Having taken the demo today, it's an amazing experience. This device will do well in its initial weeks of launch for sure. Looking off into the future when there is more content available than can be seen, sort of like what the iPhone and Mac and TV has, it will be an extremely enjoyable device that is worth owning once in your life because of all the experiences you can witness using it. But that is its Achilles heel. TV and theaters because of their lack of content are things I barely use or go to today. This device lives or dies on its content, of which right now there is hardly any. Until there is a flood of hits in that space and it has more content on it than you have time to watch, it's not worth the asking price. If it was priced much less it wouldn't need to do more, but for the price it has to. It's the problem the iPad Pro has, we know it can do more but waiting on Apple to do anything about it is frustrating. Having said that, with the quality of the visuals being what they are, with next level graphics and AI to make the characters you interact with more lifelike, this would generate memories of living a game instead of just playing a game. But that needs to exist in order to ask for what they are asking for.

When it can run the entire Adobe CC suite then I'd think about buying one. Would be nice to work with zero distractions.

applevision pro

zero interest for me

it seems not successful along with applecar

i wish apple stops spending research resoucres for applevision and instead focuses on ipados

ordered mine in Germany 14:01 o'clock in 1 TB version plus 2 years of Apple Care

Just to put things into perspective - price is no object to me since all my purchases normally last so long that the daily cost is negligible - since I am out of university I get a monthly income that justifies most of the topics I long for - not all at once but stretched over time a lot of things are financially in reach.

Thus I don't get the discussion about pricing and also the bitter bashing of the AVP - is it enviousness or greed ...

Buy whatever you desire and never look back - life is too short for not allowing yourself to have fun.

Back to the AVP - for me it's a no-brainer to buy it - probably it will be the only one with a built in M SoC and all following ones will have to have a connection to your smartphone or even worse there will be never ever again this combination of features and functionality in a MR headset from Apple since they decide otherwise ...

For me a joyfull day and my pickup will be Friday 12th 2 PM at my Apple Store nearby - returning from a business trip and I know that I will enjoy this evening with my new toy - well deserved if I may state

To all that look at this device as not being fully mature and sorted out - of course it is a test vehicle - of course the APP store is a bit weak - of course it is not a fully refined and sorted out product with many iterations to perfect it

It's a one of a kind first gen test ballon that is used for sorting things out and I love to be a part of it - I will enjoy every single second and tell everybody who asks me that it's the best thing since sliced bread 🤣

In all seriousness - can't wait to get mine. Was a torture to wait that long - reading what Apple built in is just amazing from a technological standpoint - maybe the most advanced product Apple has built to date.
That alone justifies for me every cent

Especially since it's a device that needs to be personalized physically to work properly. Not like a laptop that you can just hand out and use.
I like the analogy of a personal jetliner - actually I did my due diligence on single and dual engine jetliners in case I'd win in the lottery and it would be one of my 1st purchases after ordering the new Bugatti Tourbillon of course 🤣

I get it - people are annoyed because they think they can not afford this gem and thus it must be hilarious or a bad joke or not up to the task - human's brains are somewhat interesting - we have a feeling towards something and then we search for arguments - they are for the most part made up and more self revelation than anything else.

I have a simple rule in life - when I want something I get it - I need zero reason for it - wanting it is enough reason.

Provided i have enough resources i get whatever I want. Sportscar, bronze sculpture, ham slicing machine or gourmet pots and fancy knifes to slice the meet like a chef ....

This time Apple has made their masterpiece - all latest and greatest engineering way above one's needs for such a device as the competitors clearly showcased. But like the Bugatti Tourbillon or a personal jetliner there are things in life that simple impress by their perfection. The AVP is the most perfect MR headset to date for normal human beings not being an F35 pilot. It is the closest you can get today to the future of MR experiences one can get.

I can't wait to pickup mine July 12th - was waiting for a year now. Far too long for my taste to be honest.

My comment was about usage of AVP in a corporate / enterprise environment. For this use case, it doesn't matter whether the individual users could afford it or not.

But enterprises like things they can buy, deploy and manage in bulk, and at least the deploy part could be a bit tricky with AVP.

PS: Just get a NetJets share, why all the hassle of owning?

Companies buy what generates profit. That’s why PCs are so popular at companies - they don’t directly generate revenue and thus it’s perceived as cost only and consequently good enough is the only measure.
The AVP is mainly a convenience device and/or for development purposes, the latter will eventually generate extra revenue and thus it could very well be a good deal of the sold numbers

I fly too seldom to justify that - charter flights are not that pricy any more

Who’s we? Low income earners?
This notion of AVP being a must-have piece of tech that everyone and their mom wants but is being gate kept by its tall price and thus reserved those earning more than "low income" is nonsense.

AVP starts at $3.499. It's not $10.000 or more. And Apple will gladly finance it with 0% APR over 12 months.

Paying just around $300/month for a year is doable for most of us.

Conversely, even paying off a few hundred dollars seems like a terrible deal if you don't want or fully understand the product you're buying, or think it doesn't do anything your TV, smartphone and computer can't already do:

For the mainstream consumer, neither the media hype nor the immediate value/$ for the specs add up for AVP.

The VR/AR goggle form-factor is also unfamiliar to the average person, or is only associated with obscure VR-gaming, which then makes the $3.499+ seem like an even riskier investment.

If Apple had cut the price and size/weight some 40%-60% by making AVP(and VisionOS) run tethered through a Mac, iPad or iPhone, then it would feel much more familiar and less risky.

Apple should have launched AVP as a Mac accessory, and then developed it to be a fully un-tethered, stand-alone device over many iterations.

$3.499 for something completely new and unfamiliar is just too much to ask. Consumers would go out of their way to get one, and owners would not be returning them as frequently as were seeing.

"Around the world" = 10 countries. Okay.
I mean it is literally ‘around the world’ as these countries are scattered in different continents. It didn’t claim ‘worldwide’, but merely ‘around the world’, and it is an accurate claim.

People say it’s a joke because IT IS a joke. It’s a product that doesn’t serve any purpose and that it will soon completely redesigned to make it vaguely useful and/or affordable or discontinued altogether. But in the meantime nobody develops any app or content for it because almost nobody owns it so it’s not worth developing for.

But then outright purchasing an aircraft to own would be even less justifiable.
Owning is different to using - I own many things that I rarely ever use - but when I rent a service I don’t own it and it has to make financially sense since there is no other aspect to it.

Having my own jet or helicopter would be amazing. Disclaimer - totally out of my financial reach though.

I own many nice things I adore to have in my possession. In the future the AVP will be one of these things where owning is better than renting.

The optical inserts are btw. much cheaper than I thought!

Just received an original 1930s Max Le Verrier Art Deco sculpture and I love it. Now imagine being able to look at such things you might be interested in purchasing and having the ability to position them in you home environment simulating the look.

Only 13 days left 😅

for you

for you

and that it will soon completely redesigned to make it vaguely useful and/or affordable or discontinued altogether.

in 2025 for the cheap version with lots of shortcomings and 2027 for the successor - I could be dead by then

But in the meantime nobody develops any app or content for it because almost nobody owns it so it’s not worth developing for.

Now that’s interesting - especially because there is a vivid community of APP developers working on new ideas.

And my main use cases are already covered - additional new ideas are welcome though.

MacRumors with their 'macrumors show' is really trying to push these two dudes on us with all their 'hot takes' on stuff. Every video I've tried to watch of them I turn it off after a dozen seconds out of boredom. Starting out with 'how is your week going ...'. It's like they think they're so fascinating to watch that we want to listen to their low energy banter.
