I tried resetting SMC which seemed to work for a while but the problem returned, and the tech guy reset the PRAM which didnt work either. Not sure how though. Thank god i still have 10 months warranty, but with premium products one expects premium performance.

I tried both now, didn't work god damnit. This is my first mac, so it's really a bummer. Bad first experience as you may put it.

Well hopefully they can replace it. Mine's a BTO model with Hi res and 7200 RPM which is very nice, but not possible to just exchange for a new one.

Be firm and polite and I'm sure they'll replace it.

Ye, your probably right, and thanks for your guys support!
Mine is a 2.4 ghz 15,4" computer with the standard 200 gb harddisc.

Anyways, all of you, thanks alot!

Well it's not that much of a bummer as you should now just call AppleCare and explain your problem to them and the will RMA your unit and send you a new one. You will only lose so much time.

It's much more annoying when this happens after 6 months and you really really can't live without your mac. :(

Haha.. Yeah youre right :D. Maybe im just overreacting! :D

Apple Care is picking up my computer in the next 48 hours :D.
When I give them the computer back, should I give them everything?the box, the cloth, the adapter, manual, discs everything right?

Yes I would say so..

Hey! I just fixed my fan problem by resetting the PRAM, hallelujah! I just hope it behaves itself in future.

Turn off your laptop, then hold

ctrl + command + p + r

turn laptop on while holding above combination (requires some dexterity)

i released keys once the desktop appears..try it out, hopefully it works for you too.

That is really a bummer.. I want to use my mac... :(

Open up activity monitor, select "all processes" click on CPU and see what's taking up processor % which causes the MBP to get hot and fans to go real fast.

Force quit that process.

right fan working? 0 rpm?

Are both of your fans running? I have a problem with my current first gen MacBook Pro 2ghz. My right fan runs at 0 RPM--yeah, it's either dead or there is a sensor issue or something. The left fan will run at 1k-1.5k rpm when I'm doing mundane things like surfin' the web, e-mail etc. However, If I start compiling some code, or fire up WoW, the fan kicks it up a notch to 6k rpm to keep things cool--It's basically doing double duty.

Maybe your machine is havin' a similiar problem.

As soon as my new 17" penryn comes in I'm gonna see how much it'll cost to get my older notebook fixed, then I'll sell it on ebay.

Anyway, good luck!

Its both of my fans that are running.. constantly 4000-6000 rpm. It really sux. And apple dk support, was not what I expected it to be. They now told me that they would send a label to put on a box, so I could send it in. So annoying, they told me they would pick the macbook pro in the next 48 hours in the phone...

Ohh damn.... Then its gonna take me ages from now. I didn't buy from an apple store. Business..

Your in the same boat as me, Genius bar suggested running diags and if I was not happy than to return it with in 14 days, also if you have an Apple store take it to them and go from there, does NOT matter where you bought it.

Running diags?
Does your computer do the same? What processor is taking cpu usage. With me it is the WindowServer process.
Did they say anything about reinstalling leopard or something?

No he did not say anything about reinstalling the OS, because I told him when I got it I did a full reinstall with out all the extra bloatware, "printer files, languages" I do not have the Window server process running. For me the fans did not get louder till after 30 minutes or so.

Okay thanks. Same here. If I have my computer shut down for lets say 10 minutes and start it again the fan speed will be 2000 rpm, then after a while the rpm will move to 4000-6000. Very weird error and very annoying! :(

My problem is back unfortunately. Still cruising up to 6000 RPM but only when connected to power..is this normal? Even happens when the machine is cool to the touch.

Same here, happens most often when adapter plugged in. My CPU is 34 Celsius, and I am pretty sure that I will send my computer to apple, so I can have a new.

The Apple store here has ordered new fans, logic board and DC in/out for testing on my MBP, I really hope they fix it..is driving me nuts! If it doesn't work I will demand a new MBP..or else!
Good luck with getting yours replaced, I would ideally like a new one but the Apple store here seems a bit slack.

Nice they have ordered new fans and logic board! Sorry to hear about them being slacky. I will return my macbook pro in the following week.
Hope you will figure yours out to.

Thanks bud. Please let me know what happens with your situation, particularly if you find out what was wrong so I can end this headache once and for all. Cheers.

I promised you, so here it goes. Apple have taken my macbook pro and they had it for 2 and a half week now. There going to send the mb pro tomorrow so im gonna have it about saturday or monday. The whole FAN issue was all because of the logicboard (motherboard), so I am not really satisfied with there service. It is 2 slow, at least here in denmark it is. But anyway, I am getting my MacBook Pro back, and I hope that there wont show more problems up later.

Enjoy, and thanks for all your support in this s h i t t y-time without a mac :D

My parts tok two weeks to arrive, and they replaced my 2.4 board with a 2.6, which is pretty cool. Although I lost alot of time trying to work around the problem. Good luck with yours!

I use a 2.4 SR MBP, and my fans idle at 2000rpm. This seems normal. The fans do hit close to 6000 when I am running a video intensive application.
