Why did they have to name it the new iPad? Its driving me nuts when talking about it, searching for accessories, etc.
 
It is kind of funny. I say I have the new iPad. You mean iPad 3? No the new iPad. What?
 
Oh, good, we haven't had a topic on this in a good 24 hours.

It's not the "new iPad" it's just the new "iPad" just like next year, they'll release the new iPad, and the year after.
 
Technically, aren't the new ones designated by Apple as:

iPad3,1 (the WiFi version)
iPad3,2 (the AT&T version)
iPad3,3 (the Verizon version)

Hence, just call them all iPad3!

It's not, it's just iPad. Just like the iPod is just the iPod, the iPod touch is just the iPod touch, the apple tv is the apple tv, the MacBook pro is the MacBook pro.....l and so on.

You add the generation after.... In this case, iPad 3rd generation, and move on.
 
I like the name. It's iconic. iPods are just named by generation. Same with Macs and Macbooks.

Even the iPad 2 is named iPad on its back and on the box.

NOO! Do not do this, even when every muscle, every fiber of your being tells you just to smile and nod when someone asks is that the iPad 3, you say NO STUPID! its the new iPad, the 3rd generation, whatever. But surrendering is how we wind up with a country full of idiots looking for iTOUCH's at the store. :mad:
 
Hmm. I stopped by my local Apple store today to buy the AC+ for my new iPad and the "genius" that had to inspect the device so he could sell me the service called it the iPad 3 several times...

From a practical standpoint, this is simply what people will call it.

And we WiLL correct them, every time! After all, it hurts us more than them!
 
Most online stores (Best Buy, etc) list accessories for the new iPad as iPad (3rd gen). Makes perfect sense to me. I'm glad they got rid of the suffixes at the end of iPad, and am looking forward to Apple doing the same with iPhone.
 
I have one and I still think it's pretentious bollocks. For the sake of clarity, particularly in future, iPad3 just makes more sense. Number fascists! :D

Apple realized as with the naming of their iMacs, MacBooks, etc...That you don't always have to give them a name other than the one that was given at it's initial launch. Makes total sense really, as I didn't buy my iPad because of the name, I bought it because of it's functionality. :cool:
 
Apple calls it iPad (3rd Generation). Put one in your shopping cart to see for yourself.
 
The funny thing is that the iPad 2 is also called just iPad on the back. Not iPad 2!
