Don't worry i don't think you are a loser, you are just giving your opinion. As long as you are pleased i am happy.
Didn't specifically call you a loser. Just doubt people who complain about everything regularly online have much going on. If that's you, well....

You could be right, but it's definitely not me, don't have the time to complain about everything regularly online, wish i did. But i am quite passionate about Apple products and really want them to move on and improve products, not take a step backwards.

From my understanding iPad vs iPad Air 2

iPad Air 2
Screen: Anti-reflective coating, fully laminated display
size weight: smaller lighter
processor: Better Mutli-Threading, better GPU

iPad
Screen: Brighter
Processor: Better Single Threading

This is a great logistical move for apple, re-using many parts and with the following compromises, allows for the lower price. The iPad Air 2 seems to be the overall better machine. With the iPad Pro in play for upper end performance, this makes sense for a more budget minded build and helps the overall logistics/mass production.

For the iPad Mini, its a little more tricky since its the only one in its form factor, so there was nothing else to change to, however limiting it to only one memory size means one model, makes it cheaper to produce, the savings are also passed on but enable the price/earnings to remain constant, both consumers/device wins.

I would consider these moves as logistical enhancements and savings

passed on to the consumer.

With that said I hope to see new iPads soon! (Pro and Mini)

EDIT: FYI BTW the laminated screen is more difficult/expensive to produce this makes the new iPad cheaper to scale and manufacture. Also the casing size is the same as the pro, so although the inches are re-added, this puts it in line with the size of the 9.7in pro which means thats now on one production front, as opposed to 2 different body versions. This helps offset prices. Economies of scale, could help them also lower the price of the Pros or more likely than not, enable them to put the savings into something better.

Your understanding is wrong. Multithread and gpu is about the same ( when compared to a9 in iPhone 6s). I suspect the a9 in the new iPad will be clocked slightly higher than the 6s so should give the new iPad the edge in multithread and gpu.

After watching the specs on this new ipad I'm really, really disappointed. It's the ipad from 2013 which makes no sense other than they need to have a wider gap to the ipad pro. I'll go for a ipad air 2 still available.

Makes you wonder whats next.

The A9X over the A8X is a pretty big deal.

The new iPad has an A9, no X. A8X to A9 is an improvement, but a very mild one. In terms of future-proofing, I think screen quality is more important than the tiny difference between an A8X and an A9.

I haven't decided yet, but I think the best buy is the refurbished Air 2. I could even find a brand new one from an Apple reseller or other channels.
My only concern is that Apple could decide to remove Air 2 from the list of supported devices in future iOS releases sooner than the new iPad. Of course it is something we cannot know today, and I'm confident Air 2 will receive iOS updates until 2019 at least.

Despite most cynicism on this forum, Apple usually doesn't remove support for older hardware for no reason. Typically it is because the old hardware lacks something new OS needs for an important feature.

For example, it's very likely the newest iOS will not support i-devices with 32-bit SoCs. It's not that Apple hates the iPhone 5, it just wants the next iOS to be 64-bit only and not be burdened with the legacy support for 32-bit.

So I'm pretty confident that Apple will continue to support the iPad Air 2 for quite some time. Also it's worth noting that Apple has the best legacy support of any mobile OS at the moment.

I got burned on the iPad 3 w/Retina, released about this time of year, same sort of release heavier faster etc, only for it to be updated 6mths later, wonder if history is repeating itself? & as for the headphone jack, obviously courage was lacked!

Same. Though, I was more burned by the fact that the iPad 3 was NOT an update to the iPad 2 in any meaningful way. The iPad 4 brought that fact to light. I had waited a year from the iPad 2 in hopes of getting a better iPad AND Retina screen – that distinction belonged to the iPad 4.

Well, most people seem to be moaning so I'll offer a positive note. I've been using my iPad Mini 2 for quite a while now, but recently it had got slow, and had too little storage (16GB). The very day I planned to buy the Mini 4, turned out to be the day the announcement was made about the new iPad. I'm delighted. Not sure about the US, but where I live, in Europe, the new iPad will actually be lower in price than the older model I'd intended to get.

