I have 6 pages of Apps (I use 15 per screen to have room move stuff around. I have a few duplicates (several music players) and a half screen of games but I use most every app I have loaded at least once a week.

I have more when on a trip but keep them deactivated. With 1.5 pages of Apps, you sound like a casual user so the look might be more important. But if you are a power user, looks come after functionality.

And all of that said, I don't really have any apps with icons that would make me not want to use them. Some are better than others but it's what is under the skin that counts for me.

I'm definitely not a casual user. I just find that it makes life simpler to have only the apps that I use on a daily basis. It keeps my iPhone neat and clean and I don't have to scroll through pages of apps to find what I'm looking for. I don't play games much, so I only really *need* a few apps.

Basically what I need is:

A drawing app
An internet radio app
An IM app
An IRC app
A couple games
A remote desktop app. (this is a must!)
And a couple extras like Flixster, and Inquisitor

I try new apps all the time... then I keep it on there for a period of time and see how much I actually use it. If I find that I'm not using it ever (once or twice when I first got it)... then I'll just delete it. The good thing is... if I ever need it again, I can download it over the air... which is not a big deal for me. It's all a mater of taste... not a matter of how productive I am. I find that the built-in Apple apps let me do almost everything I want my iPhone to do. Then, 3.0 is going to be even better! Those are my thoughts.

But, yes... I am a design freak. It's gotta look good!

I think Apple is just trying to add more to the icons. Whether or not this is a good thing is to be seen, but I think they're a step backward.

I do agree that 99% of people won't care/notice.

Care to elaborate on your comment as it makes no sense to me (and I guess others as well)!!

What about it doesn't make sense? And where's the evidence other's don't understand? You're the only one that's commented so far.

You're the type who would bypass a great novel wrapped in a plain brown paper wrapper and opt for the drivel of a book that has Fabio artfully painted the embossed cover.

Books aren't the same. I expect high quality in design and function. Everything is considered before I purchase and use an app. That's why I hate it when an app has a nice icon and they ruin it in a new update. I refuse to update to the newest version of Jaadu VNC because the icon sucks more than ever now. It's more tolerable in the previous version.

So move it to page 2/3/4/5/etc of your Springboard. Problem solved.

Not problem solved. I don't want to hide it from view. I don't care about not upgrading it because the version I'm using works fine and I don't need the newest version. I'd rather have the older version with the more tolerable icon. The current icon hurts my eyes.

Break's over eh?? Knew you couldn't make it til June. :D

Yeah really! I for one was really hoping he was telling the truth.

Hopefully this will remove any confusion about how much the icons changed. I don't like how the iPod icon isn't aligned anymore. Also, for some reason, the new Messages icon moved horizontally for some reason.

Spaz, your getting out of hand here with all of the threads you start. Especially this one, when what? 2 weeks ago you posted this pointless thread : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/670687/ where you specifically say that you don't want to get in all of the hype that is 3.0 and that your more than happy with 2.2.1, yet you started 5 different threads on 3.0. Seriously, what is wrong with you?

And this couldn't be discussed in one of the many 3.0 threads that already existed because...?

Exactly. Spaz, again why don't you just have one thread and post all of your important information on you NOT talking about 3.0 in it?

The current icon hurts my eyes.

Your threads make my eyes hurt.

That just lame. You are sort of a weirdo dude. Do you choose which beer to drink by the label as well? Or do you only keep an expensive wine bottle on the table even if it sucks so people can se what your drinking?

If an app is good, i dont care what the icon looks like.

LMAO!! :D

And guys/gals, his name is TheSpaz so what do you expect? I mean it's not like his name is TheTolerator.

I don't drink beer. This thread is supposed to be about the changes from 3.0 beta 1 icons and 3.0 beta 2 icons. If everyone had the careless attitude that some of you have, the iPhone would be just another regular smartphone.

But why couldn't you post this in one of the many already available 3.0 beta threads? Do we really need a new thread for every new feature, every bug, every little change?

I support your anal, misguided attitude toward icons 100%. They give me a laugh. Carry on.

uggggh I hate to do this.
I've picked on Spaz a few times, I do think most of his threads are pretty pointless. However, it is obvious that it's becoming a trend here on MacRumors to pick on him. I'm really impressed by Spaz's thick skin as he is able to come back here and take all of this criticism. And no it's not just because of his silly threads, people were saying mean things about everything, they even got him to remove his avatar. It's pretty sickening to see everyone gang up on him.
Having said that he also raises some interesting issues. For one I didn't really care about the minor icon changes in the first beta, I am, however, relieved that Apple fixed the gross shading on the messages icon in this beta. I'm glad that Spaz was able to see that the iPod icon was brought out of alignment and he hopefully alerted Apple of the flaw.

I DO think it would be nice though if TheSpaz would make a single thread about the graphical or user interface issues that he finds on the iPhone. That way he would still be able to make complaints and no one here would have a reason to complain as they could just avoid the thread all together. ("They could just avoid the thread" the group says. hahah I love that movie...)

One thread would be nice.

The reason I pick on him is that it's so damn easy. :D

Also, some of his comments are so out there. Saying he won't upgrade a phone or use an application because the icon offends him is just ... funny, and not always in a ha ha manner.

My problem isn't with TheSpaz specifically. My problem is with new threads started about every little new feature, bug or change in 3.0.

Good idea!

Some more graphical bugs I found in beta 2 are as follows:

- The startup image for Contacts is wrong. It's using the old screenshot (not the updated search field).

- The combined buttons in Maps (and anywhere else they're used) are cut off short on the right side by one pixel or so.

- Typing in Safari's Google search: The auto-correct bubble's text sits too low inside the bubble g's and y's get cutt off.

- Keyboard letters that touch the side of the screen are missing drop shadows (on the pop-ups)

- When searching in Mail in Landscape, the sorting buttons don't line up properly. There's a 1 pixel gap between each button. It looks odd.

- From beta 1: Messages app was using the old startup screen. If you open it and watch the "new message" button, you can see it change size. I don't know if this was fixed in beta 2 or not. Also, from beta 1 of Messages: The text isn't centered vertically in the text field.

If anyone has more to add... feel free.

Did they ever fix the issue where when you hold your finger to make the magnifying glass pop up and it's too close to the top of the screen it gets cut off and you can't see it?

Aaaaand did they change the magnifying glass from the round one to the rectangular one for everything?

1. Unfortunately no...

2. And no.
