I don’t think the iPad Pro feels like a content consumption device, because it lets you create content too (for example, Pixelmator Pro). I find myself using it a lot for visual creativity, and you can’t do the same work on a real Mac the same way you can on an iPad.

Apple seriously need to consider a two in one which the software experience transforms between tablet and laptop mode. Heck, they can do a three in one now you’ve seen the iPhone chip running on a mac.

As long as Apple doesn't implement things like Windows did with Windows 8.1. I had a Dell 2 in 1 years ago that came with W 8.1 and it was horrible in laptop mode and even worse in tablet mode.

I wish they -would- do it that way. I had a Dell 2-in-1 and Surface devices and Windows 8.1 was a great experience. Just their attempt at a modern app store sucked, and still does. But so does the Mac one. It still really seems better suited to mobile as a concept.

This is a very strange sentence to me. Of course a laptop with full desktop OS will do everything you need? It’s literally a step above an iPad in terms of functionality.

My point was, the IPad relies heavily with Apps and it’s the one thing the MacBook can’t compete with. Owning a MacBook made me realize although my IPad is almost out of storage because all the Apps I have installed I rarely use any of them, outside of TT, Facebook, instagram and YT. What I thought would be the biggest downside turned out to be a non issue.

I disagree with this. My iPad Pro M5 has a significantly better screen than the Neo. It also feels like a more personal device because you literally touch the content and can adjust it in bed or on the sofa ergonomically however you want it to. The convenience is the biggest reason for choosing the IPad over Neo. The 13 inch tandem OLED screen runs circles around the Neo screen. Frankly the iPad with a Magic Keyboard can do everything the Neo can anyway

My breakdown for my needs:

Main device:
Macbook Neo - it`s a laptop thus flexible to be taken everywhere. I travel by car? great i take the neo along for a study class.

Iphone 18 Pro Max:
Daily driver for banking, whatsapp, google maps, duolingo, making pictures.

I need to admit and say the ipad mini 6 performance starts to lack on me with only 4 GB of ram.
And the justification of a new mini 8 compared to a NEO is not there anymore.

The iPad Pro and Neo are nowhere near the same cost.

There were comparisons in this thread on both. Even if you were to compare iPad Air to the Neo, some of these points will still stand. To be honest I don’t understand the point of Neo over iPad. The Neo is advertised as being capable of basis spreadsheet, word, basic video editing and web browsing which the iPad can already do but also being more convenient at the same time.

Can you take handwritten notes on the MacBook Neo? Draw sketches, designs and illustrations? Create detailed digital artwork? Do anything at all which requires touchscreen and/or Apple Pencil usage? Is it a great device for reading books? I think it's pretty simple. If you want the best device for keyboard work, you want a MacBook. If you want the best device for everything else, you want an iPad. If you absolutely have to only choose one device, the iPad is the only device which can even attempt to do both.

Kind of off topic, but sort of on topic. Before I got last year's MBA. One person tried to convince me to get an iPad "because they're cheaper". (Not quality, the price.) I had a lap desk so what would have been the point of getting an iPad? The lap desk and possibly all the external parts I have would go to waste.

Am I the only person on Earth who uses an iPad primarily the way Steve Jobs originally presented it? Sitting on the sofa in your living room and holding the Internet in your hand, consuming it like a book (not to mention, reading actual books)?
No, you are not the only one using it that way. I also use it outside sitting on the porch. I occasionally take it into the field/forest to get a picture of an unknown plant so I can run the plant ID program. Then there is the Merlin bird call ID program.

Actual work requiring typing and such is done on the MBA on my actual lap (tables are too high for comfortable typing) or on the desktop Linux box. Each tool has a purpose.

I feel the same way. Since getting the NEO, I honestly haven’t used my Apple iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) with the Apple Magic Keyboard at all, and I’ve only picked up my Apple iPad mini (7th generation) a few times over the past month—mainly just to play The Sims FreePlay.

The NEO has kind of become my go-to device because it handles the everyday stuff so easily, and for basic productivity tasks it just feels more practical. I never expected it to replace my iPads as much as it has, but that’s exactly what happened.
I think for $300, an iPad is a nice tool for watching video. Otherwise, it’s a ripoff when buying Air or Pro as they have Mac chips but cannot run MacOS. Just let those who want to install MacOS on iPad Pro and it would be amazing. It doesn’t matter that it was build for touch first, with a $400 keyboard don’t have to touch the screen and have trackpad and keyboard. Makes a great Mac, but terrible iPad experience for the price. The Neo is better at almost everything except the display is not as good or if one wants to write notes or create. So I guess most of us just kept buying iPad Pros expecting Apple to make sense of it, but it doesn’t. Here’s to hoping new CEO has some more brains.

With Cook promoted to executive director, I don’t see the iPad being a MacBook replacement.

But you’re right the neo is better at everything the iPad does except drawing, portability and consumption. The neo certainly can’t check Facebook and
Email better than the iPad.

In my opinion, you are missing a very fundamental point. The fundamental point has 2 parts. The first part is buying the right tool for today's use. The second part is using the right tool for a specific point in time, whether it is 5 minutes or 5 days.

The fact that you now see the Neo as your one device salvation tells me that you had been using the wrong tool for the job, or you had the right tool but, were trying to use it primarily as a different tool, which does nothing more than cause resentment and frictional use.
I agree Apple_Robert. That logic, when applied to just about anything, can often reveal underlying truths and issues that would help solve so many of our current-day struggles.
