No I did not say "the excited about getting a watch" is the issue. The post is predicated on the assumption that a few people on this forum are both angry and devastated that they have to wait for their watch. Trying to point out that in the scheme of things the watch is trivial.

I think "devastated" is a bit much; you're reading too much into these posts. But this is an explicitly tech-related forum, so people come here to express their feelings about this new bit of tech that we're all excited about. You can't make statements about the moral compass of individuals when you only see them in this forum. It's not representative of the person as a whole.

Reading this forum and seeing all the complaints is really
disturbing.
People up in arms at the possibility they may have to wait for their watch longer
than they would like.
Don't get me wrong I get excited with new product releases as much as the next Apple fan boy.
I however do not loose perspective! This is just another gadget.
Its sad when so many in this world don't know when they will get their next meal , or are suffering with illness and all some of you can think about is the tragedy of waiting for your watch. Some one posted what should we do while we wait for our watches. start by trying to contribute something to others.

It's like this with every product launch, and not just Apple. I've been a part of three Nexus launches and they were all the same way. What's just as annoying during these launches are the folks who feel the need to create new threads proclaiming how above it all they are and how they don't "loose" perspective.

I felt bad so I cancelled my order

Indeed. I am far more alarmed by the inability of so many educated people to properly spell the word "lose". That is a threat to humanity, not unbridled materialism. Spelling matters.

OP, you can use that argument and apply it to any and every problem. With that logic, none of us should ever be able complain about anything because there's always something worse going on in the world, somewhere.

For example:
"Its sad when so many in this world don't know when they will get their next meal , or are suffering with illness and all you can think about are people complaining on an Apple forum and how annoying they are. You could be using the time you spent creating this thread to do something for others."

This can be said about anything, really. Should I feel guilty about having dinner to eat because someone, somewhere may not have anything to eat at all? No. Should you feel guilty about using electricity to power the computer you used to type your thread while some people in the world don't have power at all?

Everyone understands there are world problems and things larger and more important than the gadgets we all love. But the fact is, we're excited about this new gadget. We live in the first world and yes we may be more fortunate than many, but like others have said, you don't know anything about the people on this forum or what charitable efforts we're apart of.

whoops I made a typo, I am glad you are here to point it out!!
You are right tapping the "o" key twice by accident really does matter compared to unbridled materialism!

I don't work for the treats, I work because at my job I am helping other people.
Everybody deserves to make money and enjoy things in life. That doesn't mean people need to be obnoxious (not specifically talking about you).
So many of these post remind of the kid at the toy store a few weeks before Christmas and throws a temper tantrum because mom says he will have to wait until he gets his desired unnecessary toy a few extra days.
Wrong place and wrong time for soap box.
This is Apple watch time.
If some of the comments bother you, you need tougher skin or stay out the watch forums.

You have to see the context all this discussion takes place in: a forum devoted to talking about a specific gadget. All emotional statements should be seen in that context, so for example when people say something is "outrageous" or "horrible" it's not outrageous or horrible like say a concentration camp, but just within the realm of gadget purchases and usage.

We all get there are far worse things out there, and that we are a privileged group to even be able to have this discussion. I think (almost) everyone here understands the scope of speech when various descriptions/invectives/complaints are aired. It would be tedious to constantly qualify every statement with "I know it's just a gadget...."

Just because the perspective goes unstated doesn't mean it's not there.
Beautifully stated. So just ditto me on this right here.

Look there's some serious stuff going on in my family right now. The big C just struck one of us again. And I read a news item about what some poor child suffered at the hands of ISIS thugs that makes me want to dash my head in with a rock. So I never have to know such inhumanity keeps happening to yet another generation after my own mom and her family survived and witnessed the same in their era of war and refugee life and after my dad fought in a war hoping against hope that it would be the last of its kind. This forum and Apple Watch helps balance out that serious stuff so I can cope in a mentally healthy way. Don't poop on it!

Edit to add, but having said all that, OP, I understand you're coming from a good place in your heart with your post and I understand you're trying to help interject some perspective. Keep on doing the good you do. But please understand we aren't the shallow idiots you're paint us as.

It's not a real order?
How so?

Because you're not getting it until like August and it doesn't charge until it ships.

So grats on making an order just so you could take a screenshot of it and act like a big man cause you're cool enough to cancel an apple watch order.

I would like to apologize to everyone for this post and my assumptions and accusations of a sense of entitlement or to rain on the parade, you can now go back to clicking your refresh page on your order status page.

Who says the watch is trivial? I'll be one of the first to criticize Apple as far as I can see, while admitting my fanboyisms. I have trouble explaining at times why I want an Apple Watch. But I want one. And, frankly, I'd like it to arrive on time. If it doesn't that's an annoyance.

Now, while I haven't vented about it, because in my opinion "Apple Failed" regarding the launch-as news articles will claim (Whether or not they failed genuinely remains to be seen: The product might be a huge success). So, this is an annoyance. Maybe more of an annoyance if you have millions invested in the company in terms of stock, that they can't get a growth project right. Or you know what? Maybe how much it matters to someone doesn't really matter. Animals get really excited, for instance, over food, or pieces of string. Do you question their morality?

No. Because they're animals.

Humans are very similar. We have things we like and want, and we get annoyed. In the grand scheme of things, no, getting a watch isn't nearly the same thing as not being able to afford a watch. But nonetheless, I can afford my watch and I want it now. I don't want to wait any longer than I have to. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm fully aware of problems in this world. They depress me. I have a job that I work hard at. I feel like I deserve my money. I'm not in a warzone, and I'm not hustling around the streets of Cairo trying to scrounge up enough money to eat. I'm lucky.

That said, I'm lucky and I still have wants. And my needs might be asinine and pampered. So let them fall on the deaf ears of the unlucky who have real problems. That doesn't make my annoyance any less real, and it definitely doesn't make my annoyance your concern.

And if you don't like people on an Apple Messageboard complaining about their disappointment and you want them to have "Real problems" instead of "fake ones" go to a message board where you can discuss real issues of morality. My morality, however, is fine by me. I'm not stealing, I'm not dishonest, and frankly, if I'm not harming anyone directly, and you can't show how wanting something is harming anyone indirectly, it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Your résumé went straight into the trash. Learn to play the game.

A lot of us have a different ego on this forum than in real life. Also, first world problems are still problems.

So the help I already do for the less fortunate isn't enough because I still have time to come onto a Mac Forum and discuss my excitement over the watch? :roll eyes:

Got it. I will now schedule 100% of my time to helping others. I won't get burned out and do long term damage to the help I do give them by doing this. Got it. Balls to the wall.

His point has merit. No one needs to pitch a fit because their watch doesn't arrive on Friday. However, the common misspelling of the word "lose" is a world wide pandemic that could dispatch humankind from the planet.

You are correct that the item doesn't charge until shipped.

Not sure where you are getting August.

Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the forum.

Yes, forget about the people complaining on waiting longer for something they paid for. Instead, lets listen to how amazing and so much better you are! Yes, this is totally better.

You know, you could just help people and not brag about it. Unless the bragging part is how you justify it.

Seem overly sensitive?

Nobody paid for the Apple watch!! Apple does not charge for the item until they ship it.

I agree that it is silly to get so upset over a delayed watch, but again, we're on an Apple forum. People are going to complain, praise, and comment on Apple-related things. That's what this forum is for.

Also, no one needs to pitch a fit over someone pitching a fit. He's just as guilty.
