Given the success of ARM I think it’s fair to say that, at least, Acorn bore fruitHistory has shown us that they were all lemons.
Even today we have the Raspberry Pi (and Banana Pi among other fruity derivatives)…Some of us are old enough to remember that soon after Apple appeared, so did computers called Orange, Apricot, Acorn, Tangerine, Peach and Olive(etti*).
Am well aware thanks, just pointing out the company is not & your response isn’t as funny.Without the Acorn Archimedes we wouldn’t have iPhones or Mx Macs nowadays. The Acorn RISC Machine is the basis for many of the nice devices we can buy from Apple today.
The M4 mini is most probably the last of its kind, can't see an Max/Ultra being added, next up M5, or is it M26?Wow. This thread slipped all the way to page four so does that mean the M4 Mini is the last of its kind?
MI-9 (The next Mission Impossible)The M4 mini is most probably the last of its kind, can't see an Max/Ultra being added, next up M5, or is it M26?
most probably?!?The M4 mini is most probably the last of its kind, can't see an Max/Ultra being added, next up M5, or is it M26?
Just a shame the m4 pro sku likely runs hot in the new case. The M4 mini is so good, it has dampened the urgency for the next new Mac mini, which is almost certainly coming.
Saving some money on licensing costs with the new WiFi chip is probably a must but we can’t complain as that means we might get an m5 mini rather than wait a couple years for an m6 mini.I'm guessing Wi-Fi 7 will make an appearance on andesigned chip before the end of the year.
The M4 Pro seems to run fine in my Mini. I'm doing game development and have a pair of 32" monitors connected. I have lots of software open at the same time and the fans have only been audible a few times. The only difference to my old Mac is I'm no longer running any Adobe software, but every piece of graphics software I have tried has been fine.Just a shame the m4 pro sku likely runs hot in the new case.
If someone today predicted that in another 12.5 years there will be a heavily updated, smaller, more capable Mac mini for roughly the same list price as today, they'd be laughed at, but that's what happened here.
Same here. My M4 Pro never gets hot. I might have heard the fan come on maybe once, while working in Parallels. The M4 Pro seems to run fine in my Mini. None of the "Apple leaks" made any reference to a new Mini.
I said in that thread that they might add a fingerprint sensor to the on/off button on the Mini.![]()
What to Expect From the Next Mac Mini
AppleInsider's Marko Zivkovic today said that he has discovered a device identifier for what is "almost certainly" a Mac mini with an M5...www.macrumors.com
That would not appeal to me! Location of the on/off is just about OK for occasional use but if I had to use it regularly, like I do with touch id on my MBP, it would drive me mad.I said in that thread that they might add a fingerprint sensor to the on/off button on the Mini.
If they keep the on/off button in the same place, I don't see how that would be useful. If its like my MBP, using it to authorize an admin action, having the button underneath like it is, would be horrible as I'd need to keep fidgeting to find it everytime I'm prompted for admin access.I said in that thread that they might add a fingerprint sensor to the on/off button on the Mini.
You are correct. Doing this would be one of the stupidest things Apple has ever done. Can you say, "light bar" ?If they keep the on/off button in the same place, I don't see how that would be useful.
