You are also comparing a machine that is $950 more than the other then.
I have the MBP 13" and love it.

$950 more and still not as fast.

If you configure the base 13" MBP with a 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM directly from Apple, it is still $350 less than the 11" maxed out MBA.

If you install your own SSD and RAM(because, on a MBP, you can!), that gap is even larger.

I was comparing standard base model 13 Inch vs Maxed out 11" MBA.

Your knowledge of computing leaves much to be desired.

Which has the faster booting time, the maxed out MBA or the standard Never ever configured base 13 MacBook Pro?

When launching applications?
When opening Safari?
When fetching files?
When importing 1080p video?
When playing back a 4K video?
When moving files?

MBA all the way.

And yes, the MacBook Pro may be a bit faster when it comes to rendering and processing tasks, but it's not even noticeable. When rendering, it's probably just 10 seconds faster. The gain you have on the MBA's SSD is greater than the gain you have on the processor.

That's what made me conclude that the MBA is just as fast than the MBP.

Your comparisons are truly asinine as they're biased and one dimensional. Yes things that load from drives load faster from an ssd than a notebook sized hdd. What is the point there? You're picking one of the easiest problems to fix and using it as a basis of comparison. These kinds of posts have a unique way of annoying me as they spread bad information. If everything is loaded and you're working within an application where things are mostly held in ram, the ssd isn't s noticeable. It's only a big thing when you have heavy disk activity, and you've chosen to focus solely on such circumstances. For $100-200 you can buy an ssd online with a longer standard warranty.

Yeah, it does. Lifting a 13 Inch makes me feel like I'm lifting a huge brick. Lifting the MacBook Air feels like I'm lifting a feather.

In all honesty if a 13'' MBP is difficult for you to carry and there is nothing wrong with your body then you need to seriously work out once in a while.

This thread would have been a down-vote magnet back in the good old days....

YES! I wish that it can go back sometimes. But, I just up vote then remove it as a way of me doing a down vote. Haha.

I have a 17" MBP, OP must see this as obese. I had options to go to MBA, but I didn't because of the drive space. The lack of being upgradeable was the dealbreaker.

OKAY, FINE!

Its's not as fast as the MBP, but still very close to it's speed. Don't believe me? Then check the Geekbench results.

The point is, even if its a bit slower, you lost more mass, weight, volume and thickness than you lost performance.

In short, Apple has done more miniaturization on the Air.

Let's stick to the topic - the MacBook Pro is a fatty.

-snip-

In general use both "mass" and "weight" are the same thing. "Volume" and "thickness are effectively the same here too as volume will just be changing with screen size.

I think the MBP's are the perfect size to include an ethernet port and high-gamut screen. There is a reason neither the MBA or rMBP have ethernet ports. It is literally a joke to call these machines "fatty's".

now that actually depends on how long you use your notebook on the go. Im actually looking for a the RMBP 13 for a simple reason, it should be lighter.

Im on the go since 8am to 12am. With 2 troublesome shoulders and a back pain.

And here is something for my woes:

Hey guys he is right!

My 2011 13" MBP with BTO SSD boots up WAY quicker than our 27" iMac at work!

The iMac is just a big fat lump of crap! They need to totally redesign it and make it much smaller.

My point is that the 13'' MBP is "not heavy." Of course it's subjective. If you're a grown man or women it's light. If you're a baby it's heavy. If you are comparing it to a 17'' MBP it's light. If you are comparing it to an 11'' MBA it's heavy.

...etc, etc. It's not heavy. I have back pain too - toughen up I guess when you're carrying that 4.5 lbs laptop.

I agree that you can't compare the MBP with the Air. It's all relative...I was using a 13" MBP up until I purchased a 15" rMBP this summer, now this retina display unit seems so much lighter and thinner than the old 13"...but the 13" is still lighter than what other brands are offering.

I dont need to toughen up. Im extremely fit, I run 10-15k per day. I weight lift and so forth. I dont need to carry all the weight, if only it was with 8gb, I would have already bought it.

Not at all thick!

My husband has a 2010 17".

It is not thick. You got to get over that and consider yourself lucky you are not using those Windows laptops out there that are bulky and thick. It is sad that only :apple: has the creative genius when it comes to this field, what is wrong with this picture?

I don't see why you are complaining about pains and what not in regards to a 13'' 4.5 lbs laptop then.

Not sure what you mean at all about 8GB. Must be that link? Didn't click on it at all.

because no other PC laptops are as thin as the MBP?

please... get your head out of apple's ass.

It isn't just about thinnest. Anyone can make a thin laptop these days right? I guess what attracts me esthetically is not what would attract you (period). I don't have my head up :apple:'s ass, I am also a fashion designer so from that point of view I'd say that :apple: is Haute couture with no competitors maybe because everyone would be sued (which I think is ridiculous), but anyways - the others are more interested in being a Walmart clothing line. Just saying.

So basically you're saying macbooks are fashion statements.

No.

So basically you're saying macbooks are fashion statements.

Haute couture is tailor fit to the body of whom purchases or can afford the quality VS Walmart line one size fits all. It isn't about fashion statement, it is very much about quality and attention to so much detail. The macbook pro line is not thick. It is sexy and quality. Especially the 17" MacBook Pro.

The macbook is thicker than the retina and the air but is by no means "ultra thick." That name is reserved for dedicated gaming laptops.
