The most non-iWeb site looking

I was in the middle of learning GoLive when iWeb came out. I must admit, I put the books down as fast as possible and got on iWeb. Let me know what you think!

Gabrielnaylor,
New to the Mac stuff here. I have been maintaining websites via FrontPage (Window) - Got the Mac to experiment with such tools as iWeb.
I love what you have done - very talented and skilled and tasteful.
I wish to ask you: OK, you use iWeb to produce this (I repeat, I am brand new to Mac - just received MBP 3 weeks ago!) to put it all together and publish. WHAT DO YOU USE to create all the graphics, boxes, complex scripts/fonts, shadows and other effects, etc...
I'll appreciate your input! And any recommendation. I do have Dreamweaver on board, but I am DYING to try more flexible and off the cuff web tools!

The most non-iWeb site looking competition!

I know this thread was started in 2005, but i just got iweb last week... and here is the website i created with iweb and photoshop.

www.valleyphoto.net

Very nice, valleyphoto. Nice background texture & colors. The site makes one "pay attention" to what's offered.
BTW, since I am new to the whole Mac thing - and cannot quite yet spring for Photoshop (I come from Win environment, and have been using Core suite and Photoshop Elements). Any advice re: a decent vector drawing program (a la Coreldraw) and something good, but not so expensive as Mac Photoshop? I want to experiment with my new MBP before making all kinds of purchases!
I have downloaded GIMP, found it very good indeed!
Thanks for any input!

Hey guys, I just realized looking trough some sites created in i-Web and realized how most of them are look-alike and that I'm getting fed up with the i-web look of webpages allround!

So here's the competition:
Post links of website made in iWeb not looking like they're made in iWeb. The best one wins a great applause from me....;)

So for me to start here's my contribution:
www.martin_somora.szm.sk {I know it looks like it was made in iWeb!:( }

Hey,

What is an iweb site?

Well, to be honest... I create all of my illustrations on a copy of Adobe Photoshop for WindowsXP... then move them into iweb and create my website. Also... you can probably find some .exe files on different forums that will allow you to download the photoshop trial version and bypass the code for verification. I have several friends that do that. Fortunately for me... mine is free at work. I just got an imac like two weeks ago and this was my very first website outside of myspace. I also use istockphoto.com for most of my artwork. There is no need to draw anything anymore. Vector images can be bought for about a buck. So I buy a few images and collage them together with photoshop and a little creative writing. works pretty good. One more thing... if you have a friend that purchased photoshop... the Adobe liscense is for 2 users/installations. Ask if you can borrow it... that is also a legal way of doing it...

Thanks for the kudos...

The stuff you guys are creating is astounding. Simply gorgeous. Every site on this thread.

I just don't get it, though. I guess I need to dig deeper into iWeb. I'd like to know more about your workflow.

Do you start with a template then replace the graphics? And how come some of you have real text in your pages, and some of you have the (more iWeb common) images as text? Obviously the latter isn't very search engine friendly, so it's not something I could use.

Any tip sites or tutorials out there that go beyond simply creating sites from templates?

Hey whats up heavy doody... as far as I know... to create a website in iweb, you must start as a template. What I did for mine was start with a blank page on the black style. I select everything on the page and then delete. All of my pages are pre-created in adobe photoshop. The reason I do this is because it allows for more creative control. Also because i know absolutely nothing about HTML FLASH or any kind of web code. You can go to my website and right click where my text is and you will see that the entire page is a jpeg. I also create my links in adobe photoshop... and transfer them as transparent .gif files. The gallery I made is just jpegs resized in iweb with links attached to them. I am still researching how to incorporate simple viewer for a more professional look. Some people have already done it... so it is possible. So for me... the best way to create a non-template website is to just create your own template in photoshop or another illustration software. If you have any other questions or ideas I'd love to hear them... just let me know. Hope this helps.

I like this, without looking at the code I would not have said iweb

Well, here's my 2 cents (and website)

Since I've posted a few tales of iWeb woe, I thought I might as well join in the fun and link to the final (?) product. The "contest" may be closed, but what the heck:

Here's my site:

http://www.claudiajulian.com

I'm still looking for a way to change/disguise the slideshow icon.

Cheers,
Claudia

Well, mine looks a lot like iWeb but I did tewak some things... tell me what you think:

adamfishercox.com
I very much like the Graphics page :D as the rest looks nice but I'd say not iWebish but just pleasant on the eyes.

Well here is mine…simple just to show my art off and really not much more as I'm working on a new design ;)

www.artjesterszone.com

Lot's of feedback welcome as building a site is somewhat away from my major, Fine Art (at least I think so). Can anyone else comment about the text used. It looks different on my iMac then on my girlfriends iBook and I'm not sure if it's me and the screen or my eyes are going bad
Thanks…

an iWeb work still in progress, but...

This was created entirely in iWeb, but I'm optimizing the speed by changing the html in GoLive. Mainly, I've made each page point to one central "main.css" instead of a separate css file for each page. Also, I've pointed each page to a single set of images for page and main table backgrounds instead of background images that are in each page's "Files" folder, which means that the background images get cached in the browser's memory and load faster from then on. Those two changes speed up page load time incredibly!

It's a college-age campus ministry at a local church that I just did the logo for.

Flash question

Ok I just re-did mine! it has flash pages in there now which i used a program called iphoto export, as i know nothing about flash or html coding!

I am beginning a new iWeb project.. How do I get a tidbit of flash to work? Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Not going to win any award, but I just threw it together in a few days. Other than the picture with the reflection beneath, it doesn't look very iWeb-ish at all.

http://www.massengale.co.uk/

I'll work on getting the design to be halfway decent when I have the time, but at least I got the content up quickly with iWeb.

My Site

but I am in the process of completely rebuilding the site as I have become bored with it and think that it lacks professionalism. Comments welcome

Using iWeb for a non-iWeb looking site.

I've created a couple of sites using iWeb with the goal of making it not so iWeb looking. More of a personal look to them. Check them out and if you have any questions let me know.
