I haven’t had a chance to watch/listen yet - do they mention when the upgraded Siri stuff will be available? It’s it part of the ios18 dev beta? Or is it a separate thing related to the Apple intelligence thing?

I remember when MacRumors wasn’t even invited to Apple Events, much less loaned a fancy studio by Apple to record their podcast. Crazy how times change. They used to hate your guts for all the leaks. Probably still do to a degree, but at least now they also recognize how useful you are to them.
Maybe it's also because there's not much to leak in recent times? At least not much worth keeping secret.

The reality distortion field must have really kicked in.
Siri can now ask OpenAI? That means we don't have AI-powered Siri and it's still Siri.
AI-generated emojis? Seriously?

No, this keynote wasn't insane - it was almost as lame as the last one, but I missed "Mother Nature"
I was watching the keynote of WWDC and also the Platforms State of the Union. And I was also watching the keynote of Microsoft's Build a couple of weeks ago.

The differences are staggering, and not in a good way for Apple unfortunately. For one, Apple is really overdoing it with their coached body language for presenters. It's so forced and unauthentic that it looks almost like a parody. Microsoft's presenters at least look human.

Then, Microsoft was (obviously) talking a lot about AI as well, but they made examples of how it can help farmers, people with disabilities, healthcare etc. While Apple seems to focus mostly on stuff like Genmojis and silly images for virtual birthday cards. Yes I am exaggerating a bit.

But it really seems the focus of Microsoft is actually to help developers build stuff to get things done, while Apple seems to be mostly about communicating and consuming. Apparently this is fine for many people, but it is certainly different from how I have perceived Apple say 10 or 20 years ago.

Note that this is coming from someone working in IT for more than 25 years now. I was both deep in the Microsoft world in the beginning but also a real Apple fanboi for a long time. So I would say I know both "worlds" pretty well.

My goal in life is to be as much of a fashion icon as Hartley is.
They are just who they are. No need to get all dressed up for the viewers. Just a couple of nerds😉 talking tech.

And I loved seeing how excited they were this episode. It definitely didn’t drag at all!

Has anyone seen the answer to this question: if iPhone mirroring on your Mac is on, and then you bring up your laptop screen within Apple Vision Pro to do some work, is the iPhone then essentially available to the Vision Pro also? This would be super helpful for Vision Pro users if that would work.

From what I gathered, Apple has their own language model that does lots of AI things on device, and Siri can tap into ChatGPT for other things. Do I have that right or am I missing something?

Okay, you folks liked the idea, but to me the Apple presentation AI demos were disturbing. My forté has always centered around my innovativeness. The idea of Apple AI taking it upon itself to glom on to what I'm doing and then expanding on it, does not, to say the least, appeal to me. Apple's AI approach may very well yield the best results in the end, but Apple's excellent AI way won't necessarily fit in with the way I choose to do things. I don't want to be helped in this manner. Quite frankly I'd rather be wrong than to have had some entity having done the work for me.

“Insane, jam-packed, overwhelming” have not been words to describe Apple or their events for a VERY long time now.

The only insane and overwhelming things these days from Apple are the prices and RAM upgrade costs.
Well said.

Under Steve Jobs, Apple products were "insanely great." Under Tim Cook, Apple products are insanely expensive.
