I assume sarcasm - but surely the pricing of the 5G iPod Touch shows that an iPad mini is considerably less likely, due to the pricing and the fact that the iPad 2 starts at $399.

Unless perhaps the iPad 2 gets discontinued, with the iPad mini taking its place as the low end iPad.

Let me ask you guys something. If the introduction of an iPad mini was imminent (like October), don't you think Tim Cook would have at the very end of the Keynote said something like "Oh, one more thing - come back next month for another big announcement"? With the Nexus 7 out and the new lineup of the Kindle Fire, there are a lot of people who have been waiting to buy a 7" type device that may go ahead and get one of them instead of waiting to see if Apple is actually going to release a mini. I know I'm in the category.

I've seen so many leaked pictures of the iPhone 5 before it was released. For e iPad Mini it's been one obviously fake picture.

I'd have thought if the iPad Mini rumours were as true as the iPhone 5 ones obviously were then we'd be seeing a similar amount of evidence.

most people that really like apple products aren't going to go snag a kindle fire or a nexus 7. IF they do, they will then sell for a loss when the iPad Mini comes out. Based on the iPod touch being $299.....i'd be surprised if the Mini comes out and if it does that it's even competitive price wise.

Not going to happen. $349 at the low end maybe. $399 much more likely.

How can they sell a gimped iPad 2 for the same price as the full-sized iPad 2?

It seems like @ $349 it will be eating into the new (horrendously ugly) iPod touch. And @ $399 if becomes unattractive vs. the full-sized iPad.

Not to mention that $349 is pricing themselves out of the 7" market. Even considering the Apple tax, $349 for a 7" non-retina tablet is absurd.

I think that the extremely expensive new iPods just killed the iPad mini.

iPad mini would esentially be an iPad 2. They will drop the iPad 2 line if they produce a mini.

...also there has been no definite confirmation or announcement of iPad mini. The WSJ and Bloomberg and everybody else just circulated rumors.

I cannot see another upcoming event for Apple "products." Can you?

Okay, lose the ' 7" '. All the rumors say this will basically be an 8" tablet. And if they do set it at around $399, chances are the iPad 2 will then be discontinued.

$399 for 32gb/LTE with other LTE versions above and below

And the comparable wifi versions $100 less

So right now the iPad 2 cost the same as the higher end iPod touch.

Apple isn't very concerned about overlapping product prices.

What people remember is the entry level pricing. Extra memory is just the cost of an add-on.

Entry level iPad 3 = $499

Entry level iPad 2 = $399

Entry level new Touch = $299

Entry Level old Touch = $199

Don't see any overlap.

And can you see the pattern? There is no room for iPad mini ;)

Don't forget Apple is still in talk with all the big cable companies. Apple still want AppleTV to be in every TV room in America. Steve Jobs had a big ambition for this device.

The October media could be used to announcing a big tie-up, and the iPad mini is simply a command center for your entertainment set. And AppleTV is your output device. They could announce some more airplay-capable speakers and TV sets at this event as well.

Imagine a full 5.1 surround system without any wire coming out of your receiver or set-top box. That is dead easy to setup.

I guess no one has brought this up so I'm gonna put this out there.

The iPad Mini could replace the iPad 2 in the product line. It makes the most sense really. And I really think it will have a retina display, the way Apple is moving they're not gonna push out a low-res product. I still think it could run $349-$399 maybe even start at $399 for a 32gb.

And please stop saying $199 people, not gonna happen.

If iPad mini gets its own media event, it's has to be a big announcement, something revolutionary. $399 iPad mini? Is that even worth announcing?

My bet still going for $199 with a cable contract, or additional $50 yearly contract which lock you into the iTunes store, and iCloud.

I think it'll be $279 - $299 based on what I saw after the iPhone announcement last week, I've mentioned it in a different thread:

"When the Apple site came back up after the iPhone 5 announcement, the UK store briefly showed the iPad costing from £239 in the main store page. The iPad is usually from £329.
Obviously it could've been a typo, I wish I'd got a screen shot. For comparison the UK store is pricing the new iPod touch at £249. If it was an unintentional leak then it the iPad mini will be cheaper than the iPod touch. If only I'd got that screenshot!!"

Nope.
