So who here is stoked on getting sim city on launch day, I for one am a I sucker for city sims.
I've been a huge SimCity fan, but after what I've read and the fact EA is trying to charge people 8 euros (or something) for simple add-ons I'm extremely reluctant to buy this game.

Looking at the city sizes Maxis should have called it SimVille.

I currently use a macbook retina, so I do not have access to a optical drive is that a dvd or a digital copy you are referring to.
From what I know the Mac version is download only.

Download, but you can buy either version. You get a CD key with both, which you enter in origin to download the Mac version.

You can now preload the Mac version.

Well if it stops getting errors.

So far they have failed on just the Mac preload.

Way to continue to show you are horrible at what you do EA.

I don't think it will be available via app store... i think you have to get it from origin just like you would a steam game.

It's only Origin.

And they pushed the preload now to the 27th.

----------

I see them pushing it off again.

I don't think they ever will with it being an online only game and it is fed through their Origin product.

It wont. EA only sell games through origin.

When they first announced the new SimCity, I was excited and couldn't wait but (and thankfully) with the delay of the OSX version I see they didn't produce anything worth spending my money on. The need for the app to dial home, the lack of features and the downloadable content that looks more like advertisements has definitely turned me off.

I played it in BootCamp a few months ago, and have 4 cities going. Then I stopped playing for the summer, just because I was tired of switching between OS X and Windows.

I still find it fun to play despite some the silly things EA is doing with it.

I tried to play it last week and it crashed upon trying to load the app and I didn't feel like fooling with it and rebooted back into OS X. I'm going to wait and download it to OS X later this week... maybe, and see how it goes there. My expectations are not very high, so I shouldn't be too disappointed if it doesn't work, or work well.

Same as sandboxgeneral, I got bored of switching back and forward. I bought a mac as I want to use the hardware/software, not to rely on Microsoft. I see the preload has now moved to tomorrow. People are questioning if it be live on 29th

I got tired of playing it through VM.

Looks like the preload is working now.

----------

Looks like they may actually release it when they said they would.

----------

Preloaded. Now the wait till tomorrow night at midnight. Let's hope they unlock it on time because that is when I get off work.

That's cool. Will download when I get in this afternoon ashen I finish work

Yep the preload is working, I preloaded mine today. But did any notice the launch date has been pushed back by a day from the 29 to the 30. Hopefully we get something other than vapourware this time, otherwise I am asking for a refund.

Mine still says Aug 29th at 12:01 PM. Little odd since I swear it used to be 12:01 AM.

Why even put 12:01 then. It's the same day just put Noon/12 not 12:01. Gaming companies only use the :01 for midnight releases.

On the upside the Mac version today is considerably better than the version which was slated to be released in June. I know people feel that they've been given a second rate experience to PC players but Maxis, by delaying the release, have saved you one hell of a headache.

There are a few purchase/billing/price related points which some have raised. If you purchased the game, and haven't played the PC version, you can contact EA Customer Services to get a refund for the difference (cancelling of original order and repurchase at new price).

Preloading is going fine here too.

Assuming the OSX version is stable and runs well then they did the right thing to delay it. The PC version could have done with 6 months more work and intensive play testing to avoid some of the complaints.

i have downloaded the preload which is great. noticed an issue with origin tho, if you try to open it again once you have it installed it for the first time nothing happens. so if i have opened it once, then i have to delete and re install. i guess cos i'm on OS X Mavericks

Don't suppose you'd be able to distinguish between whether nothing happened because the process remained open and wasn't closed by Origin? or because nothing simply happened? On Mountain Lion, attempt to open > Origin kills as an unreleased title > attempt to open again and Origin kills again.

Are you using the latest build of Mavericks too?

I'm on latest build. Nothing happened. Origin bounced in the dock then nothing. It told me I had an update for it, and now even if I delete and reinstall, nothing happens

Deleted the plist and working again, run it and tried to run again, now not working

Sorry, think I got at cross purposes with you there. This is just running Origin itself? and not attempting to launch SC while unreleased?

If you delete the .plist again and get into Origin: Does subscribing to BETA Versions (Restart Origin>Update Required) in Application Settings have any impact?
