The Misty Mountains
Once upon a time there was:
  • The Matrix
  • The Matrix Reloaded
  • The Matrix Revolutions- Last we saw Neo he sacrificed himself so there would be peace between the machines and humanity. Looking forward to how this story ties in.

Matrix 4: Matrix Resurrections is coming in Dec 2021.

Regarding the Matrix trailer, we see many of the original actors and some kind of conflict, most significantly we see Neo alive with his eyes intact but maybe not, and if this is a sequel, I assume it is, my guess is that Neo’s existence is now as a denizen exclusive to the Martix, an independent program, not unlike the Oracle, the Keymaker, or the architect. So what is the conflict? Is it war against the machines chapter 4? 🤔

December 22- I may have to visit the theater, but it is one of those situations where a I’d brace myself for disappointment. White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is the perfect song to drag me in. I just want a worthy story.

Can’t wait. The one and only movie I will have been to in 5 years.
I would have never pegged you for a Matrix fan for some reason. Definitely post your thoughts here or in the ‘Movie thread’. I’d have to go back and re-visit all three priors before seeing Resurrections. I do suspect this will be a huge end of year release for the film industry and a major boost for theaters that have been on the decline for while.

I think this version of White Rabbit is by Jefferson Airplane...

I agree with your statement though.. the song alone did it for me!!! I am in.

I'm cautiously optimistic, at best. But I'm looking forward to watching it on HBO; at worst, I lose two hours of my life.

So how did we get from a truce with the machines at the end of Revolutions, to these freed characters back in the Matrix? Some free wheeling conjecture:
  • It never happened, it was a joint adventure planned by the machines to give a group of humans some adventure, satisfaction. At the end of this they were all reprogrammed just like Cypher stating, I don’t want to remember nothing! This would raise some questions Imo.
  • Maybe Neo and Trinity are both manipulated AI and their adventure from the original trilogy was the equivalent of a vacation?
  • Is Neo the threat he was in the original series? I’ll vote yes.
  • If so, why would the machines keep him plugged in, why not destroy him?
  • Maybe the machines don’t realize there is a threat, the escape the Matrix fantasy was just another simulation.
  • How many Matrixes might there be?
  • The premise of the original trilogy is that there is a resistance of humans who have escaped living in the real world. What if there is no resistance, ie humans who have escaped the power generation fields?
  • Could this be awakening from within the Matrix with no external reality that humans would want to live in, such as a hole in the ground?
  • The irony there, would be that the humans would be completely dependent on the machines for their existence. How much could you rock the Matrix boat If in reality you had no where else to go?
  • Less likely: The original trilogy happened but the characters decided that life sucks on a destroyed Earth, so why not live the illusion of the Matrix? The problem here is that I doubt Neo and Trinity would volunteer to forget about each other. Yet if you remember the past, how satisfied would you be living in a simulation? Maybe satisfied enough. ?

Ok I saw Matrix Resurrections 4, (HBOmax), glad I did not see this in the theater, in a word nostalgic, but disappointed.
I like that they coherently explained how we got to the beginning of this movie, I was most intrigued with the setup, Neo and Trinity living “normal” lives in close proximity to each other (seen in the trailer and also explained) but too many repeat visuals, and the plot, I guess it is ok as a bridge story, but once the story got back to the real World, a lot of the luster dimmed, turning into a been there, watched this already. ? Maybe for Matrix 5, they can come up with a better plot. :)

It will be streaming on HBO Max the day of release. You can find various prices for the service based on what you sign up for etc. I have seen it for Free with a smart phone purchase, to $9.99 and $14.99.

I get HBO Max gratis 'complementary' with my ATT fiber service.

How fast and how much is your ATT fiber?

1Gbps symmetrical (effectively ~940Gbps up/down, after overhead); USD100/mo (no-contract; no data caps)

Idea for a prequel: The Matrix - INsurrections... Plus food for thought.

