I don't think they're done with this stuff... I think they're gonna fix these kinds of things before the master is released. I tend to think those icons are placeholders for some new ones that are being worked on.

Then why are you complaining about it now?

Watching the keynote tonight... the new iPhone OS looks very slow to load apps. Also, what's the deal with the Voice Notes icon? It looks hideous! The Phone, and Messages icon look weird together now too. They look slapped together really quick. Even the Messages icon looks jagged around the empty bubble. They could have at least just knocked it out to just white like the Phone icon.

I hope we have the choice to delete the voice notes app... I don't see myself using it at all and I hate it's icon.

It would be cool if they put that inside the notes app :) MUCH much better.

Oh really? Come on. UI Design is just as important as function. I'll take design over function any day.

You, my friend, are a sad fellow. It's sad to see someone so concerned with the aesthetics of a product. Yes, the design is important, but having a well-designed product that doesn't function correctly is NOT GOOD.
But, possibly, if you complain about it some more, Apple will listen, and make all of their icons pleasing to your eyes.
Maybe you should email Steve Jobs.

You obviously don't understand Apple. Their products are usually very good looking and so are their icons. So to change from that looks bad. I'm sorry you don't feel that way, but to me... the iPhone is more than just some phone and I expect it to stay that way. They shouldn't just forget about aesthetics and say "Oh well, it works... isn't that good enough?". It's not good enough for *me*

I'm with Spaz. Part of the reason I enjoy Apple products are the aesthetics; it's clean and minimal. The other part is functionality. I think the bigger issue with the voice notes icon is that it does not fit into the 'iPhone style'.

If I wanted a lack of both, I'd get anything non-Apple.

The only real difference in the phone and sms app icons is that they added stripes to the background and SMS from the bubble. While it's not as nice as previous icons since the stripes are a tad distracting but they aren't as hateful as you make it seem.

Form typically follows function, at least at this stage in the development game. If you don't think Apple's going to put on their usual spit 'n polish to the UI (including the beloved icons) before 3.0 is released, you're crazy.

They didn't just remove SMS from the bubble. Don't be crazy.

So they changed the color of the bubble in addition to the other changes I noted. The new color is a little less harsh on the eyes so it's a welcome change.

When did Apple start caring about you? Never.
Apple only has to be good enough for people to buy their products. Most people (obviously not you) will buy the products even if they have "a few bad icons." You're in the minority, so Apple cares nothing about you.

you're still hung up on an icon? Jeezus.

Technically it's not just SMS anymore it's also MMS, therefore leaving SMS inside the icon would be incorrect and well apple is perfect so...:p
