the harbour pics site doesn't fit on my screen! How wide have you set the page dimensions? it looks like it's about 1200px wide? Thats more than most people have their browser set to so they'll have to resize it which is a bit annoying imo

With all due respect....harbour pics??? not my site.

Actually, the page is 768x1024 cuz I was trying to keep it on the small size, to avoid making people resize, so no sure why it appears so big for you.
(I've downsized it a bit already anyway - thanks for the suggestion.)
Was wondering if anyone has used the 'insert html' part of iweb for anything interesting?
I wanted some 'movement' on the homepage and the only way I could it was with quicktime which gets to be a big file...

sorry you're not into it lolevy - not everyone is into clowning either. :)
but its spelled without the u.

anyone heard anything about iwebpro?

Hey, complete noob here at macrumours. First post.

Have a look at my website.

I know it does look iWeb(ish) but any ideas on how to make it unlike iWeb will be taken on board! I have iWeb 1. So not easy to HTML snippet! :-(

Anyways,

let me know what you guys think...

Non-iWeb website

Hey y'all,

This is a site that I built for one of my clients. They wanted to use iWeb so that they could maintain the site themselves.

I think it turned out pretty good and looks nothing like iWeb. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

How did you get the different roll over navigation colours, and also the bar itself?? Great site! like it alot.

Nav Colors and Top Header

Yeah. Great looking site!
Really nice tab-bar, and buttons.
How did you do those...???!

Thanks, I'm glad y'all liked the site.

The top header was designed in Photoshop. There is a background color (black) w/ an orange color wash for depth, then finally a texture overlay. All were created in Photoshop then inserted into iWeb.

The tabs themselves were all created in iWeb by using the shape tool with rounded corners. They are placed behind the "wooden" bar (also created in Photoshop) to give the impression that they are "cut off" at the bottom.

The roll-over colors are all applied to the text that is actually overlaying the "buttons". The text is turned into a hyperlink, then the hyperlink properties are adjusted to match my preferences. I alter all the colors using the RGB sliders in the color inspector.

My site needs Flash

I would really like to add some Flash elements to this site, but can't seem to get the HTML Snippet to work. I'm not hosting my site on my iDisk. Is this the problem?

html snippets?

Thanks Thinkavalon for the tips. From what I've seen on here I think yours is a great example of non-iwebby. I wouldn't think that not mobilemeing your site would affect the html snippets, but you're obviously ahead of me anyway. I posted a while ago seeking snippet info/help and didn't get any. Would be great to learn if you, or anyone else out there figures it out.
Thanks again. Great looking site!

p.s. thinkavalon

Can I ask if you did the other 'buttons' in photoshop? Or are those just 'shapes' in iweb?
Oh, and... why didn't you use the same 'rounded button tabs' on all of your pages? They seem much nicer than the rectangular ones...

I have flash that works well and is hosted on idisk. check out iwebfaq.org, Cédric has a few helpful files and codes that might help. Also I found that most times that flash did not work was that there was a little mistake in the path. (capital letter a dot, anything that is easily overlooked).

iWeb, not my cup of tea

A client once made me use Front Page, and while iWeb maybe Front Page on steroids, the iWeb WYSIWYG code brings back bad memories. I think I have PTSD.

Okay, maybe next week this new client will ask me to use iWeb and I'll like it. An easy three hundred dollars for two hours of "work". :D

Navigation rollover

Mitou, ive noticed on your site that you have to point the cursor high on the navigation button for it to be active. I had the same problem , once I rebuilt the navigation bar all worked fine, might be worth a try with one button for now.

Great loooking site.

OK, now you're convincing me that iWeb might be worth a try.

Edit: Having learnt a good bit of CSS and HTML, etc. the whole themes thing bothers me still. It's like the program is in denial about CSS, also from what I've read it creates a CSS file for every page, making things unnecessarily bloated - I can't see this being a good option for a streamlined website, but I suppose it makes the whole thing easier to edit for clients.

themes...

You can choose a 'theme' of 'Blank Page' and then build your own from there.
Pick Black or White (blank), and you can change the color.
Would love to see some examples of 'html snippets'.
You may be right about the 'bloating' but maybe it's not That noticeable speed-wise?
