the new 11'" is a huge downgrade from 10.5 here's why

I went into Best Buy earlier today to have a look at the new iPad Pro. I picked up the new 11 inch in my hands and immediately noticed how light and cheap it feels. It just doesn't have the "premium" feel of it's predecessors. I walked away unimpressed with no desire to replace my 10.5" Pro.

Surprising to me. I feel like the new iPad’s have a very premium look and feel. I think it’s Apple’s best design. Anyway, to each their own, and the 10.5 is still a great product too. Save your money haha.

I haven’t seen the new iPad pros yet. I haven’t really decided if I’ll upgrade from my 10.5 inch pro yet but if I do it will be around Christmas or just after.

The look quite premium to me though and if the 11 inch is the same weight and size then I cant really see how there can be any down sides apart from loss of the headphone jack and Touch ID if you liked those.

The 11" is literally the same weight as the 10.5", so how could it feel lighter?

Agreed, when I went into the Apple Store I just thought 'WOW' as soon as I picked it up.
Very premium look and feel!

It was a little hard stepping back and not wanting it! Had to remind myself it was just 'a look' as I have no intention of replacing my 10.5 yet, and see no need to as the 10.5 is a great device.

Although I have mixed feelings about it being Apple's best design yet.... I think that's true in a way as the new 11 Pro looks amazing and feels so good.... but the design bit that lets it down is the cover options... Not really impressed at all with the Folio Keyboard from playing with it in the store (the pressing against keys when you have it folded back just doesn't feel very Apple!... or the Folio case... by the time you've put in in there the 'best design' is lost completely. Personally, I love the Smart Cover on the 10.5 - really don't know why they've excluded that option with the new ones... seems strange (and another reason why I'm so pleased that I'm keeping the 10.5).

That’s fair. I do really like the smart folio, but yea I wasn’t a fan of the keyboard case so skipped that. I love the straight edged industrial design though and use it bare when around the house. The fact that we have that much power in a fabless design that thin is incredible to me. Can’t wait until they start using ARM chips in laptops.

Thought the same! Thought it was going to be the size I would want as they keynote said they had reduced it, but still felt far too big as a portable device.... for a device at home it looked amazing, just not one to carry around.

For portability I think the 10.5/11 is the ideal form factor.

There seems to be a lot of “validation” posts going on.

If you think it’s not a worthy upgrade for your money so don’t buy it. You have the choice.

If you thing the previous 12.9 does the same thing as the new one so please do keep it and use it to your delight.

But please do let us owners of the new iPads who are loving this device enjoy it
