What I still don't get of the rumored design is the need for the two glass windows on the back.

If the phone has the antennas in the band like the 4/4S there is no need to have windows for the signal. The 3G required a plastic back due to the internal antennas.

Also people that have used replacement aluminum back on the 4S say it does not attenuate signals.

No iPhone 5 should look totally different, and thinner then the 4. Anything else is disrespectful to its cousmers.

We long need a iPhone 4 long

There are far more than 2 antennae in an iPhone.

The iphone 4 had 3 antennas on the band and the 4S has 4. Also the 4S with the after market metal back works fine.

There are GPS and WiFi antennae behind the back glass on a 4s. Presumably they would need windows to transmit if the new back is metal. I have no idea how they resolve this when using a metal back on a 4s.

Another thought, if the unibody case is liquid metal, which is supposedly radio transparent, perhaps the plastic strips are only on prototype models until the finalized the liquid metal unibody chassis? Just some far fetched speculation.

I hope your speculation becomes true. I'm not a fan of the two tone back.

"Liquid Metal" is a combination of 3 or more metals and is not radio transparent. In fact, there's some speculation that because it IS conductive, it might be used for some time of antenna itself, but logically... not. It would be a poor antenna at best. I'd be happy if Apple proved me wrong, but I don't see it happening...

Best to give up the cool, liquid metal/terminator dreams. It's just not going to happen. For a back panel on a phone, there's no advantage over hardened, anodized aluminum.

Sorry but these types of responses are stupid. I'm not calling you stupid, simply your response. You're telling me if you put the 2 phones side by side you can't tell the difference? The two phones look nothing alike and response such as yours are simply flat out fabrications of fantasy.

I love the new, original desIgn and will be picking up a few.

How is it possible that you cannot see the striking similarities between the two devices and how is the response stupid? Of course you can tell the difference if put side by side as you would be able to tell that the new iPhone is a bit taller. Other than that they are too similar to say that the new iPhone is an original design. It is nothing more that an adaptation to the existing 4 and 4s. I think that it is your fantasy and wanting to believe that it is so different that you have in effect put on a pair of blinders to what is real. Get over it man, if you want to buy 1 or a hundred I don't care. I don't even care that you think this is such a revolutionary design or how much money you claim to have but calling out other people's comments as stupid on a rumor (opinion) forum is infantile.

Wouldn't it make more sense to try and match the color of the glass/plastic back pieces to the color of the unibody (not make these sections black or white)...

IMO, it looks awful. When the phone comes out, if that is indeed how it looks. I will be getting a case to cover that up.

Not going to argue about the design. I feel one way, you feel another. I would however like for you to show me where I called any one stupid because it just didn't happen.

No thank you.

This is your response on page 2:

I never said you called anyone stupid but you did refer to my response and another persons as stupid responses. Perhaps you should read your own posts or at least remember them???

Why completely abandon the iconic look of the iPhone 4? I mean, people still buy the iPhone 3GS.
Also, the move from iPhone 4/4S to iPhone 5 is more along the lines of the move from the MBP to the new Retina MBP. Slimmer and sleeker. I like it.

Agree. There really is no reason for them to do some drastic overhaul that looks nothing like the current iPhone. I wouldn't mind a slightly bigger than expected screen (4.3" would be nice) but after owning a one X for a little while I really don't think I ever want an iPhone that big.

just a few points on the design for people who dont know or care  -

If you look at the patent litigation case recently won, Apple released images of prototypes dating back to 2005 where Jonny Ive designed a phone called "Project Purple" (search for it )

This looked a lot like a Iphone 4 with a full metal back and flat metal sides. It seems clear to me that Jonny Ive's ultimate vision for the perfect phone is along the lines of a thin iPhone 4 with full metal back.

I think with the iPhone 4 was a progression towards right form factor for Apple, but couldnt make the meatal back work at the time. I belive the iPhone 5 will be a further step along the road towards this "design ideal" and i see no reason why apple would change from this path just to for the sake of changing. I mean if it isnt broken dont fix it.. improve upon it!

This would be too bland. I like iPhone in the leaked pictures better because the color kinda changes with different angles (brushed aluminum).

The multicolored metal/plastic look that's been circulating is a step backwards in terms of simplicity.

I wish they'd go with something not unlike the mockup above.

It ended up actually looking like this!!!!!! All black FTW!