Facebook has always been more ‘The Matrix’ than FB users realize - neatly racked, stacked, algorithmically categorized and manipulated according to their profiles, preferring their virtual identity over their 'real ones'.

It you haven’t seen it already, don’t waste your time. It is a terrible movie. It gets worse the longer you watch. Save yourself.
I haven’t watched it. But that’s really disappointing to hear, as I wanted to revisit the very first three films. What didn’t you like about it? [Obviously discluding spoilers.]

The biggest flaw of the movie is the storyline which is very weak and disjointed. It looks like several writers each wrote their own story without colluding with the other writers, with each script being approved and thrown into the movie.

With the aforementioned being what it is, it also caused the character development to be anemic. As such, I wasn't given the chance to really care about any of the characters including Neo and Trinity,

The actions scenes did not help the movie or draw me into the story or the characters. Most of them were not well-done and it clearly shows. And with the weak storyline, the action sequences appeared to be overlays implemented more as a distraction and coverup for the storyline than being a integral part of the story.

I kept watching thinking and hoping the movie would get better if I gave it a little more time and all I ended up doing was wasting my time with this cash grab of a movie.

Compared to the first movie, I give it an F.

Bummers.

In other Keanu Reeves news, ‘John Wick’- Chapter 4, has now been delayed to May 2023. (It was slated for May 2022 originally.)

Over reliance on pieces, key moments and visuals from the original trilogy, in several cases plucked directly intertwined with a new plot to rescue Neo and Trinity
who have been inserted back into the Matrix.
I suppose this is to make the viewer feel warm and fuzzy inside, but they kind of over did it imo.

SPOILER TERRITORY
The start of the original matrix with the same dialog, but new actors, and two new comers observing with the question asked, why are they running old code? I’d have to watch this again. So why were they?

I’d not have an issue with this, it was kind of intriguing if it had lead somewhere plot related, in the guise of locating Neo, but this should be the resistance somehow running their own code in their own computers, not the Matrix running old code just to offer the audience a trip down memory lane. Oh, there is some lead they glean but I’d need to watch it again. :)

i asked some questions a while back, here are some answers if you don’t care about spoilers:

  • It never happened, it was a joint adventure planned by the machines to give a group of humans some adventure, satisfaction. At the end of this they were all reprogrammed just like Cypher stating, I don’t want to remember nothing! This would raise some questions Imo.
It did happen! Neo and Trinity died, and were rebuilt as flesh and blood replicas of themself, then reinserted into the Matrix.
  • Maybe Neo and Trinity are both manipulated AI and their adventure from the original trilogy was the equivalent of a vacation?
    Answer: No.
  • Is Neo the threat he was in the original series? I’ll vote yes.
Answer: Yes, but a poorly articulated threat in this entry.
  • If so, why would the machines keep him plugged in, why not destroy him?
The Architect wanted both Neo and Trinity in close proximity to one another in the Matrix, with the inexplicable reason that “conflict” ups power generation from their human batteries, yet Neo and Trinity are spending their time living pedestrian lives close to one another but zero conflict on their part until the resistance shows up. Maybe the Architect was planning on this to increase power levels, and thought he could handle the situation?
  • Maybe the machines don’t realize there is a threat, the escape the Matrix fantasy was just another simulation.
    Answer: No.
  • How many Matrixes might there be? Not addressed.
  • The premise of the original trilogy is that there is a resistance of humans who have escaped living in the real world. What if there is no resistance, ie humans who have escaped the power generation fields?
There is a resistance, there is another underground city.
  • Less likely: The original trilogy happened but the characters decided that life sucks on a destroyed Earth, so why not volunteer to live the illusion of the Matrix? The problem here is that I doubt Neo and Trinity would volunteer to forget about each other. Yet if you remember the past, how satisfied would you be living in a simulation? Maybe satisfied enough. ?
The answer is No, they did not volunteer to forget their lives and be reinserted into the Matrix.
