Apple seems a little confused right now. Ditch the Air, but the thickness doesn't provide us with let's say more battery life or other advantages. Why not keep it as thin then?

Just because we don't want a thin MBP and we do want full functionality on these laptops doesn't mean they have to reverse the iPad?!?

Because if they do everything we end up in this very situation with a confusing product line and everyone complains....

So I ordered a 32GB Air 2 from Best Buy for the $299 price.

Now I see 128GB Pro's are $100 off and $599. This is for my wife. Do I future proof and get the Pro or stick with the Air 2. She has an original Air and the screen is terrible. The Air 2 was a great iPad.

Decisions.
Seems like a no-brainer to me. 32GB Air 2. (but then again, you characterize the Air 1's screen as "terrible" so I'm probably coming from a far different perspective than you)

There is no such thing as a "future-proof" device. The introduction of this new entry level iPad (that is essentially the same as the Air 2) is a clear indicator that the bar has NOT been raised and although the Air 2 was released 2.5 years ago it has as much life ahead of it as this new iPad.

Only Apple knows. But I guarantee it's NOT because they're "confused". Whether it is an inventory of parts, cost of manufacturing, etc. There are sound business purposes for doing that.

The people who appear to be confused are those who are having a difficult time understanding that this new iPad is somewhat of a throwback SE iPad (similar to the iPhone SE) and NOT a new generation forward.

Where are you getting that from? And who is "we"? You think that Apple produced this new iPad out of spite?!:rolleyes:

Great, another iPad with a gimped display. It will compete well with all the other inexpensive tablets on the market without gimped displays!

prefer the mini size. mini is easy to use when you are laying down on the couch on your side and using one hand to operate it

Agreed. We need a Mini pro. The current Mini has a poor display compared to the competition. Color is great but contrast sucks in low ambient light. I'd pay more for a Mini "Pro" but I guess Apple don't care about my money.

Ipad mini has onze of the nicest LCD displays. Of course truetone and dci would even improve it further. But your wishes (contrast) would only be possible with an oled ipad(mini) and that is not going to happen for a while. Iphone first.

I really think iPad mini is EOL, there won' t be a pro i am afraid. It is possible this will happen though:

A lower priced iPad mini in a (thicker) iPad mini 2 chassis, with an upgraded soc (a9?) and TouchID , no laminated screen, etc for $279, just like they did with the regular 9.7 inch ipad. So they'll basically have two kinds of iPads , the regular/SE line and a new pro line.

You could be right, but it's definitely not me, don't have the time to complain about everything regularly online, wish i did. But i am quite passionate about Apple products and really want them to move on and improve products, not take a step backwards.
Understandable criticism. Your right to have warranted complaints as well. I was very disappointed there was no Pro model since I wanted one for school. And I DONT like waiting

Wish I had the time to complain about things for attention on the webs that I have no clue about as well. It would make life easier, wouldn't it?

My Nexus 7 2013 has far superior contrast to the iPad Mini 4. The iPad Pros and iPhones have far superior contrast to the iPad Mini 4. Much of that is due to the lack of a photo-aligned LCD display on the Mini 4.

I don't understand why people have difficulty with this.

Choose screen size
Choose storage
Choose colour
Choose Wi-Fi/WiFi + 4G

Done.

Ordering a Subway is more complicated.
Right, that makes more sense than iPad, iPad 2, iPad Retina, iPad 4th gen, new iPad (?), iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad Air, iPad Pro. All seems quite clear still. Then try shuffling the list and trying to know which one is the latest and greatest.

They don't sell all of those though.

And most are past generations anyway. Every mature product line has past generations.

There's only three types of iPad - Mini, Regular, Pro. It's very simple.
