Well – yes and no. I mean I can't vouch for @jpietrzak8 but Tim & Co DO advertise iPad as "Super. Computer." and talked at length about how sad it is that some people have PCs at home when they could have an iPad.

Sad fact is that the top end 2012 Mac mini is still a superior machine to most 2016 models if you are happy to upgrade it, says a lot where apple is .
I dont mind apple pushing the iPad pro, but I refuse to pay laptop prices for a larger iPad. If its price was more reasonable it'd be okay, right now I can built a very good desktop for the price of the pro, and that is pushing me away
Am I crazy for seriously considering the mid-level 2014 Mac Mini at this point? Refurb for $719 Canadian.

I believe it will be here before 36.999876 months. If I use my 2012 Mac Mini to do some calculations, I believe I could come up with the exact date but it's way on the other side of my room and I don't want to walk over there.

When an iPad can do everything my Mac Mini can do, then you will be correct. Till then, I continue using a few MBPs and a Mac Mini.

Well, Apple was always about $$$.
(Most successful businesses are!) But in the past they got their $$$ by making complicated tech easy to use for non-tech types. (Mac made desktop computers simple, iPod made music players simple, iPhone made cell phones simple.) Today, they're more about locking consumers into the Apple ecosystem, and less about giving power to the people. Much, much less. I didn't buy my first Mac until 2007 when the first iPhone came out. I bought the iPhone around July 7th of that year and a week later, my first MBP. Both of those things were the most amazing devices I had ever used. Even now, my 2012 Mini, 2012 13" cMBP and my 2015 15" MBP are still pretty amazing.
It's just the junk I can't get over such as the watch and all those bands. Then there is the services like Apple Music iTunes Match that to me, still doesn't work correctly and I'll finally be cancelling Match in February.
Not sure what the next Mac holds for me if and when I will buy another one. Right now, I'm typing this on the 2012 cMBP and I still enjoy the hell out of using this machine. Why? Even with it's lower res screen, it's what the old Apple represented.
I'll hang in there to see what happens with the next Mini, if there is one.

It's almost certainly coming. However, the incremental value of successor Mini models of today in negligible compared to 10 years ago. Is there a big frontier still to come which requires more cpu/gpu processing power compared to 10 years ago? We seem to have plateaued that the marginal value of a new Mini V 2012 is /dev/null.
