The mystery of the diagnostic port

I wonder whether there is another reason for the port. It may be used for diagnostics now, however I wonder whether apple will use it with bands in the future. There could be sensors/ monitors built in to bands sending data to the watch?

Or maybe a band that has a battery in it?

That's my thinking too. That would be pretty cool. Or maybe a way for future developers to plug it right into the computer. It would seem to affect waterproofing, though, since it doesn't look like(?) there's an O-ring around it.

The black raised part in an oval around the dots (all of them, not individually) IS the O-Ring.

Im surprised no one has thought of this, but how would they get the Watch OS onto the watch if there was no connector at all.

ROM chips have the base OS pre-installed

I want to buy a band with gps and maybe some other sensors.

It could also be a lightening connector, minus the power and GND pins (assuming the casing could be used as GND).

Would be interesting to see if we can get anything from it.

How easy is it to remove?

Port cover was a difficult bit to remove in the ifixit teardown. They had to push is out from the inside. They did say they thought Apple might have a special tool for this, but they couldn't get it out themselves from the outside.

The idea of smart bands with battery and sensors seems quite credible. Who knows what other things Apple has up it's sleeve (pun intended, literally).

I don't know. Don't plan on trying to remove it. I have no need to mess about with it considering I just paid £600 for the watch
