I don’t know if it is the reason why the port was put on the bottom originally, but I can think of one reason why Apple didn’t decide to put the port on the front in this new mouse. Have you looked at the front edge of that mouse? It’s very thin. The front edge that the mouse is only a few millimeters above the desk surface. Also the optical sensors are very near that edge. I think, if Apple were to reengineer it to allow for a front port, they would have had to completely redesign the mouse and they clearly didn’t want to do that at this time. Even if they were to use one of the other sides, it wouldn’t work. The back also doesn’t have room, and the sides are where your fingers grip the mouse and a port there wouldn’t feel good. I think they took at look at it and decide the belly of the beast was the best place for now.

maybe theyll do the same with the next iphone!

hell if the camera bump gets bigger the port can slide up under it!

Yes, that means the Magic Mouse's charging port is still located on the bottom of the mouse, despite the switch from Lightning to USB-C.
STOP WHINING ABOUT THE MAGIC MOUSE'S PORT!!!!!! 😡

They did this since Magic Mouse's battery is flat LiPo based, and there is no way to really disapppate heat, there is risk of overheating if used while charging.

This is why it's at the bottom.

It appears that Apple have made a bad situation worse. So they kept the charging port in the same place - notwithstanding what others have said about heat dissipation during charging etc - something which I personally don't buy - they also seem to have removed the battery low warnings. They were very last minute on the previous model of mouse and keyboard, giving usually only an hour or two of warning of loss of use. But now they're non-existent. Unless I have both a faulty mouse and keyboard, or there is a setting somewhere (someone please correct me), neither seem to give any warning that they're low. They just stop working. At least the keyboard can be used whilst recharging. But the mouse, alas....

Where did you get that from?

As a former electronics engineer, this is absolute rubbish. Total and utter unadulterated rubbish.

It's a tiny little 7W/h battery. It'll be fine up to 60oC and it won't get anywhere near that on charge anyway. If it did there's a BMS on there which will shut it down.

The reason it's like that is because of an aesthetic choice. A very very poor one. Actually the whole product is seriously badly designed. That's what we are whining about.

When charging the mouse for 2 mins give it over 9 hours of battery life - what issue is there?
