demanding firewire and 3g until I get what I damn well please. Perhaps I'm just jealous of people that can afford an MBA... that must be it.... I'm a Apple hater. :D

I wonder if the original poster even has a MacBook Air.

I admit it... I'm too poor to purchase the MBA and I'm jealous of everyone that has $1800 right now. Even though I'm getting one for free. I really wish I could purchase it on my own... just for the satisfaction of blowing my own money. Wait guys let me take a more recent picture... keep posting... i'll be back.

Well, I guess I am not qualified to make a opinion in this thread as I am a poor college student, but I have to admit that its a bada$$ setup. But you ought to start saving up so that you can afford the MBA :D

A lot of people are complaining about the border around the screen, the battery, the speakers, the keyboard colour, and nitpicking at every other component of the MBA, but I think what everyone is really mad about is the price.

If you can't afford it, don't try to convince yourself that it is a crappy machine by pointing out all of its flaws.

I resent the implication that I would belittle the Air simply because it is expensive! On the contrary, I belittle the Air because I was disappointed by the lack of a MacBook Pro update at MWSF. I want a new MacBook Pro, so nobody else is allowed to enjoy their Air in the meantime!

Well, in reality I haven't badmouthed the Air for any reason, ulterior motive or not. I think it is a pretty spiffy computer, and Apple made a bold move with it. I actually wanted an Air for about ten minutes after I heard it announced, until I remembered that I need to do density functional theory modeling on my laptop, and I don't like twiddling my thumbs that much.

The Air is about sacrifices, not compromises. It sacrifices functionality and affordability in exchange for extreme portability. And it is wicked cool.

The MBA makes me think a little bit of The Cube (without the drives of course). Both are very nifty looking and definitely put form ahead of function. Maybe the MBA will also get a showcase in the Museum of Modern Art sometime.

I can afford it. I just think its not that imressive at all. If someone said to me "hey I lost 20 pounds in one day." Then showed me that they cut off one of their legs it'd be the same thing. Such a decrease in function is not a remarkable achievement. Its thin, so's Kate Moss and she's useless too.