Sure, I can see that the iPad Pro is superior, but bear in mind that not everyone needs the bigger screen, the high-spec display and camera, the 4 speakers, and so on. For me, the iPad is all about everyday functionality, portability and consuming content -- something I can read my books on, listen to my podcasts and the radio, surf the web, use my productivity apps, and so on. The new iPad looks like just the thing. I'm very pleased indeed to get a new model at a cheaper price.

I would choose the iPad for the better CPU/GPU and bigger battery over the Air 2's laminate display.

I don't see why people are excited about the iPad's price, as if Apple is doing us a favor. It should be that price or a little lower. It's made from old parts. The A9 is a year and a half old and it's screen and size goes back to the iPad Air from 2013. So Apple is going to make great margins off of these due to the cheap parts costs.

We don't know the battery capacity of the new iPad yet. The iPad Air 2 battery capacity is actually a smidge larger than that of the iPad Pro 9.7, so don't assume the new iPad will certainly have a larger battery. We should know tomorrow when iFixIt does their ceremonial teardown.

The hardware's nothing to write home about anymore; they need to do more than blow up iphone ios and tailor ipad's os to be less restrictive and more productive

Who has these available now?

B&H Photo Online did have them. Then they sold out. I was informed they would receive additional stock with in a week after the new 9.7 iPad launches. Also, a very trusted and reliable retailer.

I just traded in my original iPad Air for a good price and buying two new iPads for my children. Perfect for them as they just argued over my iPad.

The target market isn't for the majority here and if I was buying for myself would defo be in for the Pro.

I see this iPad as a way to entice new people into Apple eco system plus those whom have older model keeping them.

The spec sheet from Apple says it's larger.

No. It's not a new size. It's the exact same size as the iPad Air 2 and 9.7 Pro, with the exception of a slightly added thickness to the casing.

Since you're quick to joust at the iPad, there was a comparison chart in the article that you clearly didn't reference.

its the same thing... and ipad is an ipad... no innovation on its capabilities

Yeah. If you mean that was on iPad Air 2 but removed from this iPad. That's why you're supposed to pay for the Pro model to get that now. They want to differentiate them I guess.

Hmm okay. But wouldn't the laminate and anti-reflective features be good to have? Without the laminate coating would the screen be more susceptible to breaking if dropped? Maybe I'm not understanding what those features do.

Laminate display is for picture quality not durability.

Laminate display refers to the glass and display being bonded together so there's no air gap.

Without it apparently the screen feels hollow when you touch it and also there is a space between the screen and display so the display isn't as "retina"

Oh okay. So the picture quality on the new iPad would be less than the previous version?? That doesn't seem right to me. But Apple has often made weird decisions like that.

So they released the Pro 9.7 which had incremental upgrades to the Air 2 and should have been the Air 3, but by adding "Pro" they jacked the price up $100 for base. Now a year later when everyone is used to it, they kill off the Air line and replace it with a "value" version that is a frankenstein of older models.

It's basically an original air selling $70 cheaper than it did when it was released almost four years ago. Sure it has a bit better of a processor, more storage and more RAM but the price of those components has dropped significantly in that time.

So I ordered a 32GB Air 2 from Best Buy for the $299 price.

Now I see 128GB Pro's are $100 off and $599. This is for my wife. Do I future proof and get the Pro or stick with the Air 2. She has an original Air and the screen is terrible. The Air 2 was a great iPad.

Decisions.

Apple seems a little confused right now. Ditch the Air, but the thickness doesn't provide us with let's say more battery life or other advantages. Why not keep it as thin then?.....
It seems the object was to get an entry level 9.7" model, and to get the price down to $329, they dropped the laminated screen making the unit thicker. The new, lower price point makes sense, imho.

They sold the iPad 2 for quite some time after the release of Air.

"The iPad Air will replace the current full-sized fourth-generation iPad, but Apple will continue to sell the iPad 2 at $399 for the 16 GB model."

Yes, but they often sell the old model for some time after just as a cheaper option and probably to clear out stock, and they don't really advertise it, as they have been doing with the iPhones and the 2015 rMBP. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, they didn't update the non-Air iPad at any point while the Air was being sold.
