lesson learned.. :(

don't do bareback

Go to the apple store Genius Bar and get the back replaced for less than most cases. $29

I use case on weekend. I need to play with kids or go traveling during those days. Naked phone only on weekdays.

You know, they could have just made the exterior surfaces a semi-rough matte texture. Maybe offer it as a third option aside from just shiny white or black. Ya know?

I'm glad I ordered from Sticker boy before they were forced to remove the logo cut out. This is as close to naked as you can get without risking scuffing the back. I also have the side covers in the same color as the middle of the back. It looks way better in day light

Funny this thread popped up.

I always have my iPhone 5 in a case as I'm scared to drop or even get a scratch on it. This past weekend I took my phone out of my case to clean it and thought, "Gees, this phone looks amazing and holding it naked just feels great." So I decided to carry it around without a case for a while so I could appreciate the phone for what it is.

Well, I was outside playing with my kids in the laneway and went to take my phone out of my pocket and it slipped right out of my hands and hit the interlock brick. Rolled over a couple of times too. It was chipped all over and the bezel got dented at the volume buttons and vibrate switch. I was absolutely DEVASTATED!! I couldn't believe it.:eek::eek:

After a trip to the Apple Store and many $$$$ later, I have a new iPhone. That was a very expensive lesson to learn. The new phone is back in its case where it belongs.

Just something to consider for those who like to carry their phone around naked. These things are beautiful to look at and hold, but are extremely fragile. I've always been careful with my phone and have never dropped it before, but it only takes 1 drop to ruin it. I wonder if my butter fingers was caused by the fact that I'm used to holding it with a case and not accustomed to holding it without one. I still can't believe what happened and keep kicking myself in the rear for letting something like this happen. We're all human I guess and things happen. It was just something I didn't need, that's all.

Phew, Had to get that off my chest.

People are just not careful I guess.

Also for those using their iPhone 5 naked, do you freely set it down on tables, desks, countertops without getting any damage on the back? I have a white iPhone 5 and carry it naked but always very cautious not to slide it around if I set it down on something. I always set it straight down and lift it straight up. I am just not sure as to the back durability if I were to be a little more lenient with where I set it down. So far so good.

for those who would like to keep the design of the phone visible and still have it protected, get a bumper. Don't have to worry about scratching the screen or the back when you set it down due to the raised lip. I also applied front and back protectors to prevent damage from handling (nails, keys, going in and out of the pocket constantly, falling on irregular surfaces, etc). I use Spigen's seeing as they have added shock absorption.

Like some people here, when I hold the phone naked I feel I could drop it any second, it looks so thin and fragile. And this is coming from someone who has dropped the phone(s) twice in 3 years of iPhone usage. But I'd rather not take the risk when it comes to a $700 device.

Meh. AppleCare+ adds peace of mind.

+1 on the bumper idea. I have front and back best skins ever skins and the Caze ThinEdge. It still looks good and has a good amount of protection. Now I don't expect if I drop the screen right on to a brick it will be protected, but at least the most likely scenarios are covered.

WOWOWOW how many times did you drop it for it to break like THAT?! I dropped my new iPhone 5 several times already :(

Should care more about your iPhone. Naked means it is not binded with the operators, you can use it with any sorts of operators systems!

i only dropped it once!!!!! from about waist height...and it had the Mophi case on!!!!!!

Hows everyone's naked ip5 holding up. Had mines since december last year. I have dropped it a few times accidentally. I have a few dings on the bottom left corner and on top right corner and near the charging port. However once you have your first ding it don't matter no more to me lol. Ip5 still works great and no damage on screen or anything.

The best solution is just to get a super thin case like the Caudabe Veil. I like to go with my phone naked or as close to naked as possible. The problem is that I like to throw around my electronics. The Caudabe solves this entire issue since now I don't have to worry about not mixing my iPhone with keys and coins in my pants. And I still have an iPhone that looks like it's naked.

i love to use my iphone naked.
when i had my iphone 4s, most of the times i would use it without cover, the phone feels so slim without the cover. the plastic covers just hide the beauty of the iphone.

Ha ha ha ha!!! That is EXACTLY what I did - Several times!

So then I finally learned to remind myself before getting out of the car and guess what? I STILL found my phone there sometimes! Yikes!

Not even bulldog drool? Heh heh...;)

i solved this problem by placing my phone on the side of my right leg (if you are driving on an american car). That way, it sits between my right leg and the side of my car seat, which was a raised edge. So when i get out, if i forget my phone is there, it just stays on my car seat.

I used to always keep my gadgets in cases, until I decided to take my iPod touch out of the case for awhile and realized how thin it really is. Since then it's been naked. It was thrown about 30 feet and slammed into a concrete wall, fell off the porch onto the driveway 5 feet below, and has been dropped more times that I can remember. It has a few scratches, but for the most part it's still in great condition.

IMO, a few scratches and dings just add charachter and personality to a device.

I did this for sometime with my 4s. Sometimes it would get nicks here and there but I felt it added a bit of character to the overall phone, and besides that it was to become my daughters iPod once I upgraded. Then well, a wasp landed on my hand and had been stung the day before by a wasp it scared the **** out of me and I flailed my hand, the phone fell 3 feet and shattered the front. Its useable, but I keep it in my old bulky otterbox for the time being. Not sure what is the best option to repair it just yet.

For now on at least I will use some kind of bumper at the least when I get the 5S.

I would LOVE to fo case-less, but I love my iPhone too much to let it bang around in my purse without a case. I've got all sorts of things in there and my phone would look beat up after a day. I just got one of the Caudabe Veil and it's worked fine so far. Gives just enough protection without ruining the look of the phone.

I've often thought about just doing a skin on my iPhone.

That's what i'm doing now, and i love it. I plan on getting a case that will fit over the skin just for the days where i think i'll need a little more protection. But day to day use, i love just using a skin

I've often thought about just doing a skin on my iPhone.

That's exactly what I did. I thought I could slap on a skin and be done with it. Problem is two-fold: 1) most skins (actually, all of the ones I've tried) don't cover the chamfered edges and that's one of the areas that needs to be covered the most and 2) the really good skins are impossibly hard to put on because the fit is so precise. You end up struggling with a thin, flimsy strip of adhesive that just never seems to fit on correctly. Pain in the arse.

That's why I just bought a Caudabe Veil on Amazon and haven't worried about skins since. The look is for all intents and purposes the same. Doesn't quite feel as nice as a good skin, but it's just as thin which is enough for me.
