I have both the Smart Folio and the Smart Keyboard Folio, I would switch between the two depending on what I needed. I’ve been reading here about the Magic Keyboard, debating for the last 2 weeks if it’s worth it or not. So I decided to finally bite the bullet and at least try it out, I could always return it if I don’t like it, and all I have to say so far is “Wow!” I really prefer the keys on the MK vs the SKF, but the most beneficial for me so far is the backlit keys, the best feature by far.

I returned mine, can't fault it, for my uses i prefer the apple folio. I have a iMac if i ever go iPad only will get one for sure. Cant really justify the $499 price tag here ATM.

My only gripe. I hate the material Apple is using for the folio and magic keyboard. This material warps, wrinkles, and just gets gross over a short period of time with normal use. For the premium cost the magic keyboard has it should be made of better material. I’ve replaced multiple folios just from the edges warping or just the outer layer of the material wrinkling and bunching up. I’ve moved on to a cheap generic folio for my Pro that is far superior and has out lasted any of the folio’s Apple has replaced for me since 2018.

While I really like the Magic Keyboard and I love the drop in take off aspect of it. Until they change the material I wouldn’t buy one.

I wonder if the beta is somehow causing this. I can’t see how the keyboard itself would be the cause, seeing how it isn’t triggered by a specific key every time.
I'll definitely keep my eye on it now that I've got the beta.

I put a Skin on my MK for that reason.

I've seen that too with folio for my 2018 11", wrinkled and edges frayed, also the magnets got weaker over time. My wife has the iPad now and just uses a cheap smart case. I just got another used 11" that came with a folio and it is better so far, magnets seem ok for now, it's 11 months old.

Don’t forget, if you get a Magic Keyboard or Smart Folio Case, it will be covered under any AppleCare+ that you have on the iPad Pro.
This is true. I’ve literally replaced 20+ folio covers because of AppleCare over a year’s time before giving up on them entirely. I wasn’t the only one many do the same thing. You would think it would get through to Apple to replace the material especially on the premium priced keyboard.

Had my 2020 iPad Pro (11”) since day one.

However, I’ve found that I haven’t been using it. I’ve found it much easier to simply reach for my iPhone 11 when a new notification comes in.

That is, until I bought the Magic Keyboard last week. It’s completely changed the use of my iPad and I’m loving the experience. I only have 2 regrets ...

1: I didn’t buy one sooner

2: Kind of wish I’d bought the larger iPad now, but I’m quite happy with the 11 inch.

Who else has had their iPad experience totally changed with the Magic Keyboard?

If you haven’t bought one, or are sitting on the fence re getting one, I cant recommend it enough.

So what's your experience using the IPP naked when you take it off the MK? I am still thinking of getting one for my 2018 IPP 12.9 but I am a little afraid to use the IPP without a case (3 kids and a dog just waiting to get a hold of my IPP).

A couple of days ago I was using my first generation 12.9 less and more for smart home functions. Battery and iOS isn’t running as good as it once did 5 years ago. So, I have a 2009 Magic keyboard and trackpad that normally is setup with the 2011 Mac Mini server, set it up with the iPad Pro and it has changed my usage. I now see how someone can use this daily if you life is in the iOS world. It could replace a laptop especially at 12.9. My only regret is that I can’t connect to an external monitor. I feel cramped using an iPhone no matter how big the screen, but I am so much more productive on the iPad Pro.

I haven’t kept up with what’s new in the iPad world, is there something new coming out or is the current stuff new? That new IPad keyboard is cool too.

I wonder if the current Apple Magic keyboard and trackpad are better? I don’t see battery life of my devices as I’ve seen in Youtube videos. Scrolling isn’t perfect with this trackpad either, no swipe magic unfortunately. I wonder if Craigslist would be a good option to find these devices to save some money and test it out before investing.

Sad just checked Apple website for compatibility with their full size keyboard and it only works with the 3rd and 4th generation models of the 12.9. Same thing for the Trackpad. Oh well, guess I’ll stick to old stuff for now.

I’ve actually gone back to the Smart Folio for now.

I’m enjoying using my iPad as an iPad.

I can, of course, take the iPad off of the MK when I want to, but I like the slight elevation that the Smart Folio offers when using it on my lap (such as now.)

I‘ll no doubt go back to the MK, but for now I’m enjoying using my iPad purely as it was intended. The only issue with the MK on the 11” being that some of the keys are too small. It’s just too cramped. You have the right sized iPad for the MK, and if I had the 12.9” I’d no doubt use the MK more.

I really think they should allow us to do custom keyboard shortcuts for hardware functions.

”Control” key is hardly used for anything, just let us use a global shortcut with [ ] or something to adjust the volume. Honestly, the only three keys needed are for volume up down, and play/pause toggle.

Otherwise, I am super impressed in how the ipadOS team implemented the cursor so well in v14 of the OS. I think they even improved the mouse i/o functionality with the magnetic latching onto icons and such.

I turned the “magnetic latching onto icons“ off.

Never liked it.

I’ve had the Magic Keyboard for over a week, and I know there are pros and cons to everything, and we all use our iPads differently, and as for my use, the MK is great.
I know the iPad/MK together is heavy, I for one appreciate it, maybe it’s the “premium feel” but it does it well. And when I want to use the iPad as an iPad, I simply switch the Smart Folio, to me it’s like the best of both worlds.
I did the back and forth with the MK and the Smart Keyboard Folio, and I can definitely say it’s quite the difference. The lightweight of the SKF is nice and definitely wins in the portability department, but I found that I missed using the trackpad.
I thought about wishing for a bigger iPad, but it wouldn’t make it as portable, and that’s why I’m staying with the 11”.
Let’s face it, we can always want something more, wish for something bigger/smaller, but I find the MK an amazing device, now the price is a different thing, a little more then what I wanted to spend, but no regrets.
No I have to go sell my SKF......lol.

I put my MK back on my iPad today, but I’ve just gone off of it.

I much prefer using my iPad as it was intended: A tablet.

I‘m now using the Folio again, which suits me fine.

I hope I go back to the MK at some point, with great enthusiasm, otherwise I’ve wasted £300.

I also enjoy using my iPad as a tablet, and when I do, I switch to the Smart Folio. But when I need the keyboard, I can’t say enough good things about the Magic Keyboard. And since they both use the Smart Connector, it takes seconds to switch. As much as I did like Smart Keyboard Folio, my main issue for me was, folding it back and didn’t like the feeling of hitting the buttons, even though it did nothing.

I’m just using the Folio, now.

Found the MK just too cramped on the 11”.

I may go back to it, but for now, I’m just enjoying using my iPad as an iPad.

The important thing is, enjoying your iPad for what it is, everything else doesn’t really matter. I don’t use my MK 24 hours a day.
