Despite having serious coveting of the new MBP machines my coworkers are sporting, my Santa Rosa 2.4ghz 4GB RAM Snow Leopard machine continues to kick butt. I can't in good conscience spend $2k on another machine when this one is working just fine.

Are threads such as these pushing Apple to turn up the suck so we buy more often? I hope not.

I don't own a laptop.... Just an '07 iMac. I'm only impatiently waiting for a new MBP update because I'll need one later this year, and might as well get them while they are fresh!

The Santa Rosa chipset was excellent. it was the biggest leap in performance i had ever seen. I too, am on my white Santa Rosa mb with the x3100 integrated graphics. I have to say that they can definitely keep up with todays mbp's.

3100 geekbench

I've had a white Macbook Santa Rosa for over 2 years now, and it is awesome. Beats the pants off of any Windows based laptop I've used, including more expensive IBM/Lenovo-based Thinkpad products.

When the new product lines do come out, I'll take a look at them, but I surely don't suddenly need something new just for the heck of it.

Finally some sane person around here :p but I have to agree with you, the white Santa Rosa Macbook was really great. Served me really well for over a year. Then I found it's limitations and cured them with the 15" Macbook Pro. Couldn't have been any happier.

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge anyone for wanting something new. I love nothing more than a new computer!

I was really commenting on the people who were saying, screw Apple, I'm going to go by a Windows laptop (out of spite) because they didn't update their lineup, even though Apple never said they were going to update the lineup, nor are they even later than normal by any stretch.

I think everyone knows that Apple will integrate the new video and iX chip architecture into the new machines. Just give them some time!

 They've had 7 months. And it's not like they throw these things together at the last minute. They already have the configs worked out for at least 1-2 models when new ones are released. It's not like they are sitting around at the last minute saying "oh, crap. we need to update our Macbook line. What's out there?". They already know what's going into the next refresh since last fall.

Apple, you've got until March 1. If not, hello Sony Vaio F series.

Edit: I think the issue is the CPU and possible GPU change. Maybe they are working on making sure the chips work under their OS X. Updates to the hardware were fairly easy when you are using Core 2 Duo's for the last 3 years.

I think I might just cram an SSD in my macbook and push out an upgrade for another year. The only real shortcoming my laptop has atm is the GMA950, which is the worst graphics card I've ever had to deal with. My battery is still awesome. 2.5 to 3 hours on a charge. I'm still waiting to see if the new MBPs will be a big enough change to upgrade.

The way I see it, if you don't use the Macbook for the operating system, then you probably shouldn't be using a Mac at all. Lots of cheaper options if you don't mind not having iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, etc. Of course, if you don't use those programs, then you probably don't care, but again, that's my point.

And, if the Sony interests you, why wait, why impose some arbitrary deadline? The good thing about this is that everyone has a choice.

Because I like iPhoto and iMovie.

The type of OS days makes no difference to me. Both Windows 7 and OS X have proving to be stable and I've never crashed in either of them. I find Win 7 a faster OS though.

Not necessarily, just he has more control of his impulse buying skills, especially when it comes to beautiful new computers :D

Well I don't need a new MBP either but the only thing that is stopping getting a new one when the latest revs are out is the cash.

This is what Apple gets for making a product that doesn't break

windoze laptop computers have a lifespan of a around a year.

break more often = need to buy new one all the time = more profit for companies.

this post is a *joke* so don't piss yourselves please.

Unfortunately the truth may be the other way around. With all the Nvidia problems and other minor issues Apple laptops often last less than PC ones.

Personally I will wait until touch-screens are intregrated into the MBP line and SSD capacities are way up before I replace my model 4.1 MBP.

I have 4 GB RAM and 512 GB video ram so it should be some time before I actually *need* to upgrade.

You can wrap this thread around yourself like a big warm fuzzy blanket when the new ones come out. Snuggle, snuggle, snuggle :p
